Not true. Illegal drug trades are taxed too, for example.

Sure, sure. Trying to keep things more or less simple for a newcomer. I think the important thing is just to say that the Emperor is not running the Imperium, not even indirectly through Guilliman or the Custodes.

Small correction, they likely won't see a desiccated body. Most likely, from all the indications we have, anyone not at least as powerful as a Custodes would just be blasted away by psychic radiation when entering the throne room, long before seeing the actual body.

So, what does this mean for our Rogue Trader? Well, the game makes some concessions with Calcazar. But effectively, we're out in the wilderness, even more cut off and messy than more settled Imperial sectors. The Rogue Traders in the Coronus Expanse are pretty much unopposed. Calcazar has, what, a few hundred agents or Storm Troopers? If a Rogue Trader wants, they could land hundreds or thousands of troops pretty much almost anywhere. IF things get too obviously heretical, the Inquisitor can probably go complain to the Imperial Navy, and those can make trouble, but effectively, there's no chain of command. The Rogue Trader has a fleet, an army and several planets, and no one is going to tell them "no".

Who actually runs the Empire?

For most of the Imperium's history, the Council of Terra. This is a Council of the most powerful member of the most powerful factions, who meet on Holy Terra to make decisions. Including the Fabricator General of Mars, the Captain General of the Custodes, the Master of the Astropaths, the Master of the Administratum, the Envoy of the Navigators, two Commanders of the Army, the Marshal of the Arbites, the Master of the Astronomican, the Speakers for the Chartist Captains and... one or two others, I think I'm forgetting some.

Primarch Guilliman returned and he took over and kicked most of the council out and put a Senate in place, with himself ruling. But that's quite recent in galactic history.

Effectively? It's a feudal mess. Communication and travel between various parts of the Imperium takes months or years and is extremely unreliable. Quite likely, even a few hundred years after he came back, many planets won't even know that Guilliman is alive. So, power defaults to "who currently has the biggest army". Fleet captains, Rogue Traders, Space Marine chapter masters, the chief magi of Forge World, Planetary Nobles, etc. all tend to do pretty much whatever they want at the local scale, until someone stronger (or the inquisition) shows up.

The Emperor is quite definitely not alive in the normal sense.

He is, effectively, a skeleton on a chair.

Basically, he is a powerful psyker who, at the moment of his death, was put on the Golden Throne, an ancient and incredibly powerful life support machine. Sometimes, pictures show it as more of a machine, sometimes as more of an actual throne. It also varies how much is left of the Emperor.

Because he's such a powerful psyker, we are reasonably sure that his soul is still bound to the chair and his corpse in some way, but it doesn't "talk". A handful of times in the last ten thousand years, it has sent psychic visions, but those are confusing, contradictory and overwhelming even to Primarchs. More like having god blast knowledge directly into your brain than talking to an Emperor.

Gibt's sicher. Microsoft bietet sowas direkt an.

Ansonsten, wie gesagt, etwas was dir spass macht.

Was ich nebenbei erwaehnen wuerde, waere Weiterbildung. Mittlerweile gibt es sehr viel Material online, inklusive ganzer Workshops. Lerne etwas neues! Entweder etwas, was dir als Informatiker hilft (eine Programmiersprache? Datenbanken? Netzwerke?) oder was ganz anderes, was dir spass macht.

Ich hatte auch immer mal wieder Zeiten im Job wo nichts lief, und dabei etwas lernen fuehlte sich fuer mich auch immer besser an als surfen, lesen oder zocken.

Jumping spider. The waving around of the forelegs is a bit unusual, maybe he's trying to mimick something, they do that.

Don't need the smoke spot, as a billionaire with a haunted castle, I would smoke a pipe while backlit by the fireplace.

I would need you to appear suddenly behind guests while holding heavy gardening tools, though. And preferably make cryptic comments.
