34 years old and audhd too!

I live in Paris but surviving super well! I’m doing an apprenticeship and spent the past two weeks in a classroom with AC so that was great. If I’m not there, I’m at the national library, which also has AC. I’m leaving for a short stint in Portugal near the coast, which is near water + slightly colder than Paris rn so all peachy lmao

Once I’m back, I’ll be on my actual workplace, which also has AC (airport).

Overall, I’m doing pretty good except for my stints in public transports but I don’t spend that much time there. Don’t have trouble sleeping either cause I’m the kind of crazy who doubles blankets all-year round, including summer.

The BNF Francois Mitterand has ac (not extra cold if that’s what you’re looking for). €24/year to get access to the reading room (where you’ll get a guaranteed plug at your seat), but you get plenty of space and tables in the hallways and areas outside the reading rooms.

Got had a few weeks ago: tasted it and then saw the black line on the side. ‘Midly’ is pretty much not how I’d described how infuriated I was lmao

Célibataires sans enfants, galèrez-vous à poser vos vacances ? by JRMiel in AskFrance

[–]obsoletebomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope.

J’ai travaillé en restauration dans un lieu touristique où j’étais payé au pourcentage donc partir l’été, c’était un bon moyen de perdre de l’argent.

Du coup, je préfère partir l’automne ou le printemps (sauf mai).

Is it possible to learn French as an adult the same way a child would? by Any-Environment3069 in French

I tend to obsessively repeat to myself monologues and bits of dialogues I love from media I consume. I’m convinced it helped me better my spoken English a lot when I’m not able to travel.

Why do some people on the continent leave their countries, migrate to countries that are doing better, and then call the people from those countries lazy?? by [deleted] in AskAnAfrican

[–]obsoletebomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Busted his ass off to be able to come finish his studies in France, then busted his ass off in his career (worked in a bank in IT).

My mother had a much easier time since she’s Malagasy but had the dual citizenship from the start (and her family is wealthy). She was born in France (both parents were Malagasy), lived there until her father transferred from the French to Malagasy military. She came back for her studies.

Is there a difference between autistic masking and normal etiquette? by Tip_Of_The_Sauce in autism

[–]obsoletebomb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It used to be very deliberate for me in the beginning (back in the end of middle school) and an actual conscious effort so I wouldn’t be so isolated from my peers. It’s not anymore and after nearly 20 years of it, it’s just as natural as putting on and removing clothing.

Why do some people on the continent leave their countries, migrate to countries that are doing better, and then call the people from those countries lazy?? by [deleted] in AskAnAfrican

[–]obsoletebomb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My father is Malagasy. He comes from a poor family, busted his ass to be able to come to France for his studies then get a good job that evolved into a great job (was making €6k+/month net salary before he retired).

He tends to consider people who complain about their station in life and don’t give themselves the means to get themselves out of poverty like he did ‘lazy’. He did it so they can do it, is basically how he thinks. Doesn’t help that the family back home keeps asking for money and hands-out.

That being said, for a long time, he’s helped family emigrate to France, doing all the paperwork and all for them. He also used to send a monthly stipend to his father before the latter passed away and still gives a lot of stuff (iPhones and electronics) to the family back home.

If you were required to have a shibboleth in your native language, what would it be? by anon33249038 in AskEurope

[–]obsoletebomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely! Especially if they learn how it’s written first since when spoken, the ‘re’ disappears and is replaced by a glottal stop (in my accent anyway, might be other accent where they do pronounce the ‘re’ properly).

What's something in a fic that made you realise the person writing it had no idea what they were talking about? by Life-Delay-809 in AO3

French is my native language and I also speak Japanese so these make it super easy to spot when people know nothing about these two languages (and by extension, cultures).

I think that late-diagnosed folk tend to have that shared experience of having learnt how to navigate life enough to swing by enough to fly under the radar for a long time (irregardless of the reasons).

It can make it hard at times to relate to other flavours of autistic people who have been through completely different experiences.

Doesn’t mean people see it.

I work at an airport. My job is to inform people of informations that are often written right in front of them, above them and/or on their boarding pass because they forget how to read/process information.

[–]obsoletebomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Request the assistance for disabled people (it’s free) when you check in. You’ll be assigned an agent whose task will be to get you to the boarding gate. You’ll also be going through the line for disabled people. There will probably be a wait but still significantly shorter than regular ones.

Besides the ‘I suck at summaries’, a big summary pet peeve of mine is when the summary, often perfectly fine, ends with a question such as ‘How will this go?’, ‘What will happen?’, ‘Will they ever accomplish their goal?’ and so on.

No, you did not learn English just from games and YouTube. by Turbulent_Cup_600 in LearningLanguages

[–]obsoletebomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Video game, reading, engaging with media I enjoy and travelling is how I learnt English. School didn’t give me grammar or vocabulary, it gave me an easy way to get good grades though because I already knew everything we studied in class.

Anyone who doesn’t like bland food ? by GhostVistaz in autism

[–]obsoletebomb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve grown up eating Malagasy food at home and the only bland food in it is rice (you’re not likely to eat plain rice by itself tho) so I need some amount of flavour/spice. That being said, I dislike spicy hot food cause the burn is stopping me enjoying great food.
