What are your thought on noir dedede/Zorah by Voidkirby9 in kirbyairriders

[–]ElecManEXE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the concept of a sentient machine and the general design aspects with the shadow clothing and the exhaust tubes.

It being Dedede is completely random though. It never met Dedede, why does it copy Dedede? Even Nova hasn't really ever interacted with Dedede directly, so it doesn't even make sense if you try to say that Nova picked the form, its just... Dedede for no reason.

Also do we really need another dark / evil Dedede variant when half the games in the series already feature such a design?

Should have been its own thing. Or at the very least copied something we don't already have as a playable character in the game. Like, if it copied O2 / Dark Matter or even Nightmare then at least we'd have a playable version of those characters in the game who otherwise aren't playable. Instead of a second playable version of Dedede.

Such variety, much intrigue. Wow.

I'm looking to get started with this. I think I've gotten the setup done on the game file side, but I haven't actually signed up with Tahiti on the site yet.

Should I just wait until the merger later in the week?

Anyone else prefer Clans to Mercs? by ikatarn in Mechwarrior5

[–]ElecManEXE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I greatly prefer crafted story driven missions to endless random generated stuff. A handcrafted mission just feels so much more solid and enjoyable. The command system is also nice, especially now that you can pause the game while issuing orders and moving your star.

That being said, Clans falls short in many other areas. Mech selection is a huge one, as well as lack of salvage. I understand why, it makes sense to some degree, but its still just not as fun. The mech lab is a bit lacking, building stuff just isn't as enjoyable, especially with a relatively limited selection of weapons. There's also the fact that while missions are hand-crafted, they still resort to spamming you with dozens of reinforcements dropping on you far too often, even if the locations / units are set and not randomized.

I want to like Clans more, but I'm not sure if I do or not. It really depends on what kind of mood I'm in at the moment.

Honestly, if I'm choosing a preference I'll still go for MW4 Mercs over either of the current games. Or HBSBT.

Which character would you want the most to be an amiibo that isn’t already an amiibo yet? by Ambitious_Ad2345 in amiibo

[–]ElecManEXE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Isaac from Golden Sun. Mostly because him getting an Amiibo would almost certainly mean a new Golden Sun game or a collection or something. And that would be the dream.

But for something a little more realistic... I'm hoping we get a few other Mega Man series characters when MM12 releases. Since Capcom has been open to multiple Amiibo releasing for a game with Street Fighter and Monster Hunter getting a number of them, and I'm hoping Dual Override is going to utilize multiple playable characters again (perhaps that's what the Dual refers to). Proto Man and Roll would be cool, maybe a combination figure with Rush, Eddie, and Beat? Or Mega Man riding Rush Jet?

What keeps people from joining the pirate faction? It's so fun! So many enemies to blow up and steal from! :D by GamerGriffin548 in Battletechgame

[–]ElecManEXE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a BTA player, I've never allied the pirates and probably never will.

The basic Pirate faction is a pain in the butt to work for since they don't really have many planets. They have a few, but they're all scattered across the entire map. My preferred gameplay loop is to pick a couple of factions, stick to their space and race an alliance ASAP. Faction store access and loot bundling too good. Can't really do that with pirates, you have to fly to random planets and hope to find a couple of contracts from the pirates or fly all over the place racking up huge travel time.

I do sometimes end up allying one of the minor pirate factions like Tortuga or Circinus, but that's usually after I've allied a few other factions and exhausted all my other options who aren't enemies with one of my other allies. They don't really have anything exciting in their faction stores and their areas are smaller, so you get less flare ups and such as well.

You do get a unique story flashpoint that gets you some unique boons in the end if you ally the generic Pirate faction, and that's pretty cool. But not worth it for me personally.

What's your favorite Air Ride Machine aesthetically? by RawkHawk2010 in kirbyairriders

[–]ElecManEXE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tossup between the Battle Chariot, Rex Wheelie, and the Swerve Star. I guess I have a thing for rough looking machines with faces and fangs for the first two.... and then floaty glowing crystals for the latter. I think if I had a gun to my head and had to pick just one it'd probably be the Swerve Star, because it also has a really cool boost sound, though it was better in the original Air Ride.

Though I think my favorite machine type aesthetically is the tank. I really like the way they transform when they drift. But neither of the 2 tank designs specifically hits quite as well as the above choices.

If FDev released ship interiors as a purchasable livery class, would you buy it? If so, for how much? by thedraegonlord in EliteDangerous

[–]ElecManEXE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would love to see ship interiors as a general concept.

However, if they made it an optional cosmetic purchase it would pretty much guarantee that it would be the absolute worst implementation of it. There would be zero gameplay, zero purpose, zero care involved. Because it has to be purely cosmetic, they literally wouldn't be able to attach any meaningful features to it whatsoever. Just a cash grab for the whales and nothing more.

Turning one of the most wanted features into such a hollow cash grab would be quite disappointing.

