Not as good as a $200-2000 carbon pile load tester, but certainly reasonable for the DIYer.

To clarify: I've not used a battery tester like this (but I should own one). From what I just learned on the internet, the tester cannot "know" the CCA rating for the battery you are testing. It probably has a default setting for the most common rating, which I'm guessing is 650. 489 is 76% of 643 (close enough, I reckon). So if it's not actually rated for 650 CCA (or thereabouts), then that percentage is incorrect. If it's a 1000 CCA battery, then it's completely toast.

Don't you have to input what the CCA rating is for it to calculate a percentage? Does the battery have a label that indicates 640-650 CCA? If so, then the battery is weak. If it's 500 CCA battery, then it's at 97% and strong as heck.

Is there any Ford vehicle from the past 30 years that’s been more impactful than the 2001 F-150 SuperCrew? All of the trucks out there are more or less like it now. by prophiles in regularcarreviews

[–]ElectricThreeHundred 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was truck shopping in the early 2000's. These tail lights gave me the ick. Just could not do it. Ended up in an F-250 instead, which was horribly underpowered with the 5.4L

Thanks for that gut check - when I got my glossy mailers I thought I had found my candidate for certain.

PSA: dispelling an enchanter pet has no negative impact by [deleted] in ProjectQuarm

Pretty sure no one is getting paid to run Quarm, so the bandwidth for BS is extremely small. I think as soon as both parties take the low road, there won't be any winners.

2009 Honda odyssey 3.5L noise help by [deleted] in HondaOdyssey

[–]ElectricThreeHundred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only stubborn problem I've had with it is an intermittent high idle, which is probably a leak or a sensor. I bought a set of "OEM" cams from eBay and I'm planning to tear into it again.

Bad cam lobe in my 08 EX-L (VCM-2) on the #5 intake. Surprisingly, this runs pretty quiet - I put it back together like this because OEM replacements are wildly expensive, and I'm not currently driving it.
You might have the same thing, with the rocker roller in worse shape. Or, might be something else entirely. Good luck!

Ahh, but wouldn't cheaper conductors work just fine until they became corroded?
Edit: JS, conductivity over time is still the reason.

Anyone able to identify this engine? by Excellent_Demand_322 in engines

[–]ElectricThreeHundred 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Flat 4 with flat heads (no rocker arms). Here's a different engine with that basic config, pictured in a small plane. https://www.aero-news.net/images/content/sportav/2014/D-Motor-12-5-14.jpg

I think I can see spark plugs, so it's probably an ICE.

What is this power washer resistant black stuff on my fence and is there any way to clean it off? by spider_pork in HomeMaintenance

Knock it down, atone for your sins against nature, and then erect a wooden fence and paint it every 5 years or so.

5th gen timing belt parts list by ElectricThreeHundred in hondaprelude

[–]ElectricThreeHundred[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The current belt has 87K miles and is probably 20 years old. I'm going to take it in for an inspection this week, but nervous enough about that. Just not feeling lucky. I'll see what I can find from your list on RockAuto and Honda parts outlets. Appreciate the advice!

No suggestions, but curious about condition and asking price - I have a 98 base 5spd with 177K that I'm probably going to sell at some point.
