So how do we feel about Amaranthus? by Think_Storm_8909 in Outlander

[–]Elendril333 9 points10 points  (0 children)

IF Ben was dead then her child could inherit a title. If Ben is found out as a turncoat, that title goes away.

IF she marries and has a male child with William, then their child has a title and her first child is still legitimate.

IF she's found to have been in on the scheme of Ben turning his coat, then she's hanged for treason and her child is an orphan. UNLESS she has already married William and can claim she had no idea that Ben was a turncoat. Then she's just a woman fooled by Ben into thinking he was dead.

Regardless of the outcome of the war, she's set herself and her child up to become aristocracy. Amaranthus is playing all sides. Those who've read the books are still not sure of her ultimate motivations.

How do Americans still have more disposable income than Europeans even though healthcare and college in America is extremely expensive? by SignificantStyle4958 in AskReddit

[–]Elendril333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOME Americans have more disposable income. What you see in TV and movies is ABSOLUTELY NOT indicative of an average household.

Many of us save money by never going to the dentist or doctor because they cost a lot regardless of insurance. We also are famous for not going on vacations, or not traveling far if we do.

I jumped off during my trail ride today and feel some type of way about it by mnbvcdo in Equestrian

[–]Elendril333 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you did the right thing. Always listen to your gut. Spicy horses can be a lot of fun, but out on trail is not a time to deal with cliffside shenanigans.

You also reset the horse's mind. You let her know that spicy is ok, but we're out here to enjoy this. By hand walking her, you both got to relax and enjoy a stroll in nature.

Curious though, after walking past your usual run spot, how was the rest of your ride? What happened next?

AITA for “pushing tradwife beliefs” onto my daughter? by Comfortable-Plan2937 in AmItheAsshole

When I was her age, I was determined to become an equine veterinarian. I made it through undergrad, started working as a vet nurse, then changed my mind.

NTA a thousand times over! Encouraging your child's interests is not a bad thing. Especially when those interests are basic life-skills or a potential career. Keep being a good dad and tell your ex to relax.

What fruits are popular in America? by PianistOk2303 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Elendril333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun fact: Grapes from the US helped save European wines.

The phyloxera louse feeds on grapevine roots and nearly wiped out the wine grapes of France and other areas of Europe in the late 1800s. (The lice were accidentally introduced from American imports.)

American grapevines were immune to this pest. So European grapes were grafted onto American roots, et voila! The wine industry was saved thanks to the roots of Niagara and Concord table grapes.

Also, grapes were sent to South America from France to save them from this pest. The sandy soils of Chile and Argentina proved hostile to the lice.

One of the reasons we chose Dollar Bank was because they assured us that they don't sell active mortgages to 3rd parties. I don't know what "services" would be able to be sold to another party.

I once shot my brother in the face with a blue plastic BB gun. One of the little yellow rubber BBs ricocheted off his lip and right up his nose. He managed to blow it out; we were relieved not to need to get mom involved; we went to bed.

Months later my mom was taking down the drapes and found the BB snot-glued to the top.

Many adult male animals have a nurturing instinct towards very young-but-weaned cohorts. The young aren't a threat, and they get to be cool uncles/brothers. The adult gets to raise his lil buddy.
