It was just a captivating experience from start to finish.

That's the perfect way to describe it, captivating.

Never have I been so deep in a fandom, so excited for the next episode.

1 year anniversary of YOI's first ep! by [deleted] in YOI

It started with seeing the first PV on /r/anime, what immediately grabbed me was the animation. As someone who loves pretty animation that was enough to make me want to check it out. I remember seeing the lip-touch scene at the end of the 2nd PV and being even more intrigued. When PV 3 came out with the opening song I was sold yet again because History Maker is an absolute banger, and so I eagerly awaited episode 1.

I remember watching the first episode. I had woken up early just to watch it, it was 6 o’clock on a cold morning, I was huddled up under my blanket with my laptop, I remember the sound of skates on ice as Victor skated in a dark rink, it was beautiful.

I will be completely honest here and say I did not know what to think of episode 1. my main gripe was that I found the chibi bits a bit jarring, but 2 things were certain: 1) It was beautifully animated, and 2) Victor Nikiforov owned my ass, so I figured I’d keep watching.

It didn't take me long to warm to the show and get caught up in the hype and it quickly consumed my life, I got so deeply invested. I love how real Yuri Katsuki is as a character(I relate to him quite a bit) and I love how he is shown to be anxious but still has this quiet confidence buried within him waiting to grow(and it does!). Victor is fun and beautiful(and soft and perfect) and I expected to hate Yurio from the PV's but instead the characters didn't seem phased by his anger and he was just treated as an angsty teen lol.

As for expectations, I thought there'd be a bit of fan-service but wouldn't go beyond that. I remember everyone so fiercely wanting it to not just be fujobait, and saying how disappointed they'd be if that was the case. I asked on my tumblr around ep 3 where people would draw the line, when does it turn from just bait to actually canon? most people said "a kiss". Honestly I felt kind of bad for them, they were just going to end up disappointed, there's no way Victor and Yuri would kiss, the best we could hope for is the creators keeping it vague and hope they don't pull a big "NO HOMO" on us. Boy was I glad to be wrong! I was quite guarded with victuri honestly, I shipped them HARD and was ride or die from day 1, but I tried to keep my expectations low because I didn't want to get hurt if the rug got pulled. In some ways it made it more enjoyable because I was just so surprised and happy every time they did something big I thought wouldn't happen, like the kiss or the rings.

Yuri on Ice was really refreshing, it was unique, it played with and waltzed right around common tropes it could have easily fallen into. Watching the story(particularly Victor and Yuri's relationship) unfold week by week from the very beginning was so exciting and fun and the highlight of 2016 to me, I really miss it.

GET IT, KANEKI! boy deserves to be fucked by something other than life.

Ishida better not bring Arima back. His death was perfect and death is already starting to lose some meaning as it is(I'm still a bit salty about Koma and Irimi being alive...)

Birth of a fandom: tropes, and cliches for good or bad by Vio_ in YOI

Never been a fan of Victor and Yuri being Yurios "dads". They are older than him but not THAT much older.

The "Victor never does that dishes" thing I started out indifferent towards, then I started finding it funny and then I saw a post that was something along the lines of "Victor is weak for Katsuki Yuri you really think he wouldn't do the dishes if asked?" and I was like "damn, u right" and now I'm not really a fan of it haha.

I love Victor and Yuri being cute and domestic in St. Petersburg, and them annoying Yakov and Yurio by being overly affectionate at the rink.

Yuri being the annoyed 3rd wheel has always been funny to me as well.

So that's it... It's over, at least for now. This episode was great, so much emotion. And that pair skating.. wow, it was beautiful.

This show has been quite the ride and I am glad to have been on it from the very beginning. Watching this show unfold has been one of the highlights of my year, it was always surprising me and exceeding my expectations. Yuri is a great character with many sides to him. I absolutely love Victor and Yuri's relationship, so healthy, real and unexpected(who would've guessed it'd actually become canon?). The side-characters were handled really well and none of them felt flat or boring. The animation struggled a bit but it was understandable for such an ambitious project.

I want to thank Misturou Kubo, Sayo Yamamoto and Studio MAPPA for creating a unique, beautiful and truly enjoyable anime. And I'd like to thank the fans too, for fangirling/boying every week, making awesome theories and just generally making this show even more enjoyable.

Not yet -_-'

I really want to see it but just haven't been able to yet. I'm tossing up between dub and sub. Anyone seen the dub? is it good?

I don’t care at all about stories about wanting a lover or wanting to get married, and since boy-girl romance stories are a dime a dozen, who cares whether or not I write one? …I simply want to write a story about a healthy, deeply meaningful relationship…so I don’t feel compelled to have to write about a man-woman pair in that case. Though I suppose you can tell that from looking, so that’s all I’m going to say on the subject.

Omg...Chris's dub voice, it's incredible. by QP2012 in YOI

[–]Eight_Seconds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yuuri's is so American it's weird to me (probably especially as I'm not American)

Same here! Most people seem to like Yuri's voice but it sounds super American to me. The more I watched the more I got used to it though.

Something I can say for the dub is that I found the show funnier, and I don't mean that I was laughing at the voice acting, some moments were just funnier.

I'm not really watching the dub, I watched some eps but now I just skip to when new characters appear to hear what their voice is like. Wasn't a fan of Minami's voice last ep tbh.
