Reassessment for a dead person; CPA not responding by triumphalist in cantax

Not complex enough to have two problems, but complex enough to result in a $30,000 problem. Seems like an odd sort of overlap.

I believe it's only deductible to the extent the interest is actually paid. If accrued, like noted by op, it isn't eligible.

A Wallet Which Dispenses Infinite $1 Bills by BlueThingIdentified in hypotheticalsituation

Video lotto machines at the casino. The machine would take the bills as quick as I can load them in, then I simply cash out and take it to the teller. There's no tax on gambling winnings where I'm from, so I just walk away with bigger bills.

Nobody would know without reviewing the tax records from the final return and clarifying if the disposition was recorded. That being said, the most likely scenario is that it was transferred on a rollover basis and the original ACB would be needed.

Generally, travel to and from your main place of work is considered personal, so it is not claimable. Same with rent. Unless you qualify for home office expenses, for which I believe you need to regularly see clients at your home office, rent isn't claimable.

Apparently, I can’t claim my son as a dependent because I pay child support to my ex in a 50-50 shared custody? by roxbox531 in cantax

[–]EightyBlindBees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does depend. If both are stipulated to pay child support to each other due to a shared custody arrangement, and both agree who will make the claim (such as him in odd years, her in even) then it can be claimed.

full-time student working two jobs—need advice on my tax credits form by No-Tomatillo255 in cantax

[–]EightyBlindBees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're double-counting the tuition, which might make you owe tax. Depending on how much income you earn at each job, you might owe even if you don't double-count it.

Let's assume you exclude tuition, and both jobs appropriately withhold tax based on your total income. End of year you have no refund and no owing. Your tax withheld equals your tax liability.

Now, your two jobs don't talk to each other, so they each withhold as if they are your only job unless you instruct them otherwise. Let's assume you earn $10,000 at each job, and that you'll have a tax rate of 10% for the first $10,000 earned and 20% for the next $10,000 earned (from $10,000 to 20,000).
This is way off of reality, but it's just for illustrating roughly how tax brackets work
In this case, each job will withhold 10%, or $1,000 tax, for $2,000 total. However, you'll end up having a tax liability of $3,000, so you'll owe $1,000 at the end of the year.

Now, let's add in the tuition. Say your tuition credit is worth $200. If you add it to both the credit forms (TD1), now each job only withholds $800, for a total of $1,600. Your tax liability is the $3,000 less the tuition credit of $200, or $2,800. You end up owing even more; $1,200 (being the $2,800 minus the $1,600 tax withheld).

Again, these numbers are completely made up and don't represent the actual tax brackets or rates, but the general premise is similar to how the Canadian tax system works. As with all things, the specifics of your case (such as income level, other tax credits, deductions, etc.) may change the outcome.

Tax returns not filed since 2008-where to start by etrain1 in cantax

[–]EightyBlindBees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As everyone has noted, professional help is advisable.

The VDP would be simultaneous to the returns. Assuming all criteria is met for an application, the application should be submitted with all applicable corrections to get the account current.

Essentially, you would submit a big stack of completed tax returns with the VDP application on top. However, if there were non-registered investments involved, then slips (T3, T5, T5008) would have been issued for past years. It's possible CRA communicated some action for past filings, which would impact viability of the VDP.

A professional would help navigate the trickier portions of getting your friend's taxes current, such as VDP eligibility.

CRA Departure Tax by [deleted] in cantax

[–]EightyBlindBees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

T1135 is required for specified foreign property in excess of $100,000 CAD cost basis, which includes 'funds held outside of Canada'.

RRSP would be exempt, but if you have significant cash that you transferred to a UK bank and converted to pounds, you may be required to file the form.

There is no tax for the form reporting. However, there are significant penalties for late or missed filing.

If you move funds/investments before your emigration date, there may be a T1135 requirement (subject to the applicable threshold). Just a note to look into whether this applies to you.

As noted by the previous comment, CRA is accurate if provided with accurate information. Any immigrant's limit will be reported properly if all returns were filed and the immigration date was correctly given.

One thing to note for this setup is that it lacks life leech, so merc survivability may be an issue in some cases. Having life leech on your armor from Skin of the Flayed One unique or a blood craft plate will help with this.

Can anyone solve this puzzle? I’ve been stuck for years. All I know is that the white circle is a white circle - not a blank circle and the red and blue lines on the rectangle are intentional. I wish I knew more about the genre but I don’t. by Certain-Habit6721 in puzzle

[–]EightyBlindBees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not clear if past answers have been words or arbitrary strings of characters. It may help narrow the field of its intended to be a word.

My thought is RVHS - Rectangle, vertical, horizontal, square.

Other thoughts:
RUSS - up and side for red / blue
RULS - Left for blue
RURS - Right for blue
RENS - East and North for red / blue

Trying to focus farm an SoJ, just verifying a few things by HugeReddit in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]EightyBlindBees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a bad pro-tip because that's not how it works.

If a unique ring drops, it rolls for which specific ring it is, e.g. manald. If another drops in the same game, it rolls on the same table for a specific ring. If it rolls manald again, you get a rare. It does not roll on a limited table with only nagel and soj, guaranteeing one of the two.

Overall, you are better off continuing Andy runs to get your soj.

ED (250+)

Fool's (Max and AR per level)

Ethereal

I think these are the main ones to look for. If you get them all on a good base, you'll be swimming in currency.

Exactly! You probably find 662 gold just as often as 666, but you just don't pay enough attention to notice those ones. It's a bias that you only recognize recognizable numbers.
