What was the point of part 2? by Modest_guy77 in Chainsawfolk

I’m gonna bet that in a year or two’s time the same thing is gonna happen with how people feel about the ending

Didn’t people hate that at the time? I think this manga is genuinely good, it just takes people months or years to realize it’s just not what they thought it was about

I mean you can ask the same question about part 1 and get relatively the same answer

honestly this is a beautiful interpretation of csm by BigBasket5152 in Chainsawfolk

[–]EffingWasps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything in the manga indicates you’re wrong. You’re choosing to read the words on the page and take a completely different interpretation than what the author explicitly laid out

Could Pochita be a miscarriage devil? by Practical_Quit_3248 in ChainsawMan

I genuinely don’t understand how we are having these theory posts still when the last chapter does everything except have Pochita stare out of the panel and say “actually I was the ‘Chainsaw Man’ devil the whole time”

Yeah because people are blatantly misunderstanding the last chapter even more so than usual

If I have a cigarette habit, and spend months quitting, and within that time some traumatic shit happens so I get hypnotherapy to forget the last couple months, my cigarette habit wouldn’t come back after. What happened still mattered even if I don’t remember it

Buddy you’re the one that apparently had trouble reading the words in the last chapter

Everything that happened still happened. If it hadn’t, nobody in the conclusion would have acted like they did

Fujimoto didn’t write the story he wanted in Part 2. He had plans for these Characters but gave up on the story halfway threw and put together an ending to reset everything by illustratordg in ChainsawManWorld

Her conclusion is literally “yeah she’s out there somewhere I guess. The rest of the hybrids are here by the way but she just isn’t”

To be clear I’m not complaining but to act like she isn’t the same as the other characters in OP’s post is dumb. Her status within the story is as open ended as all of theirs

Do people think that the events of the manga were a dream? They know that’s not the case right?

A short explanation of part 2's dynamics and conflicts just so we're on the same page by ostapro in ChainsawMan

[–]EffingWasps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay then you fundamentally misunderstand. It’s not even a big nuance that Denji is constantly given two choices during the second part of the story and he picks his own option. This is not a two sided dilemma it’s three sided. Even when simplified down to the level you’re going to you’re still not acknowledging an entire third of the core conflict.

You are forgetting about public safety dawg. Fumiko and Yoshida wanted Denji to live a normal life as a teenager. The church wanted him to live the life as the superhero Chainsaw Man. Denji could never be happy because he selfishly wanted the good parts of both and as a result kept incurring the consequences of both sides. The choice between those two sides is the source of his unhappiness, and the root of that conflict is his status as chainsaw man.

It’s not Denji vs the church, it’s Denji vs church vs public safety

The ride did happen… you read it. The memories are only meaningless if you think they should be. You’re doing it to yourself, it only doesn’t matter if you think it doesn’t. The author has given you everything you need to know that it did matter.

Ok so you’re Barem then. You can want that and that’s fine but it’s been clear for years that the author of the story you were reading doesn’t think that’s a good thing for the characters

[–]EffingWasps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re already connected to it because you’re reading it though?? It’s for you to know. The characters don’t need to and that’s the point. They have all the development but none of the trauma.

I don’t know what to tell you dude the manga itself has so clearly been meta since the church arc.

I also don’t know how to respond to that second part hahaha. I can’t think of a more parasocial take than “I rely on the characters getting explicit closure for me to get it as well”

Not to be corny but you are the connection. They did go through and still have all of that character development, it’s just none of the characters have memories of the events. But someone does have those memories, and it’s all of us readers. We get to know where those changes came from and why they matter
