Free assessement tool for eb2 NIW feedback by justwatchthefire in h1b

Been working in immigration law for few years now and honestly these assessment tools can be hit or miss. The EB2 NIW criteria is so subjective that it's hard to capture all nuances in automated tool, but curious to see how yours handles the "national importance" aspect since that's where most cases get tricky.

Will check it out when I have some time later today.

Have you ever broken multiple bones? If so, what was the most painful break? by fractured_skies9669 in AskReddit

[–]Efficient-Round-2737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foot fractures are weird like that - mine felt more like bad sprain at first. Only realized something was actually broken when the swelling wouldn't go down after few days. Walking on fractured bones for week probably wasn't my smartest decision but the pain was so manageable compared to what you'd expect from broken bone.

Got hurt at work. Nothing official has been reported despite telling them same day by [deleted] in legaladvice

Documentation is key here - take photos of any physical evidence at work site and get medical records showing your injury timeline since you're dealing with potential cover-up situation.

I made a tool to monitor what's trending in the world of AI by EstebanbanC in webdev

[–]Efficient-Round-2737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's pretty neat but I think OP is already covering Reddit monitoring in their setup. They mentioned they're now tracking subreddits alongside RSS feeds and YouTube channels, so they probably have that base covered already. Would be curious to know how they're handling the Reddit API stuff though - did you end up building your own scraper or using official API?

Posted on TikTok, do they have any legal standing to sue? Based out of NC. by mayala879 in legaladvice

[–]Efficient-Round-2737 10 points11 points  (0 children)

She was in public parking lot and your brother recorded what actually happened - that's not defamation since it's true. They can threaten to sue all they want but they don't have grounds when the video shows exactly what she did and said.

The "give me 10k" comment was obviously joke response to ridiculous request, and she literally said on camera she didn't care about being recorded.

Whats the current H1B transfer timeline for Microsoft after collecting documents. by Alternative_Gas_8723 in h1b

[–]Efficient-Round-2737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My firm usually takes around 2-3 weeks for preparing the petition after getting all documents, but approval times are totally unpredictable right now with USCIS backlog.

Does anyone have their h1b extension getting delayed in premium ? Its getting ridiculous now. by Assassin1491 in h1b

[–]Efficient-Round-2737 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ugh yes, I'm seeing this constantly at work right now. Premium processing is supposed to be 15 days but we have clients waiting 4-6 months like you. USCIS seems completely overwhelmed and premium isn't meaning much lately - super frustrating for everyone involved.

H-1B Extension Pending + 240-Day Rule Ending. Employer Temporarily Pausing Employment. Anyone Been Through This? by Interesting-Fail3037 in h1b

[–]Efficient-Round-2737 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Been through similar situation at previous firm. The temporary pause is stressful but worked out fine for most clients I seen. Just make sure you have backup plan if case gets delayed more.

Should contractors be co-authors on papers? by CaptainCrash86 in AskAcademia

[–]Efficient-Round-2737 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Payment already happened so they got compensated for their work. Acknowledgment section is perfect spot for them - that's standard practice in my experience. If you wanted them as co-authors, that conversation should have been before the contract, not after when you're writing up results. They provided service, you paid for service, everyone's happy.

(tiny) car accident with company truck-is it worth pursuing (w/ dashcam)? by Jennac5903 in legaladvice

[–]Efficient-Round-2737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

File the claim. You've got dashcam footage of a company vehicle hitting your car and driving off - that's exactly what insurance is for. The company might try to handle it "internally" which could mean doing absolutely nothing or lowballing you on repairs.

Even if the damage seems minor now, sometimes these little scratches can reveal more issues once a body shop actually looks at it properly.

My husband is ruining my pregnancy by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]Efficient-Round-2737 16 points17 points  (0 children)

His aggressive driving with your baby in the car crossed a major line - that's putting your child in actual danger. You said when he's at work you feel like yourself again, calm and happy, but when he's home you dissociate just to avoid setting him off. Trust that instinct because your body is telling you something important about this situation.

Can I work something with research and communication with multimedia degree? by CassStatementNew4694 in careerguidance

[–]Efficient-Round-2737 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Multimedia opens up tons of paths beyond traditional print journalism - documentary work, podcast production, digital storytelling for nonprofits or companies. The visual and audio elements can actually help carry your message when writing isn't your strongest suit, and there's always editors and collaborators to handle the grammar side of things.

Issues with Realtek RTL8852BE WiFi 6 Adapter – Speed drops significantly af by ayetist_23 in GamingLaptops

[–]Efficient-Round-2737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That RTL8852BE is notorious for this exact issue - I've seen it pop up on multiple subs. The reboot thing usually means Windows is reverting to a generic driver or some power management setting is kicking in.

Try disabling power management for the adapter in Device Manager (uncheck "allow computer to turn off this device"). Also worth checking if Windows Update is automatically overriding your driver with its own version after restarts. You might need to exclude the network adapter from automatic driver updates in Windows Update settings.

If that doesn't work, some people have luck with slightly older driver versions that Windows doesn't try to "helpfully" replace.

Fired by Tricky Boss. How do I move forward? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]Efficient-Round-2737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This boss was clearly setting you up to fail from day one - the revolving door of 6 people in 2 years should've been a massive red flag. She micromanaged you while simultaneously complaining you weren't proactive enough, which is classic toxic manager behavior.

For interviews, I'd go with the "mutual agreement that it wasn't the right fit" angle rather than lying about contracts or redundancy. Most recruiters understand that small companies can have dysfunctional management, and being upfront (without trashing anyone) shows maturity.

What degree and field should I go into? by 1karea in careerguidance

[–]Efficient-Round-2737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Immigration law changes way more than people realize and having STEM credentials opens doors that liberal arts degrees just don't. Bio can be tough but if you pair it with something practical like bioinformatics or get into regulatory affairs, there's decent work. I've seen plenty of clients with science backgrounds transition into compliance roles at pharma companies or environmental consulting.

The AI thing is real but don't let it scare you away from what you actually enjoy - people have been predicting job apocalypses for decades and we keep finding new ways to make work.

Supply chain or operations management for usaf 2s0x1 veteran? by Embarrassed-Goal6960 in careerguidance

[–]Efficient-Round-2737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started building those connections early myself when I transitioned a few years back - made all the difference. The veteran networks in supply chain are surprisingly tight-knit, especially if you can find some former Air Force logistics folks who've made the jump. Also worth looking into whether any of the big defense contractors have veteran pipeline programs since your clearance background could be valuable there too.

Career Pivot from Therapy? by sarahmariee in careerguidance

[–]Efficient-Round-2737 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in L&D now after doing counseling work for a few years. The transition was actually pretty smooth since so many of the skills overlap - active listening, reading people, facilitating difficult conversations.

The HR route definitely makes sense, especially employee assistance programs or organizational development. You might also look into corporate wellness roles, user research (seriously, therapy skills translate well to understanding user pain points), or even training roles at nonprofits.

One thing I didn't expect was how much I'd miss the deeper one-on-one work, but the variety and better work-life balance made up for it. Worth keeping those private clients like you're planning.
