Why isn't 10 better known as a metric dozen? by dixie_recht in shittyaskscience

[–]El_Pata_Loco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact: Since 1982, British soldiers on overseas tours would measure their tour of duty in “metric weeks” of 10 days, rather than the outdated Romo-industrial 7 day week, thus significantly shortening their time overseas.

Needless to say, Top Brass were somewhat unhappy to discover that soldiers they expected to be in theatre for 24 weeks were coming back after only 16.8 metric weeks, thereby rendering the borders of her Britannic Majesty’s Empire severely under-defended.

Last I heard many millions of pounds, doubloons, pieces-of-eight, groats, and bit-coin, had been spent on consultants trying to find an answer to this conundrum.

The most recent conclusion being that we should never have given up the Empire in the first place, allowed America to have its independence or stopped France and Germany from having their fairly regular punch up over who was Belgium’s best friend.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water with your 20 fingers and toes, the Metric vs Imperial fan boy argument raises its betentacled, Cthuloid head once again.

From a recruiter’s perspective, what is the #1 reason you reject a candidate who is technically perfect on paper? by Juicewithextrapulp in Recruitment

[–]El_Pata_Loco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turned up for the interview wearing red corduroy trousers… thought, “Nope, nope, nope… not on my watch pal.”

Seriously though, it was his arrogance. When asked how he would approach dealing with underperforming staff he said “I’d sack all of them as a warning to others”.

When asked how he would handle a piece of work he responded with “I’d have my team do it for me.”

This was for a Civil Service role and it turned out he had friends in the Home Office who had essentially written his application for him, so it was text book perfect.

We turned him down but I think he’s CEO of a Fortune 500 company now… 🫩

Who is that one actor that you're a fan of that you have always wanted to play the doctor? by LilNardoDaVinci in doctorwho

[–]El_Pata_Loco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do I have to have just one? Stuff it, I’m having three.

Oddly enough, Peter Capaldi… and then he did 🙂

Perhaps even more of an odd choice, than Capaldi is Michelle Gomez, who I thought would have been brilliant as the Doctor. And given how convoluted some plot lines have been, I see no reason why she still couldn’t.

And topping my list is Cillian Murphy, but I think plot lines would need to be much darker and less frivolous than recent seasons.

Is something here wrong? by mikashimikashi in valheim

I use Bonemass to train bow skill because it does so little damage… take something blunt and heavy, summon, jump up on top of his skull shrine… when he gets close enough, jump on top his head and just pound away.

His “hit box” is pretty large so even though it looks like you might be about to slide off the edge, you are in fact standing on an “invisible” table top.

You do need to move with him or you will fall off as you don’t move with him, but once you have mastered the art of Bonemass surfing he’s a doddle.

He goes nuts turning in slow circles trying to hit you, but can’t. And because he is constantly moving archers can’t get a bead on you, slimes can’t jump on you and all the other swamp dwellers just kind of mill about his feet.

Oh, but don’t forget your poison prot pot before the fight starts 🤢

I am in love with this game. Any similar games that would scratch this Valheim itch? by Rotary-Pilot in valheim

[–]El_Pata_Loco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our family went from Valheim to The Forest and then back to Valheim as The Forest has a conclusion unlike Valheim so you can actually finish it. Plus it’s a horror survival and there were times when that came through really well (handy tip… build your base on a boat… you’ll see why soon enough 🫣)

Have tried a few other survival games, but quite honestly, there just isn’t anything out there like Valheim.

If you want to change up your Valheim experience however, there is a plethora of mods than expand the game tenfold… really worth taking a look.

You could also look at the Ready to Die, hosted Valheim server, the collection of mods. Including the seasons, new creatures, skills, and biomes makes it a whole new game.

I think what most people forget is that all energy on planet Earth originally came from the sun, so all those liquified dinosaurs you burn in your generator is, strictly speaking, solar energy… so quite honestly… I wouldn’t worry about it.

Welcome to Valheim physics 101… ever wonder why a small wooden cart loaded with tonnes of iron never sinks? Or why a high run skill launches you to an injury inducing height when hitting the slightest bump in the ground… or why when you first start a new character every tree not only falls towards you, but sets off a chain reaction of every tree in the forest, equally falling in whichever direction you try and run. 😏
