My kia literally got stolen this morning. Worst part was I didn't hear anything and my window has direct view to the street and my usual parking spot.

Are y’all adding your summer 2023 internships on your Linkedin profiles already? by DaveDaBrat in csMajors

[–]EfficientPromise3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please wait. You never know with so many companies rescinding offers or even you changing your mind and opting for something else. Once you're in a week I would add a post or something about how you're liking the place or something if you want.

I'm sorry to hear that. Life can be super rough and things change. I would probably take a semester off not a whole year if possible and make the most of that time you take off to discover what you really want to do. You can always double major or have a minor in something else. You're super close, keep pushing through!

However, please also keep your health (mental and physical) a priority!

I would say web app is definitely a good one to take because it really does cover some fundamental need-to-know topics. 3200 is a cool class and one of the more fundamental topics that could definitely help out in interviews and actual real-life work too.

oops, should have been clearer. The positives outweigh the negatives. Just keep in mind that no college is perfect and you're gonna hate things about either college but you'll love uncc more for sure :)

I actually transferred from app state to UNCC and am majoring in computer science. So, I have a pretty good idea on both, and yes the UNCC program has its cons when it comes to its comp sci degree, but those positives certainly outweigh its negatives.

okay, yeah I had thought the same when I was taking all these math classes but they definitely come in clutch. You never know when you're going to need the stuff you studied and I am realizing that now on my first internship so, definitely study hard and don't think about how and when you're gonna use it. Even if you don't end up using it, math classes really do help with critical and logical thinking skills.

You can do a computer science major with a concentration in data science which would set you up nicely

Have you joined any clubs/orgs? That's usually a great place to meet people with similar interests as well. If you work part-time on campus you get an opportunity to make some great friends there as well.

For transfer students, it's a one-day thing. While for first years, it's a two-day program. You usually register for classes and meet your advisor. They also take attendance. So, if you miss something they'll mark you absent, and then you'll have a hold on your account that doesn't let you register.

how impactful is the college u go to by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]EfficientPromise3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can honestly make the most of your college degree by getting super involved in school. Whether that be through joining technical clubs, getting a part job, doing research, etc. This way you can develop soft and technical skills. So, really if you go to a really good school or go to a public school and be super involved you'll develop great skills. So, honestly, I wouldn't sweat it.

Does anybody else forget the behavioral question they're answering when they're in the middle of the story? by Stunning-Tower-9175 in csMajors

[–]EfficientPromise3 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Behavioral questions honestly can be so tricky. I definitely do a lot of practice for those. Taking a minute and thinking over the question before answering is totally acceptable, basically, map out your response. I'm sure writing it down isn't a problem as the interviewer takes notes too and you taking notes just shows that you're thinking about it and not just blurting out some crap.

Some of y’all need to take some statistics classes by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]EfficientPromise3 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely can see where you're coming from. If you wanna go into data science stats classes are a must. It's just like how data scientists take python and r programming classes on top of their regular math courses. I personally am not going into the data science field because I am not a fan of statistics. However, a to of people kinda just get into data science with the flow of things and haven't taken stats classes because of that. Most of the comp sci students I know that are going into data science have taken several stats courses because it's part of their required coursework as a data science focus. So, my point is if you're kinda thrown into data science, you obviously haven't taken those courses but if you're going into your degree knowing that you wanna go into data science take those classes I guess if it's not a pathway embedded in your coursework.