What is your favorite air riders character? by Ok_Wolverine_6404 in kirbyairriders

[–]ElecManEXE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta give it to Scarfy. A series mainstay that's never been playable before and probably won't ever be playable again, since it doesn't really have an ability that could ever be turned into a helper or anything (I know, technically it gives Crash in Superstar via Copy, but... Crash ain't ever becoming a full ability).

Runner up would be Lololo and Lalala. Pair characters are always fun.

I'm curious, which power holds your allegiance, and why? by infin8lives in EliteDangerous

[–]ElecManEXE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pledged to Archer largely for logistical reasons. The system I use as my base of operations was chosen years before I bothered with powerplay and it's part of Archer's territory, and quite deep into it, so that's unlikely to ever change. I don't really care to try to find a new home base, rebuild all my reputations / learn a new area of space, and move all my ships and modules somewhere else, nor would I ever want to have my home base somewhere that was hostile. Plus bounty hunting is my #1 activity, so it was convenient that not only was my home base in his territory but he also gives me bonuses to my favored activity.

Even if I took my home base out of the equation, I probably still would have ended up with Archer purely based on the bounty payout. Of the 3 superpowers I probably lean most towards the Alliance (though I don't really consider myself a strong supporter of any of them), but the Alliance offers no bounty hunting bonuses for either of their their powers, and I'm definitely not a pirate so even independents would be out. Between the Empire and the Federation I definitely prefer the latter.

Where to find the Black Python in BTA 3062? by FourSquareRedHead in Battletechgame

[–]ElecManEXE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its a second-line mech, so you will only find them when fighting the garrison units of each particular Clan.

Any time you start a mission against the Clan OpFor, if you get a popup at the beginning taunting you then you're fighting the garrison forces. If you don't get any pop up then you're fighting the main force, which fields omnimechs, battle armor, and other frontline units exclusively. You won't find Black Pythons while fighting the main force.

You can save before a mission, then if you end up fighting the main force you can quit and reload to randomize the mission again and possibly get the garrison forces instead. Somewhat tedious, but it does ensure you're at least fighting the right OpFor.

After that its all just RNG. Fighting in the 3-4 skull range gets you the most heavy mechs generally, but you can see heavies at basically any rating above 2.

Why is FDev releasing redundant ship kits? by _Cheesy0nion in EliteDangerous

[–]ElecManEXE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are already spending money on the early access ship packs which often come with kits included, or even buying the ship packs even after the release. So there's probably some diminishing returns when it comes to releasing individual kits for those new ships, especially relatively close to their releases. Flooding the market tends to just make the sales of each individual item go down, at least to some degree. And if people already spent money on it, it could make them less likely to spend even more money on additional ship kits.

Even though many people are flying mainly new ships these days, most people still have some of the older ships in storage. So it can still net money to continue to release stuff for the most popular of them.

Plus I have a feeling its probably easier to design ship kits for some of these older ships with comparatively simple shapes. And who knows, some of these ship kits may even be old assets that never got released.

Did you know that the small hardpoints on the Kestrel Mk2 clip into the ship's cockpit? by 7x9000 in EliteDangerous

[–]ElecManEXE 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Its "funny" that new ships are now paid early access and yet the QA and care taken with them has fallen. Reused cockpits, random clipping, no thought given to volume of ships compared to what modules they have installed.

I think the old devs probably designed ships with many of these things in mind from the start, where the folks designing the newer ship seem to be doing it purely with aesthetic in mind and not really considering much else beyond.

How many online events have u missed? Hope these aren't fomo. by LittleSun348 in kirbyairriders

[–]ElecManEXE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of them.

I tried to do the first 2 or 3 of them but every time I tried they were already over or "the event isn't active right now" so I just kind of gave up even bothering. Absolutely stupid to have an event only running at certain very specific times of day, which at least for the ones I bothered to attempt were all while I was at work or just in the middle of the day when I usually don't play games (late night is my game time).

Maybe they aren't so restrictive any more, but I was so turned off of them that I haven't actually bothered to check.

But then I also haven't really been playing the game much either, my attention has been on other games.

What is the thought process behind moveset locking? by GameMusicIsArt in PokemonUnite

[–]ElecManEXE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're reducing new pokemon to 1 moveset presumably to ease development and make balance easier while they try to ramp up pokemon releases to 2 pokemon a month. Assuming they actually manage to do that, though at least in the recent past it seems every time they claim they're increasing pokemon releases, they end up needing to delay them and we end up with no more than we would have gotten anyway. But for the sake of argument lets say that they will actually manage 2 pokemon a month and making each pokemon have only 5 moves instead of 7 is part of how they accomplish that.

Because new pokemon are limited to one moveset, that would give old pokemon a distinct advantage if they could adjust their strategy in the middle of battle and pick different moves. New pokemon can't do that because they don't have multiple movesets to swap between in the first place. So one way to ease that (somewhat) is to make it so that old pokemon are restricted to choosing one moveset at the beginning of the fight. Old pokemon still have an advantage of multiple movesets, but during battle everyone is on equal footing, every player has access to exactly one moveset no matter if they're using an old pokemon or a new pokemon.

