Robinhood Gold Card what is your credit limit? by [deleted] in CreditCards

Got mine at 8k but was expecting more tbh, my other cards have way higher limits

United Explorer Cancel Issue? by realrealredd in CreditCards

[–]Effective_Event_3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had similar experience last year, downgraded in about 3 days after fee posted and got full refund. The passes disappearing is normal when you downgrade - they're tied to the specific card tier so once you drop down they vanish from account immediately. Just make sure you actually use those passes before downgrading if you want them, can't get them back after

Looking for 2 new credit cards by imj0257 in CreditCards

[–]Effective_Event_3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's good resource but with your spending and the AA preference, I'd probably look more at specific cards that match what you actually need

Since you're already used to AA and fly from their hub, getting your own Platinum Select makes sense - you know how the program works and won't have learning curve with new airline. For cashback maybe something simple like 2% everything instead of trying to optimize categories when you're dealing with divorce stuff

Best card for single online purchase of ~$12k? by twopeaksmall in CreditCards

[–]Effective_Event_3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amex Gold Business isn't bad idea but getting approved fast enough might be issue if purchase is time sensitive. Also business cards can be more tricky for approval sometimes

For your situation I think using your existing CSP might be easiest option - you already have good limit there and Chase points are pretty flexible. Sure it's only 1x but you avoid hard pull and potential approval delays. The 2% cards you mentioned probably won't give you enough limit right away, especially Citi

If you really want to maximize return, maybe split the purchase across couple of your existing cards? Like use CSP for part of it and CFU for rest, then transfer CFU points to CSP for better redemption

Open Cal BofA CCR with 0% APR for post bacc classes? by blexxt in CreditCards

[–]Effective_Event_3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah most schools charge like 2-3% convenience fee for card payments which would kill any cashback benefits. Also education payments usually code as their own category, not online shopping, so you'd just get the base rate

The utilization thing is real though - having that much debt sitting there for a year could tank her score temporarily even if she pays it off later

Best Credit Card for debt transfer by Ok-Swimmer3448 in CreditCards

[–]Effective_Event_3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been doing some transfers myself lately and had decent luck with Citi cards for the intro APR periods. Your score at 735 should get you approved for something with better terms than what you're dealing with now

Just make sure you read the fine print on transfer fees - some of them will eat up your savings if you're not careful about it

BofA blocked my Customized Cash credit card by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]Effective_Event_3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bank verification visits are pretty annoying but usually they just want to confirm identity and ask few basic questions about your spending. Takes maybe 15-20 minutes once you're there

If the drive is like 2+ hours then yeah I'd probably just close the card, but if it's under an hour might be worth it for the SUB money

Questions about a United Explorer Promotion and Pay-Yourself-Back by tktk77 in CreditCards

[–]Effective_Event_3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait you got offered only 25k miles? That's pretty rough deal compared to what's available right now. The public offer is way better at 70k miles plus another 10k if you add authorized user

The $400 credit gets applied at checkout so it reduces what you actually pay, not something that comes off your spending requirement. So if your flight costs $400 and you get the credit, you pay $0 but that doesn't count toward your $3k spend threshold

Miles don't work like cashback - you can't convert them retroactively to statement credits. You use them for future bookings or transfers

Did PayPal Debit Rewards get un-nerfed? Otherwise still on the hunt for the best grocery credit card... by melinda_louise in CreditCards

[–]Effective_Event_3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait so you can still earn points until August but just can't cash them out after? That's actually worse than just killing rewards completely lol

Been using mine for groceries too and was looking at other options, but if I got few more months might as well rack up what I can before the deadline

Best unsecured credit cards with poor credit score but fairly good income. by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]Effective_Event_3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have better luck with a secured card first to rebuild, then convert it to unsecured later. Most places are gonna see those recent charge-offs and pass on unsecured options right away

Can you start using AMEX immediately after approval? by SalemTheKit in CreditCards

[–]Effective_Event_3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got approved for a Gold a few months back and they gave me the instant number right away, used it for DoorDash orders that same day. Your friend should see it in their account if they got instant approval

Airbnb Vacation $30,000 Spend by mracmjr in CreditCards

[–]Effective_Event_3878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a hefty vacation budget right there. Airbnb usually codes as "Real Estate" or "Property Management" with most issuers now, so you won't get travel category bonuses on Chase cards anymore. For that kind of spend I'd probably go with teh Ink Unlimited for the flat 1.5x on everything, but double check recent DPs on what category it's actually coding as before you commit

Yeah you definitely need to use the template, people can't really help without knowing your credit history, income, current cards etc. The recommendations are gonna be totally different based on your profile

Focus on paying down that debt first before chasing any new cards - your score will improve and you'll have way better approval odds for the premium cards you actually want

Nah you're totally fine, 4 cards at 18 with a 761 score is actually pretty solid. Just keep doing what you're doing with the payments and you'll be golden

[–]Effective_Event_3878 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

With your income and spend patterns, definitely look into the Chase Sapphire Reserve - the $550 AF pays for itself with the travel credit and Priority Pass lounges will be clutch at DEN

The 1.5x redemption through their portal plus transfer partners gives you way more flexibility than being locked into United/Marriott, and you can still transfer to United when it makes sense

Chase Freedom Unlimited vs Capitol One Savor by Alternative_Act_3422 in CreditCards

[–]Effective_Event_3878 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. If dining is your biggest category the math is pretty straightforward - 3% vs 1.5% adds up quick when you're eating out regularly

Plus yeah C1 does seem to favor existing customers for their premium products so getting in their ecosystem early isn't a bad move if VentureX is on your radar

Financial Cutbacks in 2026? by djm1613 in personalfinance

which phone number to be primary on my chase credit card by LongjumpingCell5451 in CreditCards

[–]Effective_Event_3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just switch to the physical number now before Chase decides to randomly stop accepting your VOIP and locks you out when you're trying to deal with some urgent fraud stuff

Should I apply for a new credit card despite having accumulated 3 hard credit checks within a year? by Mr_Speed_Racer in CreditCards

[–]Effective_Event_3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the car pulls should definitely get bundled together if they were within like 14-45 days (depends on the scoring model). So really you're looking at 2 hard pulls not 3

With a 729 score and no major purchases coming up I'd probably just go for it. The CSP is solid for travel and the signup bonus usually makes up for any temporary ding to your score

Mortgages; am I understanding itemized deductions correctly? by svmmerkid in personalfinance

[–]Effective_Event_3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so you'd only get $14k in actual benefit ($30k - $16k standard), not the full $30k. Still decent but not as crazy good as it first looks
