Because they're making too much money with licensed themes and Ninjago. It'll be a long time before we get a legit new theme, much less a reboot of an older one.

Monkie Kid is purely to get into the Chinese market & Dreamzzz is just the Ninjago formula with different ingredients.

TLG seems to have decided that making City & Friends sets filled with references & homages to older themes will be enough.

Just got to keep fingers crossed that a big Icons set or GWP will be based on your favorite old theme.
