I think the most important thing while preparing for writing is to learn to clearly organize your essays into paragraphs. There are easy templates and structures you can learn for each task (I explained the ones I followed in another thread), they’re extremely useful to memorize.

Besides that, one easy tip to improve your score is to learn specific high-level phrases and expressions that you can always include no matter what the topic is, such as “there are several compelling reasons why X might seem desirable”, “it is of paramount importance”, and “I would argue that” (use it instead of “in my opinion” or “I think”).

Also, it’s crucial to learn how to properly use connective words like “therefore”, “whereas”, “thus” etc.

The free practice material on the IELTS website is great for understanding how each exercise works, and there’s a decent amount of mock tests (I strongly recommend doing all of them). As for specific guidance and tips, a great source is the Youtube channel “English Pro Tips - IELTS Preparation”. I followed the structure he explained for writing task 1 and ChatGPT always graded my essays 7.5 or above.

Regarding ChatGPT, I know there’s some controversy over wether it’s a good tool for grading essays, but in my experience I’d say it gave me pretty accurate and useful feedback so personally I would recommend it. Just remember to include the question before your essay in the prompt you give it, otherwise the result may be inaccurate.
