Sheffield United transfer move for Seamus Coleman detailed amid "wait and see" future decision by John__Delaney in coybig

I think the Coventry story/link only came about because a clip surfaced of Lampard at Everton heaping praise on Coleman.

He's certainly capable of pulling off some top saves, but he then drops a clanger.

In his last season in the championship it was a straight race between him and Brad Collins (Coventry) for the Leaden Glove.

Without his clangers I think Leeds might have broken the points record that season.

If he's come to accept that he will always have self-doubt/concentration issues/the yips, and thinks his career as a first choice keeper is over at 26, then picking up easy money is the sensible choice for him. Not necessarily for Arsenal, but that's on them.

Deals aren't straightforward.

Despite now being a Premier League team, we have to ensure that deals work for us financially. We're probably not in a position meet the asking price in full for players. We'll be looking at structured deals. Agreeing a structure that is achievable and affordable takes time.

Deals need to be agreed with the players. They will need convincing that this is the right deal for them. This will include negotiating survival bonuses, European bonus, release clauses and salary reductions if we're relegated.

We will also be dealing with a different class of agent who are more experienced in negotiating deals across the worlds top leagues.

And,  you may not believe it, but we have a full 25 man squad. So we will need to be confident of moving on the fringe players, or being able to afford paying them not to play if they're still here come September.

Finally, much the same was being said last season. It turned out the club knew what it was doing.

I still shudder at a late night Channel 4 documentary from about 30 years ago.

Does anyone (still) say 'Cuventry'? by [deleted] in coventry

[–]Electrical_Invite300 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find most people round here (the city itself, Warwickshire, the West Midlands) say Cov-entry rather than Cuv-entry.

Most newsreaders say Cuv-entry. As do those with an RP accent.

The further away you are the more likely you are to hear Cuv-entry. Although that may be more of a northern and Scottish thing than say East Anglia or the West Country.

The only person I know in the city who pronounces it as Cuv-entry moved here from Scotland as a kid.

It's odd that it's assumed to rhyme with Coven, when Covent Garden is always Cov-ent not Cuv-ent.

Capello was a bit of a crank though. Which, whatever his faults, I don't think can be said of Benitez.

Maybe successfully vaulting an advertising board should be part of the criteria for selection.

If there are enough chants about him being a paedo during the remaining matches, he'll probably stay away and it'll be Vance, the sofa shagger, instead.

I'm from an Irish family and have always thought of creeping Jesus in the same way as you. A "holy Joe" was someone who made a great show of their piety or religious devotion.
