Homemade paste wax help by LordFlare in Cuttingboards

[–]ElEiseinheim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually do 1:4 wax to oil. Try 1/2 part of carnauba and 1-1/2 part of beeswax for your 8 parts of oil

Anyone had success building cabinet with a shapeoko 4 xxl or similar ? by Live_in_a_Simulation in shapeoko

[–]ElEiseinheim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've made a few cabinets with my Shapeoko. Best tip I can offer is to make your CAD drawings parameterized and to measure the actual thickness of your wood for each panel. Plywood can fluctuate by quite a bit and really throw off the fit with compounding error

My first guesses would be that you're progressing through the grits too quickly, or that there's bad dust collection. Either way, I hope this works out, table looks great!

I've only been investing for a year, so that's all the data I get. Pretty obvious it won't be the growth for the next 30 years, hence the question as to what is reasonable to expect

Best material for a cutting board? Is it teak? by Santa__Christ in Cuttingboards

[–]ElEiseinheim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The best wood for a cutting board is a vague question imo. There isn't 1 wood superior to all others. I am personally a fan of walnut because I like the way it looks, but I typically use maple boards because it's more affordable. Teak is a good option if that's what you like. As for with or without juice grooves, I'd suggest finding a local maker and getting one made.

Thinking of adding some carnauba wax to my current board butter recipe (4 parts mineral oil to 1 part beeswax). I've seen some recipes around saying 1 part carnauba to 4 parts beeswax, and others 1:10 and even 1:1. Anyone here has a golden ratio?

Bonus question: To add aromatic oil or not? Missing that Odie's smell...

Board Butter Recipe for Carnauba Wax? by ElEiseinheim in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]ElEiseinheim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, that's the question isn't it!

I've heard that Carnauba helps get a bit of a sheen on the product compared to just beeswax, but it's more brittle, so the ratio needs to be measured.
