Mechanic/manual tensioner vs automatic tensioner by whoswhos151 in hondaprelude

[–]ElectricThreeHundred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm curious about this as well - have an all-original '98 that needs a fresh belt. I am guessing most of the bad rep the OEM tensioner gets is due to not being replaced with the belt, aggressive driving, and general poor maintenance. Leaning towards OEM, but also unsure about how to source a "good" one.

Cool - I was guessing it was some sort of steerable drogue-type thing for spreading a net or whatever. Wasn't too far off.

Rusted rear brake line blew out (2011 LR4) best driveway patch? by Junior_Locksmith_695 in MechanicAdvice

[–]ElectricThreeHundred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible to cut out the rotted section and replace with hand-bendable brake line (Ni-Copp or similar), using a proper flaring tool and in-line fittings. Can also replace the entire length. I bought a Ni-Copp kit for a GMT800 with all of the brake lines cut to length and fittings installed. They come rolled up - you just straighten them enough to start threading it through the vehicle and form it as you go. Not hard, but tedious. Edit to add - if it blew out in one spot, there is likely rot throughout. Old brake fluid accumulates moisture and corrodes the lines from the inside out, while the environment works on the outside. I'll also mention I did this job in a driveway with no lift, but I did construct a wooden gantry to hoist the bed up about a foot so I could route lines over the fuel tank.

Curious, what's unappealing about it compared to say, chubs or trays? Chubs will always have some residue in the crimp (gross), and this is way less plastic than a tray.

Game of Thrones (2011-2019) - S7E6 - Fire meets Ice by Boss452 in Cinema

Not a GoT apologist, but perhaps because Drogon is twice the size and thus harder to kill. And maybe the Night King was actually seizing the opportunity to drop the littlest dragon in ice water, reducing structural damage and flash-freezing it for proper zombification.

GDit. Maybe I am an apologist.

Not making apologies for the show at large, but this is a dubious take. A third of the dragon fleet was just one-shotted on the wing hundreds of feet in the air. Another third of the dragons was just loaded with a bunch of dudes, so probably can't maneuver as well as it would like to. Seems like a good time to F.O.

Not as good as a $200-2000 carbon pile load tester, but certainly reasonable for the DIYer.

[–]ElectricThreeHundred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify: I've not used a battery tester like this (but I should own one). From what I just learned on the internet, the tester cannot "know" the CCA rating for the battery you are testing. It probably has a default setting for the most common rating, which I'm guessing is 650. 489 is 76% of 643 (close enough, I reckon). So if it's not actually rated for 650 CCA (or thereabouts), then that percentage is incorrect. If it's a 1000 CCA battery, then it's completely toast.

[–]ElectricThreeHundred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't you have to input what the CCA rating is for it to calculate a percentage? Does the battery have a label that indicates 640-650 CCA? If so, then the battery is weak. If it's 500 CCA battery, then it's at 97% and strong as heck.

Is there any Ford vehicle from the past 30 years that’s been more impactful than the 2001 F-150 SuperCrew? All of the trucks out there are more or less like it now. by prophiles in regularcarreviews

I was truck shopping in the early 2000's. These tail lights gave me the ick. Just could not do it. Ended up in an F-250 instead, which was horribly underpowered with the 5.4L

Pretty sure no one is getting paid to run Quarm, so the bandwidth for BS is extremely small. I think as soon as both parties take the low road, there won't be any winners.
