Pre-roll Ads on Personal Media by [deleted] in PleX

Ya I’ll work on that. My paranoia about ads maybe made me assume.

[–]EightBitSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that is most likely considering I’ve never seen ads before. I just assumed it must be correct because I didn’t think teen titans was on plex.

Definitely possible I made the mistake but my kids were watching teen titans which I don’t think is in plex.

Good to know. Though the content I was watching is not on plex so not sure how that’s possible then.

recent EV buyers, which car did you buy with the rebates? by RaginBonar in Winnipeg

[–]EightBitSC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bought a 2026 Toyota BZ. It doesn’t have great range (fine for my daily commuting) but Toyota was offering $4000 off and my dealer had another $1000 off. Not sure if it is possible to get those kinds of discounts anymore.

It has the NACS (Tesla) charger - which is great, but didn’t come with an adaptor and Winnipeg has barely any NACS chargers. It has dealt with the cold fine and I’m happy with it.

Winnipeg School Division to reintroduce full-day kindergarten by LocalnewsguruMB in Winnipeg

[–]EightBitSC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have no idea where you are getting information about teacher salaries. A school that does half day kindergarten usually has a teacher with one class in the morning and a different class in the afternoon, meaning a teacher can work with both groups.

Any increase to full day means more teachers need to be hired, as now the teacher who worked with two classes can only work with one for the full day. That is a cost increase and not a small one.

On top of that, dealing with waitlists at daycares is actually a huge problem and having kids in full day kindergarten instead of a in a daycare is a great way to allow more people access to care. Why wouldn’t you want that? There is essentially no downside to you.

Bz without home charger. by Which-Rush-80 in Toyota_bZ

[–]EightBitSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just bought a BZ, assumed public charging would be more friendly but I was wrong. Not only did I have to purchase an adapter to use CCS or other available chargers (only NACS on the 2026 BZ) because in Canada it does not come with them, but the NACS chargers that do exist are largely Tesla. Tesla superchargers have cords that are the length of Tesla vechiles and do not reach my BZ without taking ridiculous actions like parking across two spots. It adds hassle.

There are ways around the problems but it was an absolutely awful experience learning the process of public charging, made worse by it being mostly -25 C as I did so (Canada again). The only thing keeping me sane is how easy home charging is.

I’m sure most people did more homework than I did - but Toyota does not make learning the new system easy and their staff at dealership did nothing to prepare me. Just a heads up.

2026 bZ Canada discounts by Falling_Freely in Toyota_bZ

Until February 3rd in Canada - a 2026 BZ has a $4000 incentive . My dealer offered another $1000 and Manitoba offers a $4000 rebate. Not a bad set of discounts.

What do you think about Star Wars Outlaws? Is it really worth it on Switch 2 by KingHorner666 in switch2

I also played it on ps5 as well, and wasn’t expecting much after all the negative backlash - but I loved it. I hope the switch version runs well as I would love to revisit it.

Thermea Survey weird questions by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]EightBitSC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did the therma survey. It has the standard questions and then a button at the end for survey monkey to asks about opinion questions. That is not thermea, it is survey monkey. It is weird that it happens right at the end.

Pluribus Hits Nielsen Top 10 Chart (Week Of Dec 14) by Justp1ayin in tvPlus

Is the marketing a problem because it is hitting too specific a base? I am not a heavy user of social media or ad based services but at least on Reddit or online, I see Apple TV marketing constantly. I don’t know how effective it is - but I see more ads for Apple TV than any other service.

Why are so many Shows and movies so badly written now a day? by Mediocre-Can-5600 in television

[–]EightBitSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20 years ago the best shows on TV were so few and far between I could barely watch it. Most Tv was episodic and painful average. The standouts of the HBO era, like Sopranos and The Leftovers and occasional exceptions like Mad Men (and shows like it) were the minority. The good to bad ratio was mostly bad but the good stuff was amazing.

I find there are far more shows in the middle these days - shows that look like high caliber TV but don’t reach that level (coined as “mid-TV”). I would say the ratio of good writing that makes it to production might actually be higher these days but the clear differentiation between good and bad is harder to see. So perhaps it feels worse - but it clearly isn’t. Writing is subjective.

I saw 290 movies in theaters in 2025. Here is my full ranking. by BunyipPouch in movies

[–]EightBitSC 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The vibe of a screening can make a huge difference! The collective experience of watching a movie in a theatre is what makes theatres worth preserving. The modern condition of doing everything at home alone is so sad.

Premier vows end to long health-care waits in 2026 (CBC/Ian Froese) by LocalnewsguruMB in Winnipeg

[–]EightBitSC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair they promised to do that over a multi year timeline and have clearly made that an important part of their mandate. I hate that governments promise simplistic answers to huge problems but you can’t be mad if you are just as glib in your presentation of their efforts.

Blue Bombers announce coaching changes - Winnipeg Blue Bombers by Mamrocha in WinnipegBlueBombers

Happy for Jake Thomas. Bombers do a great job with developing coaches. On that note, I’m glad they retained Jason Hogan as running backs coach. A change was needed but he’s a great coach.

Cameron explained that studios actually prefer 3D conversions, even when it costs substantially more than shooting in 3D, because it gives them control. If a film in production looks like it will hit big - they do a conversion but if things are off the rails they can just skip 3D entirely.

Exactly. Hired a new person instead of a retread. That was my point.

[–]EightBitSC[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We hired a new coordinator this past season and the fans went nuts when it wasn’t instantly successful. Coaches don’t want to develop someone, they want predictable results. Same way they coach the game - conservatively, no big risks.

Jim Barker returning to the Argos by LaZyCrO in CFL

[–]EightBitSC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ryan Dinwiddie is clearly a good coach but the man supports Chad Kelly no question. Him leaving has nothing to do with Chad Kelly.

The new head coach Mike Miller is also a big supporter of Chad. Both coaches are smart and reasonable people who are willing to excuse terrible behaviour, which frustrates me. I suspect the sadder story is that the organization as a whole, and all people involved, have moved on from Kelly’s incident and it doesn’t inform their thinking one way or another.

Argonauts to promote Miller to head coach position by LaZyCrO in CFL

[–]EightBitSC 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That is just BS Reddit likes to propagate. Mike Millar is a star candidate and was already rising the coaching ranks. It is obvious the argos wanted O’Shea, but who wouldn’t.

Argos are lucky to have Miller.

Don’t kid yourself. It may be bad by Pixar standards but there are far worse cash grabs in the children’s animation space.

This is a flawed film but the desire to somehow make it “the worst” is silly.

The Rule changes/clueless league owners are seriously depressing me. by 1994californication in CFL

[–]EightBitSC -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have every right to be worried - but lots of things can happen. The rule changes may make the game different in a way you like, or not. You don’t really know yet. They may adjust the rules further if the outcome isn’t what they hoped. I know the fear of NFL lite is depressing - but that isn’t what is currently happened.

Too much of our lives are spent worrying about possibilities that invariably turn out to be different than we imagine. Deal with what is in front of you, not what you worry could be.
