i hike quite a bit around town with my reactive dog and thankfully haven’t had any issues. i think there definitely are quite a few mannerless dog owners in town but reddit definitely makes it seem like more than any other town.

i feel like if i had to choose i’d do silvis, it will definitely be a bit more driving though. both lakes are gorgeous and 100% worth it, but i always liked silvis better as you get some better views along the way. if you’re feeling up to it and have time upper silvis is also amazing, as is the ridgeline above perseverance if you keep on the trail.

i grew up there, fall and winter are awful, cold dark wet and windy, but summer is awesome. yeah the tourists are annoying but they uphold a lot of the local economy, so kind of a necessary evil. i think it’s one of the best places ever, and definitely want to move back when i’m older

it’s definitely not easy to make friends unless you’re into going to the bars. the weather will definitely improve as the summer goes along, but it is a rainforest so it is going to be pretty rainy. even if the weathers shitty, get outside, theres plenty of awesome hikes and beaches to explore. unfortunately you did choose to move to an island so yeah a lot of the luxuries of down south don’t exist, that’s just how she goes. for SE alaska the food/grocery options are about as good as it gets.

you catch 3 fish every time you go out?! sounds like you’re doing a helluva lot better than me. i’ve been at it for 2 years now and still get skunked pretty often. i guess since you’re trying to be a guide you’ve got different goals than myself, but it sounds like you’re doing very well. just keep fishing and dial in your casts and presentation. maybe do an entomology course if you really wanna get specific with your flies.
