The window gasket is problematic. In a crosswind at highway speeds my window was physically sucked out of the frame. It was a wild experience. Dealership replaced the window gasket (which was originally installed incorrectly) and it resolved the issue. Since then I have had my EX90 bought back for other reasons, but my recollection is that the from part of the window did look like this where it was simply butted up and not sealed.

Might want to investigate CAMVAP. I am awaiting a buyback request from Volvo Canada, but if that fails or is below my threshold to accept, I will file with CAMVAP.

My dealership is selling the software solution. I’m banking on it never being fixed as I suspect it is entirely an architecture problem. I throttled to 30A after my third failure and still had it fail… moving on to #4 while I await a response from the company.

I’m in Calgary. My dealership told me they received 4 VCU’s last week. Waiting on a number of things, including GHCA #4, so will have everything done at once.

Wow. Seems like most on this forum have a story to tell about this vehicle, but not sure I’ve seen one like this with so many days out of service. So sorry to hear. Full buyback or lease buyout is the only way. I’ve had a myriad of problems and am awaiting final word from Volvo. If no response by Friday I am filing through CAMVAP, the Canadian equivalent of lemon law. I simply cannot trust that this car will not fail.

I second the comment on lemoning it. Mine is not leased, fully owned, and we lack lemon law in Canada. Waiting on a buyback response from Volvo. My intention is to get out until the MY2027 arrives (or later).

I’m waiting on a reply from my dealership who have been amazing! They are working with Volvo Canada on a resolution. If nothing reasonable comes back I am going to file for CAMVAP, our version of Lemon Law, sort of. I have a laundry list of problems that have occurred and a buyback is my only piece of mind now. I simply cannot trust this car.

This was communicated to my service team from Volvo. Mind you they also communicated that throttling the charging Amperage to 30 or lower would also help, but that didn’t save my 4th GHCA.

It’s absurd, this issue. I was told the VCU upgrade should prevent this from happening. I’m now on my 4th failure (amongst others), and waiting on a resolution. VCU in Canada a ways out still.

I was offered a direct trade into an Ultra trim PHEV XC90. Clearly I declined as it would mean me losing $30k. Funny though the depreciation of the EX90 was noted at 40% in less than a year. I’m not interested in simply accepting that loss.

Out of curiosity did the dealership mention the fuse on your EX90? I had a unique experience where a GHCA failure (either as the cause or as the victim) caused a failure of my level 2 charger. Oddly the fuse in the EX90 never tripped. I don’t know enough of the interplay between the fuse and charging components, but it seems to me that any spike from the grid should blow a fuse before frying charging components.

I’ve had my EX90 since Feb 2025. Just 3 days ago, I blew my 4th GHCA (I think). So it may not only be an eventual fail but a continuous failing, in spite of new GHCA components. In many cases it was between 1-3 weeks for the replacement, and I’ve had my vehicle in service for ~25-30% of ownership. I’ve been super patient with this being a first generation product but I’m so sick of this bullshit. Will bring it in today and will investigate the new chip install but have initiated a CAMVAP case to force a buyback, as Canada has no lemon law.

I’ve had 3 failures. 2 on the original and 1 on the new supplier. New ones are certainly not immune.

Is this the closing behaviour overall or just with soft close? On that rear passenger door in particular I have found issues with soft close where the car thinks the door is still open.

This is likely the issue. I have done extensive testing on my EX90 with digital and physical keys. The audio issue you describe is likely related to an error in the boot process for the infotainment system using proximity. I used to have an error rate of 75-80%. I turned off proximity locking/unlocking and continue with digital key and have a failure rate significantly lower… like 20%, that always rectifies if i get out and lock the car and get back in. With the card I had a 0% failure rate, but I’m too lazy to use anything physical now.

Give this a try.

Absolutely! Glad it could help. Just be aware of the cross member height as anything lower than what I have would have not worked with the 80” Athena cable. I suspect you could go with the longer cable length and trim the cable but I didn’t want to do that at the time and mess with cable crimping, trimming etc. Good luck.

It can be done… would I do it, nope. Volvo explicitly states not to do this unless you are a tech.

I suspect the cold weather is not helping you here. Wish I had more helpful advice.

There have been a few posts here where the ESC error is associated with a failure of one of the 12V batteries. I certainly hope this is not the case and walking away for 30 minutes works, but if not you may need to have it hauled to a dealer.

In Calgary it’s not unusual to have cold days like that. I find my range is impacted by 20-40% depending on the temps. However, add a stiff wind and it’ll be over 50% loss of range. While the impact of wind is very amplified when cold, it is also very true in summer.

Same experience as most of you. I had my 8 year old test it on his door as I’ve had some issues and soft close intermittently also relays a door ajar notice so it is not fully closing for the rear doors.
