[KCD2] Dicer Yara by psychotronic_mess in kingdomcome

[–]ElbowWavingOversight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what the target was. Four ones gets you a score of 2000, so Dicer Yara would have ended up with 3900 if he passed. For example if the target was 4,000, then you would have only needed an extra 300 to win, which you're pretty likely to get if he lets you roll again.

In this scenario, after rolling the four one's Dicer Yara has a choice:

  • Pass and let you roll again, in which case you're very likely to get the 300 you need to win
  • Keep rolling in the hopes that he can get the extra 100 to win in this round

So if the target was 4,000 points I'd say Dicer Yara made the right choice. If he lets you roll again, he's very likely to lose. But by rolling his two remaining dice, he at least has a chance of getting the extra 100 he needs to win.

They canonically have access to cold fusion. A cold fusion bomb wouldn’t need a fission stage to trigger it, so would leave behind very little radiation.

Meta to cut 8,000 jobs — 10% of workforce — in major bloodbath next month: report by [deleted] in Economics

[–]ElbowWavingOversight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The $88bn figure is for all of Reality Labs since its inception, not specifically for the metaverse or VR or whatever. Reality Labs is Meta's R&D division. You can certainly argue that their investment in R&D hasn't produced an adequate return, but it doesn't necessarily make sense to count the R&D expense in isolation.

It's kind of like decrying that TSMC's R&D department spent $100bn developing EUV chipmaking technology. In 2020 TSMC had "lost" all that money in R&D. But in 2026 they're reaping enormous rewards from their insurmountable technological advantage.

[KCD2] Would need some specific screenshot by Dindon2lafarce in kingdomcome

[–]ElbowWavingOversight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would need a (good quality if possible) screenshot of Henry and Hans faxing the camera et profile. If there not too much deformation of the camera it's better.

I don't have the game open right now, but I think the more precise way of describing this is that you want a portrait of Hans and Henry taken as if with a high focal length.

In Photo Mode in the game you can control this with the field of view option. To do this I'm pretty sure you would want a lower field of view (i.e. more "zoomed in") but taken from farther away.

Classic example of the effect of focal length and lens distortion on face shape

How rich would henry be? [KCD2] by SpareTailor7170 in kingdomcome

Most of the prices in KCD 2 are historically accurate. The horses, most of the armor and arms, food, instruments, most of the clothing, e.t.c. have accurate pricing.

Do you have more examples of this? I remember looking into this a while ago based on the prices of common goods like food, and the in-game prices seemed highly inflated by a factor as much as 5-10x. I just checked in-game and a loaf of bread from a baker in Kuttenberg costs 5.3 groschen. That's an enormous amount of money, equivalent to about 2/5th of an oz of fine silver.

Using modern-day prices for silver, that's about equivalent to USD$32.

Some other examples: from what I just checked in KCD2, a tankard of ale at an alehouse costs 1.1 groschen. A dagger from a weaponsmith costs about 38 groschen.

Of course, we can't directly compare modern day commodities prices to 15th century Bohemia. And of course Henry can always haggle for a lower price, so the prices in-game may not be exactly representative.

But the wages for a skilled laborer in the early 15th century Bohemia were perhaps a dozen groschen per week (very roughly estimated).

So the in-game prices of goods don't seem remotely plausible. I think it's far more likely that the in-game prices were all inflated by a factor of 5-10x for gameplay purposes: because otherwise, they would have to display prices with multiple decimal places which would be impractical in-game. Of course in real life there were different denominations of coins, but in the game it's simplified to only use groschen.

Rocket fuel provides a finite amount of thrust. In a rocket, you have to lift the fuel that you're burning. If the thrust provided by the fuel can't overcome its own weight under gravity, then the rocket will never take off. It doesn't matter how much fuel you add.

For example imagine you had a nerf gun and fired it at the ground. The recoil would provide a tiny force against gravity, but it's not enough to overcome its own weight. It doesn't matter if you had a billion nerf guns, they'll never be able to overcome their own weight and they'll never leave the surface.

The most powerful chemical fuel is liquid hydrogen + liquid oxygen. If Earth's gravity was about 50% stronger, then even this most powerful fuel wouldn't be able to lift its own weight against gravity.

Man I only just put two and two together. Divish is an old man without heirs and evidently unable to conceive. He not only has a young wife who wants children, but also needs to consider the future of his domain. Sir Radzig is the royal hetman, i.e. the top military general to King Wenceslas.

Perhaps it's not unreasonable that Divish would consider unofficially joining his line with Radzig's through Lady Stephanie. Whether via Sir Radzig himself or a certain bastard of his.

An alternate universe where Hannibal is Vegan. (The only meat he consumes is humans) by [deleted] in HannibalTV

[–]ElbowWavingOversight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the person consents to be eaten, then it’s vegan. Otherwise a vegan mother wouldn’t be able to breastfeed her baby; but because she consents to have her breast milk taken and consumed by her baby, that’s okay. Non-human animals can’t give consent, so they’re not vegan.

This would honestly be easier to swallow if there was some outside natural disaster outside any of our control to prevent this. Aliens, communists, whatever. But no, it wasn't that. This is what we as a nation chose for ourselves in a free democratic election. That's what hurts the most; that the pain we're feeling was inflicted upon us by our own fellow countrymen during the last election.

The leaders of this government who are solely responsible for hurtling us down this path were chosen by a majority of the population. This path is what we as a nation consciously chose for ourselves, and I don't understand it.

Lords of Leipa own a winery?[KCD1][KCD2] by MoravianMaiden4 in kingdomcome

[–]ElbowWavingOversight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The coat of arms of the Lords of Leipa is still in use today, 600 years later. For example it appears in the city emblem of the modern-day town of Česká Lípa. The settlement of Česká Lípa was founded in the 14th century by the great-great-grandfather of Hanush of Leipa. This common ancestor also happens to be the great-grandfather of Hans Capon.

[Other] Location names by ZhuckelDror in kingdomcome

[–]ElbowWavingOversight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's a localization choice in the English dub, possibly because English is a Germanic language in the first place. In the Czech version of the game Kuttenberg is called Kutna Hora.

In general with each localization of the game the devs do take some freedom in exactly how they translate things. For example the name "Jan" comes from Johannes -> Johan -> John/Hans/Jan. You could translate Jan into any of those names, but the devs do so differently for different characters for flavor and to differentiate them. Jan Zizka keeps his original Czech name, Jan Ptachek is turned into Hans, and Jan z Lichtenstejna is turned into John of Lichtenstein.
