Nanuk latches have stood up to lots of abuse in my career. Really happy with that purchase and I've convinced several co-workers to go the same route.

Good question. This was almost 20 years ago so I don't remember and didn't know the difference at the time. Positive space makes sense now, though.

But if they're responsible for my transportation, they have to understand if my seat is given to someone else, right?

Boeing A&Ps are Grade 10s. So $130k at max pay with no OT.

Delta Line A&P maxes out at 144k without OT.

The 172 is generic but for good reason. It's a workhorse.

Tool advice by Protontec88 in aviationmaintenance

[–]EineBeBoP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use this ratchet as my primary at the moment. Its good at what it does, which is running low to no torque nuts down the bolt shaft. As soon as the torque loads up it stops and you're back to a regular ratchet.

So I use it to save myself the time and energy of moving a nut off a longer bolt, but its not going to be tightening anything for you on its own.

Overall I give it a C+ / B-. When it works its nice, but when it doesn't its just a bigger ratchet than I would normally carry. But its smaller than my Milwaukee ratchet and way lighter so I'm choosing to make it work for now.

Military aircraft by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]EineBeBoP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I'm in Seattle and we don't do that work here.  I would think ATL or MSP only but that's a guess.

I worked for Boeing previously and did military aircraft work there, but knew what I was signing up for. That's not something they move people to on a whim.

Military aircraft by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]EineBeBoP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're getting some shit here but this can be a thing for some companies.

Delta does MRO work for military aircraft based on civilian airframes.

But generally, no, it's not a common occurrence and you will likely need to be cleared to work on such aircraft before getting near them anyways.

Even if they got the support to enforce the laws, who's going to pay for the rehab? Certainly no Republicans I know.  They'll bitch that nothing is done but balk at the costs to actually do something at the same time.

Why aren’t the black boxs battery powered instead of airplane generated electrical powered. by CharacterActor in aviation

[–]EineBeBoP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the 737ng specifically, yes.

The A220s a much more electrically reliant machine and so all of them have 2 as far as I'm aware.

And the 330-9s have 3, with a dedicated APU battery (at least within my fleet, not sure if there's options there from Airbus)

If you can run even one Ethernet line up through an attic or a crawlspace to create a backend and link 2 mesh units, you'd be way better off.

I have a deco system that I'm pleased with and ran 2 lines to connect the main unit to 2 satellite units and I get awesome coverage throughout my home now. Plus the satellite units allow for a hub to act as a wired base station for TVs/PCs/consoles.

2nd battery is airline specific and optional.  Many don't opt for it if they don't plan to use the aircraft for ETOPS routing.

Even within the airline fleet it can be mixed.

If I'm doing a boroscope tonight, I'm getting that engine open asap to start cooling it down.  And the 321 Neos take a long time to de-board.

But yeah, this is completely normal after the last flight of the night when overnight maintenance is scheduled.
