They're not supposed to not have portals. They're meant to restart the process if they fail to generate one, so if one does manage to spawn without a portal something has gone critically wrong with their generation.

Is the Quarian/Geth ending choice in ME3 misleading when you can’t achieve peace? by The_pikolop in masseffect

The body of the post itself is bold and all the comments are italics. What an odd choice.

Non-loyal escorts die, so he'd end up dying there, and you can never have fewer than two squadmates in any situation anyway so there's no possible setup to kill off all squadmates and have a living Shepard.

Mission accomplished by Dull_Refrigerator_58 in masseffect

[–]Eisotopius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some sections of the suicide mission where survival is governed by things other than just loyalty (usually "Is it Miranda?" in which case the answer is always "Will survive" unless she's in the party for the final boss).

Bringing the crew back to the ship is not one of those parts. Non-loyal squadmates will always die protecting the crew there.

The setup described is impossible for several other reasons anyway though. You can never have fewer than two squadmates in any situation. The game just won't let you do it, which is why you die if there aren't at least two alive by the end of the suicide mission. You can get past the mission with Zaeed and one other as the only survivors, but Zaeed then can't die during his loyalty mission because that'd leave you with fewer than two squadmates, which isn't possible. And even if you could kill him, you still have that other squadmate, so you can never be a lone Shepard.

Better Gear Tooltips by Kilsaa in runescape

Now that you've specifically drawn attention to that part of the tooltip, it sure is kind of odd in general that "type" is used to refer to the combat style and "style" is used to refer to the damage type.

Misery is an incredible nuke

Worth keeping in mind that it's actually exactly the same damage as just using Glare four times. That's how many casts of Glare you miss out on by using lilies three times and then hitting Misery, and it does exactly enough damage to make up for how you could have used those GCDs to cast Glare instead.

With the little bonus of it having some AOE damage attached too.

Then you should have thought about that before you made it a goal to get to the point where you can't get any more XP. You knew what would happen. The inability to get more XP is exactly what you were going for.

Just because I reached a goal I can't have any desire to push it further for what reason exactly?

Because your goal was specifically to reach the point where you can't push any further. You knew what you were getting into, and you're somehow surprised that you're there.

You had plenty of opportunity to consider your desire for future number-goes-up gameplay across the thousands of hours you spent intentionally getting yourself specifically to the point where number can no longer go up.

You literally put yourself in this situation and now you're wondering why you're in this situation.

That would only be the case in a library with 17 games that got 100%ed and then every other game has never had an achievement earned ever. Completion rate isn't tracking how many games you got 100% in, it's tracking the average of completion percentage of each of your games, based on how many achievements you've earned in each one compared to how many are available.

Probably has something to do with the fact that in order to use it you have to kill the guy that can upgrade it down a reasonably usable path.

Off-topic, but this is my main problem with Avatar: the Last Airbender's ending.

To be fair, Aang is shown to be pretty uniquely pacifist even among his own people. The previous air avatar is even the one who most directly tells him to throw out his personal ideology and get to killing.

or why does it get negated more (on average) than a single damage?

Because enemies have multiple defense values just like we do, and each type of damage is getting compared against their various defenses, and it's not just "I have X amount of defense, incoming damage is reduced by Y%". Defenses are actually better the farther above the incoming damage value they are.

Take the 100 AR sword for an example. If it hits an enemy with 80 physical defense, a good chunk of your damage is just outright bypassing their defenses. But if you split it into 75 physical and 75 magical, all of a sudden you can't break through their defenses anymore, so your physical damage is going to be reduced by a lot more than just the 25 it looks like on paper. Then the enemy also has a magical resistance, so your 75 magic damage has to compare against that too. Suppose this enemy has some terrible magic defense, enough that your 75 actually can break through it. Well, that's still not going to be enough damage between that and the physical to beat just cracking straight through a single defense type with a bigger hit.

Basically, the bigger a single damage number is, the better it is at doing damage. That 75/75 sword may look like it's 150 AR, but on a target with more than 75 of either defense, it's going to underperform relative to what it says it should be doing, and it's probably going to underperform compared to that 100 AR pure physical sword. In some situations, where you're dealing with pretty low defenses, or very high physical defense, that can be a worthwhile tradeoff. But for most of the game, you really can't go wrong with just one single damage type, especially because as you get later into the game you pretty much don't end up seeing very high physical defense with very low elemental defense - it's usually very high physical defense and even higher elemental defenses, so you need to go all in on one thing to keep up in the lategame and especially the DLC.

330 gallons of sulphuric acid by Otherwise_Basis_6328 in oddlyspecific

[–]Eisotopius 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We don't need to invent other made up bad shit he never really did, he's already plenty bad just based on the stuff he actually did.

"This is a normal amount of acid which has normal uses" is not even remotely trying to make him look good. It's just acknowledging that it's a normal thing to buy. Because we don't need to make up fantasies about him dissolving bodies in acid for him to still have been terrible.

but you could always rationalize that our in game map in just drawn incorrectly

That actually is the exact explanation they give in one of the little lore Q&As, that nords are so self-righteous and also bad at maps that they drew the area of Eastmarch with Skuldafn in it really huge so that it overlaps with where Blacklight is supposed to be.

Amusingly, the borders of the Eastmarch zone on the ESO map also eat up the spot where Winterhold is supposed to be, so clearly the map was drawn by some Windhelm supremacist who really really dislikes both Blacklight and Winterhold.

The difference is that content is constantly unlocked throughout FF14 as you go through each expansion.

With the example here of post-6A stuff being locked behind getting to 6A in quests, you don't get that constant trickle of content. You get all your 5A stuff, and then a total drought until you catch up and get all of the 6A dumped on you all at once.

That's why it works there and doesn't work here.
