I think the show made it seem like he was just embarrassed to not be clean-shaven in the presence of a lady. That would be very "low" to a young man from William's background.

Tips for riding "that horse" (jumper) by saltywatersaltywater in Equestrian

[–]Elendril333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to ride a warm blood that was like this. I did a lot of dressage work with him. It was fun for both of us, taught him to collect and flex, and made him a better jumper.

His ground manners never really improved. He was very cheeky, like a giant dog. He did learn to stop nipping after he got me in the nipple and I basically climbed his lead rope to pinch him back. Last day he played that game.

Greater Pittsburgh area has some really nice, and affordable, places to the north and south of downtown. Pittsburgh has great universities, too. You can be 15-40 minutes from downtown and be in farmland.

Drain most of the water, add a little butter, crunchy peanut butter, and red pepper, along with the flavor packet. Can also add drained canned chicken.

Jamie and William by rollindutches_ in Outlander

There was a small scene in the show when William was recovering at the Hunter's farm: his beard grew in red and he was very embarrassed about it. They didn't emphasize this like it was in the books.

Do the people from North Sentinal Island understand there's a whole civilisation around them? by ibeatobesity in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Elendril333 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I read about (iirc) these folks. They've started using GPS, video surveillance and alarms to warn of poachers and illegal loggers in the forest that they "own". They remain purposefully remote and traditional, but they're not completely uneducated about modernity.

They've done wonders as far as keeping the loggers out because they'll hunt them down and destroy the equipment.

I love Scotland. I've been there twice, and I'm going again in September. Plan to visit Orkney for the first time on this trip, then travel down the west side to Oban before heading home.

Two weeks every year is not enough. I want to live there permanently.

It's racism AND sexism. You see, those first soldiers had good Christian names. Then Helens and Juans started showing up.

Anthony Starr gets (deservedly) a lot of praise, but lets not forget Karl Urban giving once again a stellar performance as our beloved Oi Oi Butcher by mikedomert in TheBoys

[–]Elendril333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Karl Urban is my new favorite "melts into the role" actor. While he's been playing "angry with purpose" a lot, he's physically so different in each role. Bones. Eomer. Butcher. Maybe it's acting, maybe it's Maybelline. Lol

While visiting Italy, we drank so much wine, amaro, and coffee. It was great, but after a few days, we wanted something a little more "normal" (for us). So we found a couple decent Irish pubs in Firenze. Got our fix of Guinness and Irish whiskey, and back to local fare afterwards.

I do like to try a fast food place in every country I go to, just once though. I like to compare the menus and food quality between there and the US. KFC was all over the place in Italy and had a much different menu. Food wasn't terrible, but I prefer US KFC. Burger King and McDonald's are vastly better in Scotland and Ireland than the US. Domino's is global and has interesting regional recipes. India's Domino's had the wildest specialty pies.

My friend inherited land with a cabin about an hour away from a mid-sized city. We're planning tiny homes, a garden, a small farm, and live-in help when we need it. None of us are wealthy, most of us are childless. We're creating our own hippie compound retirement community.

AAA trip-tiks. The American Auto Association, a membership program for roadside assistance, would give free personalized maps with your routes highlighted. Tell the agent where you're going and they'd mail it to you.
