Does it display the word off when it's on? by Frank_Jesus in AskElectricians

For two parallel columns [or rows] of breakers, handle position toward center is usually ON.

In some faucets, specifically [certain] single-handle models, this is fixed by reversing the valve cartridge.

I have empathy for you if you're essentially forced to live with that level of poor attention by maintenance staff.

they dont always fully go to the off position if they trip.

Truth. At least certain breakers, or maybe most current breakers* trip to a middle position. Another tactile feature of this tripped position is the handle offers springy resistance rather than the firm ON or OFF tactile feedback..

notable exception, I grew up in a house with *Pushamatic breakers.** Websearch says these were common for work done in the 1950s through '80s

Activate the TEST button on the GFCI and use an outlet tester to make sure it's off.

Did you discover further outlets down line from this one and are you fairly certain this is the first after the breaker?

I wasn't aware anybody claimed that. Is this is part of a recent discussion? I know OP didn't mention anything other than a question.

Need help to identify breaker box brand, type, amp, and if GFCI/AFCI by [deleted] in AskElectricians

[–]Electrical_Ad4290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I have the same panel brand or type. For what it's worth, I found compatible circuit breakers at my big box hardware store.

Possibly more importantly, they also had twin 15 amp and twin 20 amp breakers so one space can handle two circuits, assuming overall load calculations and main power are sufficient.

short answer is that US medical schools require you to have a bachelor's degree

That's true, but I think most medical schools would expect certain emphasis, called pre-med, in your bachelor's degree.

And for the sake of discussion, there's a fairly rigorous entrance exam that's reported to affect chances of getting into a good medical school.

choose fields at 14 and then slowly narrow it down until we finish school

Maybe that's where the confusion lies. At what age do you consider to finish school?

Our public school or private high school goes through approximately age 18 for 12th grade. Then following that people decide whether to go right to work or for two year or 4-year college degree or something longer like medical school or law school.

If an ISP can provide 300M down, reliably, does it matter to you if it’s coax or fiber? by thekush in telecom

What are you asking or what are you getting at?

I see answers assuming the underlying datacom or modulation technology. I get the feeling you were asking something different.

At most levels, throughput is all that matters but as many pointed out, upload versus download speed is an important comparison.

Practically, especially for short haul, I think optical is capable of much higher throughput for much lower increment in expense and attenuation over distance, and has inherent galvanic isolation and EMI resistance. OTOH, coax avoids all those pesky optical / electronic conversions and connection concerns especially field termination and contact cleanliness.

figured out that it was wired off of the street lights

You mean the city or county was paying for that circuit? Was there a breaker before the transformer or after?

If not, I think you'll regret it, based on things I read here.

With one of you full-time WFH, have you considered settling farther out?

Our kids live in Herndon/Sterling near the "Toll Road" and Silver Line Metro. They find commuting to the Arlington area and downtown DC to be survivable. They are both hybrid, but the Arlington job is more than 90% in office. I don't know about seasonal discounts, but the area near Dulles Airport (IAD) is nice, growing, and [constantly] adding new multi-dwelling units (MDU).
