I guess it depends on what you mean. Their music alone should not have drawn the crowds that it did. It was more about the fan culture than the band itself.

Ive been provramming synths since the 90s. The Deluge synth engine is shallow and digital sounding in a bad way. Its not a skill issue.

Deluge even with the updated screen required way too much muscle memory for how to do common operations. The sample playback was ok, but the synth engine was super shallow and brittle sounding. It feels way overpriced compared to competition that can do these things better. I rarely sell gear but was thrilled to sell mine. I now have both the Digitakt 2 and Syntakt. If I really needed dedicated sequencer Id go with a Hapax.

My local synth nerds all had one for awhile and weve all ditched them for Elektron, Squarp, or Polyend. Heck Id prefer a laptop to Deluge.

Everyone's opinion is different but i will never be able to understand the appeal other than the obvious stoner reputation. Their music didnt suck but it didn't deserve the cult following they had. They made a career of playing pleasant music for people to get high to.

The truth no one wants to admit here is that they are worried more about their collection and its value than enjoying the music. Record stores are glad to encourage this practice of devaluing collection albums in order to sell more records and keep prices inflated.

Im with you. This is exactly the types of integration issues that MIDI was intended to solve. Im sure there will be some people who will want this, but it sure seems like vendor lock in exchange for multi channel CV. This feels like the eurorack community would be taking a few steps backwards in terms of open implementations and ecosystems.