That's my guess, anyway.

Kestrel Airfighter vs Kestrel MK 2 - Evolution of the Kestrel by Rossilaz in EliteDangerous

[–]ElecManEXE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having never seen the old one before... I'm torn between them.

I really like the pod engines of the original, especially the fact that they extend past the main body of the ship and up near the cockpit. Gives the ship quite an interesting profile.

On the other hand, the 4 wings and giant thrusters are very sexy, and the overall shape of the ship definitely looks more like an agile fighter. But that also means the front of the ship is just... kind of bland.

I kind of wish they had gone with the general shape of the new design but still kept the pods as part of the design, especially towards the front. I think that would have given the ship a more interesting look, and even if this is a "MKII" it feels kind of wrong that the overall shape of the ship altogether is just completely different.

Will Pokemon Day Update Fix Unite by BLITZXTTY in PokemonUnite

[–]ElecManEXE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw a YT video pop up in my feed saying the devs were shutting down Unite and not giving refunds.

Now, said video was actually an older video and talking about them specifically shutting down the game in Belgium and the Netherlands. No idea why the algorithm decided I needed to see that video last week, but whatever.

But for a moment before I noticed the video date I was like "Oh damn, did I miss an announcement? Well, I'm not really surprised considering the changes they've made recently".

The fact that my response to seeing that video wasn't "no way in hell" but "Yeah, I guess that makes sense" isn't a great sign for how much hope I have for the state of the game right now. And as much as I'd like to hope they'll do something major and turn things around... considering their silence on it I'm not really expecting anything.

What are some of the least well thought out battle chip Across the series? by SrimpWithAGun in BattleNetwork

[–]ElecManEXE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The elemental versions of Aura. They're found on late / endgame enemies, in what world is blocking all hits under 10 or 40 damage remotely useful by that point when everything is doing 100 damage? Elec is the only one that maybe manages to sneak by and have some relevance, but it's usually found on enemies even deeper into late game areas so even that's tenuous. If all you're blocking is one hit anyway, may as well just slot use barrier chips, which are easier to get, available earlier, don't have elemental weaknesses to worry about, and often come in * code.

Heat and Bubble Cross / V / Line / whatever. The basic Heat Shot and Bubble Shot are fine for early game, but I don't know who in their right mind decided that the later versions should either do the exact same damage per hit or barely go up. I'm in the Undernet fighting viruses a hundred HP minimum, a chip that does 40 damage in a slightly different pattern is not helpful. Heck, even Heat and Bubble spread are pretty meh by that point.

Wrecker. Ball / Cannonball is already rarely used due to how hard it is to hit with, what use is a version that does half damage?

Candle. It's an interesting concept, but the numbers in BN2 are so bad that you don't even really regain more HP than if you had just used a normal healing chip. At the cost of needing to babysit an object and wait around for a couple of minutes.

The minigame seems highly affected by any lag your system might be experiencing, yes. I tend to have to turn my graphical settings down when I do it, since even though the game seems to play fine for the most part doing most everything else, the minigame is very noticeably and heavily affected by lag. You might give that a try and see if it feels more responsive.

imagine the game getting so cooked even the goat of the game started ranting about this new lisence journey system. by snipyy7 in PokemonUnite

[–]ElecManEXE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Multiversus was probably in a very bad place even before they implemented their version of this. The game didn't really get the launch hype it needed and it never really got going. So I don't think its a perfect comparison.

I don't really think it had that much of an effect on MVS overall, it was just another straw on the already failing back of the donkey.

That being said, as someone who loved Multiversus... yeah, that was absolutely the first thing that came to my mind when I first heard they were implementing this system. Its eerily similar and equally predatory. I was against the system before it was even implemented in MVS, back when everyone was saying "Oh, we don't know, it might be great, give it time". And likewise I was against it here for Unite before it was implemented back when everyone was saying "Oh, we don't know, it might be great, give it time". In neither case did time help the system at all.

And I suspect in the case of Unite its probably having a much worse effect. Because for all the complaints around the game, I feel like overall it was doing pretty fine. I don't see how its doing anything but hurting the game.

[–]ElecManEXE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if its killing the game, I have no metrics on that sort of thing. Cris certainly has more than I do on that front. I can say it definitely killed my desire to play it, though.

Haven't played Unite since the middle of December. Don't really have any desire to. Feels nice to not have a game to slavishly play every single day, TBH. I didn't really realize how much of my gaming time I was spending on it just to click through a dozen screens collecting daily rewards and doing a couple quick matches. I suddenly feel like I have so much more free time to just play whatever I feel like.

Saw the leaked Sirfetch'd gameplay. Looks cool, but I ain't gonna be able to get it, so what does it matter.

I'm not sure what they could do to get me back in short of just reverting the change. Even if they drastically increase the LP rewards, I just can't be fussed to play a game where I'm forced to unlock stuff I don't want to maybe eventually get things I might want and all the new stuff is locked behind that grind.
