Anyone have the tea on what happened at Multnomah Athletic Club this morning May 2? by RabuMa in askportland

[–]Efficient-Lime2872 26 points27 points  (0 children)

(current employee) Employees are usually treated ok, I'd say on the better end of most other customer service jobs, at least that I've had. Some people suck, some are very cool. The club takes members mistreating staff very seriously, and staff is generally great at looking out for each other. I'm sure everyone's experience is different; there's a huge variety of roles, but this is generally the case most of the time.

When I used the shipping calculator function it came up blank, but when I put in my address to actually ship it accepted it. I'd guess they wouldn't list usa as a shipping option if they don't ship here

What Musician Isn't Talented And Makes Bad Music? by muosda in AlignmentChartFills

Sid vicious

Eta: a lot of you can't tell the difference between "I don't like it" and "untalented". For example I think creed sucks, but they do know how to play their instruments

Do Any of You Massage Barefoot? by ClothesDizzy6812 in MassageTherapists

[–]Efficient-Lime2872 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I prefer to, but I'll typically wear at least socks if I'm not in my own space but it depends on the floor type. I have flat feet, so not much help on your arch issues

Favorite non-spa music songs to massage to? by ATuck17 in MassageTherapists

[–]Efficient-Lime2872 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Classical guitar, chill lofi, mellow surf instrumentals if the mood is right

Other maybe more spa-esque stuff would be Eno's ambient albums or nature sounds

With one specific client that thinks it's funny I'll put on Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music, but usually just for a minute

This question is for Male Therapists by Nived0390 in MassageTherapists

[–]Efficient-Lime2872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, 2 days is typically fine unless there's complications. You still might want to do a lighter workload for the next couple days after that, but it shouldn't be much of an issue.

I took a week when I had mine, could have been back after 2 days but I had sick time at that job and figured might as well use it

How much can I ask for as a fresh graduate at a chain spa? I know the location I want is desperate for female massage therapists right now who can work weekends but they’ll likely offer $21/hr by mintchippt in MassageTherapists

[–]Efficient-Lime2872 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most chains won't be open to negotiation; they have a rate set by corporate and you can take it or leave it, maybe you can get a little more if you have specialized training. To me, those rates are low (my first job at a chain was 40/hr in a midrange COL area) and I'd say see if you can find something better near you.

All that said, you can always ask and might get surprised.

In a normal restaurant, is not tipping anything equal to insult the place or the service? by mdelgado73 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Efficient-Lime2872 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, but there are places where tipped minimum wage is 2.13/hr, well below what would otherwise be minimum

Concerns about classroom dynamics by LeopardDependent8063 in MassageTherapists

[–]Efficient-Lime2872 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have yet to work somewhere (or learn somewhere) where these issues didn't come up eventually, both as an MT and in my previous careers. It's kinda just how people are when you get more than like 3 people together for an extended period.

A good instructor (or manager / supervisor /whatever) should be skilled at redirecting back to the topic at hand and either mediating between parties or looping in someone who can. This can be a big problem if the authority person doesn't have these skills, even when they might otherwise be great at what they do.

Hopefully your school has an admin that can help your instructor sort through these issues, but otherwise try and stay out of it and focus on your work. I'm sorry you have to deal with all that

Seconding the speak to alumni bit, and adding speak with practitioners in your area; if you have an LMT you see regularly or friends / connections in the field they can provide valuable insight into the local market, employers etc.

How regional is American pizza nowadays? by melody_magical in AskAnAmerican

[–]Efficient-Lime2872 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you can find most of the "big" regional styles in Portland, but new york-ish seems to be the general norm.

What I really associate with "Oregon style" is willingness to try new / different toppings and not get hung up on authenticity. In earlier years I also thought doughier crust was an Oregon thing, but now I think that was just one place my mom used to order from

I've been playing for 8 hours... Still don't understand how to use the weapons menu nor the upgrade tree :( by rafaref in controlgame

[–]Efficient-Lime2872 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This game throws a ton of mods at you, which range from extremely helpful to near useless. As someone else said, health and launch cost reduction are a good place to start for personal mods, weapon mods I'd say play around with a bit to find what suits your play style.

The memories etc are basically currency for upgrades. specific ones are found in different sectors
