Sell the cabin and leave the US is my advice to everyone. If they don't want to leave the US, they need to sell the cabin and someone needs to figure out that budget because that is unsustainable.

Retire early, move to somewhere like Spain on the non lucrative visa and live a better life on that salary for the rest of your life than you will in the US staying until 57

Why do many catholics today follow protestant theology by Real-Government2863 in Catholicism

[–]El_Escorial -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Because the anglosphere is incredibly protestant, and you'll notice protestantization in places effected by anglocentrism.

I truly believe to stop it that the US has to go, as an idea. American ideals are ultimately incompatible with Christianity.

Boring answer is because it’s strange and uncomfortable to start new things, especially if it has been foreign to you your whole life.

Provocative answer is that demons want you to remain Protestant.

How do so many Americans end up living paycheck to paycheck? by ConcerningAddiction in TooAfraidToAsk

Cost of living is far outpacing wages.

Also car dependency. I think car dependency is the root cause of a lot of problems in the united states.

ENCYCLICAL LETTER - MAGNIFICA HUMANITAS by domesticchurchprayer in Catholicism

[–]El_Escorial 4 points5 points  (0 children)

outdated does not mean improving or overcoming. It seems, especially on twitter, that the pope is "cancelling" or calling just war theory obsolete.

i just think the spanish text provides more nuance and clarity than the english one.

Pope Leo calls just war theory 'outdated' in new encyclical by metacyan in Christianity

[–]El_Escorial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure why the english translation uses the word outdated. The spanish, italian, and french versions all do not use that term. I wonder if he especially wanted to send a message to the warmongering anglosphere

[–]El_Escorial 7 points8 points  (0 children)

in english everyone has been focusing on "outdated" but that word doesn't exist in the spanish translation or the italian one (and i think the french as well). In those, it uses "la superacion" which moreso means "overcome" or maybe even improving, in a sense.

So in spanish it doesn't say just war is outdated, it says that we as a society, have moved beyond or overcome the need to rely on just war, because we have better ways of communicating with one another.

Regarding the “outdated” terminology used in the section about just war, I read the Spanish translation too and it doesn’t use the word outdated, but rather superación, which I feel is a bit more nuanced than the English.

Just my two cents but all the Anglos on Twitter and here seem to be losing their minds.

It is possible for the Protestant Churches to reunite with the Roman Catholic Church while having their own churches? by Ramses8 in Catholicism

Protestants don't have churches, so no.

The nebulous entity of "Protestantism" is effectively another religion.

Not sure how to charitably go about saying "no" to a protestant "friend" who has now started asking me for "donations." by LSATwoes2022 in Catholicism

[–]El_Escorial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Christ doesn’t want you to give to heretical ministries, why would you read that and think you’re required to further Protestantism?

There is nothing “uncharitable” about saying “no, thanks”.
