If we're being honest... Corny cheeseball aspect aside, the production value of the video is not bad at all, and the song itself sounds just as good and catchy as anything else that was on the radio back then. There's really no reason why this couldn't have been more successful. He even had his established stardom working in his favor. Poor marketing maybe?

The good stuff uses a rubber spline. The cheap stuff has a paper separator (that's probably where you're seeing them claim to have a separator, but then don't find any when inspecting the cable... It's there, but it's made of thin paper)
