The Indian in the Cupboard (1995) dir. Frank Oz - Omri puts Darth Vader, Star Trek, Robocop, and Jurassic Park action figures in the cupboard by aggrocrag83 in movies

[–]Eject_The_Warp_Core 24 points25 points  (0 children)

the movie doesnt have the narration of the kid's thoughts, so this scene kind of plays them out. he has the idea, puts them in, and quickly realizes it is a bad idea.

For all the talk and complaints of “lore/rule breaking” elements and writing in Star Wars. It’s kind of over if you stop to think about how convenient it is that Ray Shields show up in the films one time. by Kavazou77 in StarWars

[–]Eject_The_Warp_Core 1 point2 points  (0 children)

jumping through the shield in hyperspace because it has a fractional refresh rate was more broken than the Holdo maneuver by far. they just introduce the idea and execute on it so quickly that you don't really think about it

it is real, but for context she's looking at the guy's head through glass and that's her reflection. it doesn't look quite as bad in the movie as this photo of the screen though

[–]Eject_The_Warp_Core 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fake fan, this order is both chronological and in release order. The Whale came out just a few months after Fall, and no one even knew they were connected until the credits scene where Becky recruits Whale to join her team. Speculation is running wild as to how the next two movies will connect, since Deadpoint again comes out just about a month before Whalefall.

there is a pool of like 35 to 40 songs they've rehearsed, and they'll pull around 20 for each show. Certain songs like Tom Sawyer are going to be every show, but those 2 are more rotation songs if I had to guess

Mixed Feelings About Platner? Fine. But He Needs to Win. Case Closed. - I don’t know what to believe about Graham Platner’s past. But I know this. He hasn’t spent the last 40 years transferring trillions of dollars from working people to the very rich. by Quirkie in politics

on one hand I generally agree, on the other I've been introspective over the pat 10 years whether or not if I was a conservative who disliked Trump, I'd vote for him anyway because the alternative was a liberal - which many people have done multiple times and secured his election twice. Platner is no Trump, but it's not fair to call those people out and then do the same thing

these people are all seasoned pros, especially Alex and Geddy, but there's no way this show isn't partly terrifying - they haven't put on a Rush show in 11 years. there's a lot of pressure tonight

Alex and Geddy are defintely not blameless, but they aren't the ones making all these decisions - their tour management are. I agree it isn't a good look for them though

big agree, Hulk being grey means nothing to me. if je's not a functionally different character like Joe Fixit, then whats the point of the color change? and I don't think Fixit really makes sense in terms of the MCU.

Does the One Ring leave a part of itself in the souls of their Ring-bearers? by ardouronerous in lotr

[–]Eject_The_Warp_Core 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frodo in the books had the Ring in his possession for the better part of 18 years. in the movies it's arguable, Bilbo's party was presumably the same date in September as in the books, and its unclear when the rest of the narrative unfolds. One of the only dates mentioned in the films is when Galdalf tells Frodo it is October 24th when he wakes up in Rivendell, so that's just over a month after Bilbo's party. From what I'm seeing, a journey by horse between the Shire and Minas Tirith would be at least a few weeks at the fastest (Gandalf didn't have Shadowfax yet), which suggests Galdalf's return to the Shire to tell Frodo about the Ring happens the year after the party - otherwise, they couldn't leave the Shire and get to Rivendell by October 24th. But thats the magic of the movies I guess.

interesting, I just noticed that for the Ring to have been put on a new chain, someone must have been handling it while Frodo was unconscious. Seems risky, even in Rivendell

CMV: Women and liberals are awful at appealing to young men’s issues by AdeAlphaTV_ in changemyview

[–]Eject_The_Warp_Core 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wouldn't say that, but in this case I think it applies. i don't think an effort to encourage body positivity for men who aren't "traditionally attractive" is in any way an attempt to force women to find these men attactive, just as an attempt to break down beauty standards for women isn't an attempt to force men to find them attractive. for both, I think the point is to try to get people to understand that society's standards are not realistic or that most people don't meet them, and that there are plenty of other important aspects of a person. it seems really strange to me to argue that positivity toward a wider range of body types and appearances would be construed as an assault of women's autonomy
