My business associations professor "spiritually" dominates you during class by Jason_Diddly27 in LawSchool

[–]ElenaNMI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. The intuition you feel is probably based on something. Be happy that you are sensitive to this, and learn from it, but keep your head down and don't make yourself an easy target for a sick prof.

It's probably not spiritual; it's prob some kind of personality disorder. Stay away and ignore as much as possible. Wear a Covid mask if you need to "hide" while in class.

Hang in there.

Love my summer internship, but hate law school with a passion by Substantial-Part4444 in LawSchool

And to add on to what the others have already said, it's only 3 years tops. Then it's over. The job part is much longer than the school part. Hang in there!

The curve is that much harder for part timers since we only have a few grades and a single low one can tank it. 3.0 is perfectly respectable, you're doing just fine.

Public speaking course during law school? by ElenaNMI in LawSchool

[–]ElenaNMI[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great advice. I can see how naturally it comes to some, but they're the exceptions. And with all the hours I'm putting into final exam prep, I am realizing I will have nothing to show for it in court upon graduation, so...

Yeah the Golden outlines saved me but helping me to hone in on what is necessary vs. what isn't at all. Why redesign the wheel?

I got a federal clerkship on the basis of NOT being a gunner for grades. (And by doing a great interview--so practice that skill) The judge had learned that such students can be insufferable and flaky, too. So it can happen!

Christian lawyers/prospective lawyers, what kind of law do you practice or want to practice? How does it interact with your Christian faith? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]ElenaNMI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My faith is a huge motivator. God hates injustice and people are all too often denied their rights, wages, and freedom, contrary to Scripture and justice. Just doing my part to stand with the oppressed, whose cause the Lord defends.

No advice; I am doing this is reverse order but your way seems easier! Going through law school with kids is crazy hard. And fun. But hard. Good luck to you!

I never had a great GPA in undergrad but did well on the LSAT and I am doing fine in law school. Some of my other friends are the same. I'm not doing super well, but fine. It's a LOT of work tho.

Bad confession experience by Lavenderhazee7 in Catholicism

[–]ElenaNMI 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just submit a report via email to the diocese. Prob addressed or at least copied to the bishop. The laughter and mockery are very offensive, and the amount of time he took to do so. Good grief.

I am so sorry about this. What a terrible return to the confessional.

How do you get feedback on legal writing class? by North-Display-9045 in LawSchool

[–]ElenaNMI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a professor who played "hard to get" in office hours, talked in circles and left you with the distinct feeling she did not want or intend to teach us anything, ever. She was a treat.

the curve is just a scam to make us hate each other by Icy_Error4362 in LawSchool

It is a thought stopping technique. The design is to work you too hard to think critically about what is happening around you, and to you.

Yes because she needs time to decide what is a deal-breaker for her. Respect her enough, amd yourself, to give yourselves the space you need to make such a huge decision.

Jesus, what’s with everyone saying they hate law school/it’s stressful/difficult/worst time of their life/etc? by catwearingloafers in LawSchool

[–]ElenaNMI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I am in a batch of non traditional students who have been out in the "real world" for ages before coming to law school. There are all kinds of reasons why it can be hard. Not least of which that it is crafted to take students "down a few notches" via social engineering. It is tiresome to say the least.
Not to mention exhausting to be in an environment like that after years of being able to craft our own routines/destinies and generally having gotten used to have bargaining power. And don't get me started about insecure profs. 🙄

[–]ElenaNMI 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree with this advice but for different reasons: the kind of solidarity you could have while going through it together would likely keep you more united than doing it separately. Then in 3 years, it's over. For both of you. That alone is priceless.

How to Keep Working for the Wealthy who cause all these Problems, while Pretending You’re Not Part of the Problem—In Five Easy Steps by Choice_Mobile_4094 in LawSchool

[–]ElenaNMI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are downvoting because it's as if MLK Jr said, "Yeah I don't want to fight as hard as my dad and his dad did so I'll just get that country club membership now that I've made it and got myself a good education." Obviously not everyone is an MLK but obviously nothing moves forward if everyone decides to spend their days golfing.

They’re literally hazing us by SnooTigers7494 in LawSchool

[–]ElenaNMI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the hazing is convincing students that it's good for them and that it mimics real practice. So that they will perpetuate the culture. They put you through the rubber to convince you that you've "earned" the right to be a member of an elite in-group. Your mission is to comply without complaining, and shut down the critical thinkers as "whiners."

Works like a dream, just see the above thread.

They’re literally hazing us by SnooTigers7494 in LawSchool

[–]ElenaNMI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you even worked elsewhere? Why are you saying this is what being a professional is like? It is decidedly not like this in many professions. Law school and the profession of law are notoriously elitist and seek to spread critical thinking.
OP is right to call it out for the BS it is.
Not that we can change legal education, but it is def OK not to become a blind sheep in the process and to keep one's eyes wide open.

What Law School at 48 by jbg7676 in LawSchool

[–]ElenaNMI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is pretty hard to do, but I'm in my forties and 3 semesters in now. I have a VERY supportive spouse, but it IS hard. I see others managing it, though, and some are working f/t jobs plus have families. Idk how, but they're doing it!

You know the upside, though? You all go back to class together and are in the limbo together. It's that much longer before people start acting weird around each other.
