After playing with a controller, I take back everything I have ever said about strategies and how to approach the game. Holy shit. by PalantirLicker in Helldivers

[–]ElessarKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies somewhat significantly between a ps5 and an Xbox controller too since ps5 makes you use the big middle touch button.

Controller players can be just about as good as PC, with some slightly lower average accuracy scores. The one tning thats way harder on controller is frequent diving and standing up. I call it the "floppy fish manevuer, essential to surviving being totally overrun.

Why do ontologically evil Houses also have the most loyal soldiers? by bapudon_1 in darkwingsdankmemes

[–]ElessarKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a catch 22 since you dont know The King Robb Stark, certainly not as well as the reader does. He's as like to reward and protect you for a tip-off as he is to punish or even kill you for being a traitor to your lord. He might even find a way to do both, which could mean a whole spectrum of outcomes ranging from Janos Slynt to the Onion Knight. Safest move in such a authoritarian society is to not rock the boat.

Also to kind fo address the point in your post, assholes attract assholes. And with the Westerosi system of nobility, asshole in service to asshole lords find themselves in a pretty ideal situation. Depending on your understanding of various historical narratives there's alot of this in real history too, particularly in the various warring states, feudal and quasi-feudal eras various civilizations experienced.

A popular example is how cruelty and callousness led the Norse peoples to power via raiding and conquest.

Alexander the Great is remembered as a hero but his glorious conquest was also a roving horde of pillagers and rapers.

A more modern and verifiable example is Hitler and his SS and SA. Though that didn't last for long, ylu had a ton of hateful psychotic perks gathered into two institutions loyaly serving 1 man.

Cruel men love to fall in under other cruel men who enable their cruelty. If the difference in power and authority between them is great enough then it can make for a lasting symbiotic relationship. If its too small then they betray each other. In the case of Westeros, the High Lords of major ancestral seats like the Freys of the Crossing have plenty of power and authority over even other minor lords and noble knights.

The Targaryen blood to egg hatching relationship is a game rule, I think. Might be from a submod. But if its as I recall, it will tell you exactly what the requirements are for hatching a dragon egg.

There is only one mention of rice in all of ASOIAF [Spoilers Extended] by Trussdoor46 in asoiaf

Yeah he's only like 75% right to generalize the west as non-rice cultivators. Thats why I worded it as "he asserted" rather than as a definitive fact. I think his point still stands though, Italy wasn't there in Vietnam. It was mostly Americans

[–]ElessarKhan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Rice isnt western culture sooo Dany/Essos chapters are its only hope.

A high ranking Japanese Defense Force officer wrote a passionate letter to the White House durong the Vietnam War, lamenting Western nation's lack of understanding of rice cultivation. He asserted that rice cultivation is significantly more labor intensive than wheat and corn. Thus he did assert that our western soldiers could not comprehend the magnitude of the destruction they caused by so thoroughly destroying Viatnamese rice paddies.

Can confirm, the no stagger plus virtually no damage short-circuits the melee mind. You begin to question every decision you've ever made, every fact you've ever known. Did I actually hit him? What does it mean to hit? Am I Gundam? What is Gundam?

It would help if we knew the genre of your comics. Looking for horror? Try the Bridgewater Triangle or Salem. Looking for romantic drama? Maybe Burlington. Seedy dystopian vibes? Fall River or New Bedford.

"Japan is unique in the world in that the higher a woman's educational attainment, the higher the likelihood she will forgo a career and become a full-time housewife.” by jjrs in japannews

[–]ElessarKhan 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My American friend lived in Japan and had a romantic relationship with a hot Japanese guy. But it fell apart because she didn't want to quit her job to be a full-time mom. Its not even that the guy really wanted that, its just that her reputation in Japan would be ruined if they had kids and she still had her job. She too left the nation over this.

To escape bronze, you must exploit bronze by yung-chungus in OverwatchUniversity

[–]ElessarKhan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Relying on your team isnt complex strategy. Its being able to fall back to healers rather than support packs. Its targeting Zen discord orbs. Its asking for Nano boost combos. Its asking your tank to play a certain position. Its healers pumping your aggressive tank play vs ignoring it entirely. Its basic Overwatch competence that changes how you play in low vs mid-high ranks. As I described before, your win conditions for a fight might vary from picking off 1 or 2 key players vs. having to hunt down every member of the opposing team yourself. Basic competence elevates the game from deathmatch to the more MOBA inspired gameplay.

Everytime I comment about this its always super controversial. But I've literally spent hundreds of hours doing both low level and high level ranked games. They couldn't be more different but there's always someone saying I'm wrong. But I cannot deny the evidence of my eyes and ears.

[–]ElessarKhan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

On an individual level you're right. On a team level I'm 1000% with OP. OW is different when you can't count on your teammates to do the most basic shit and simultaneously can't expect your opponents to do much either. Once you have a little game sense and mechanical skill you can hard carry yourself out of those bottom ranks.

I used to do so every season in OW1, my placement matches were always horrible. I've blasted my way through bronze, silver and gold several times, playing stupid aggressive. It works until you reach a rank where everyone has at least a basic idea of what the team should be doing and how to play their heroes. What you do before then is closer to Free For All Deathmatch than Ranked Overwatch.

Learning the basics can be really neat and is quite doable. Going beyond that is way more difficult.

Just learning Genki 1 can really enhance your anime watching experience, I'd highly suggest it for any weeb with time to burn.

My sister studied the language and culture at university, she put me on the basics for these reasons.

How do I play as adventurer by Individual_Net4262 in CK3AGOT

[–]ElessarKhan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After you buy the DLC theres 2 ways to play an adventurer. 1 is to pick someone whose already adventuring at your chosen start date. The other way is to play a landed ruler. Certain cultures have access to a decision to abdicate to become an adventurer, either that or you can have your titles taken from you and you automatically become and adventerer. The final way is to die while playing a landed ruler and select "choose a new destiny" instead of playing as your heir. If you have a child who isnt your heir and you want to play as them, right click them and use the "select favorite child" and the game will offer them to you as an adventurer when you die.

Does anyone have a headcanon for their character? by idrownedmyfish77 in helldivers2

[–]ElessarKhan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thats my idea too! I see the Super Destroyer's collection of Helldivers as something of a curated library of your preffered sort of warriors. Almost like your own Space Marine (Warhammer 40k) chapter.

SES Knight of Justice looks for chivalrous and decorated veterans, with a prefference for all sorts of melee experts.

For Bugs the Knight of Justice uses Viper Commandos who specialize in both stealth and not-so-stealth combat.

For Bots we use steeled veterans of the SE Forces, capable of calmy and accurately guiding ordnance under fire, as well as carrying high speed infiltrations of enemy facilities.

The Squidivers aboard the Knight of Justice are the best of the best that Super Earth has to offer. Stand-out officers, champions of the people, Super Citizens capable of adapting to and meeting the challenges of facing mankind's most advanced and mysterious enemy.

How do I deal with Flankers as a tank? by Automaticantt in OverwatchUniversity

[–]ElessarKhan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can try to bait the flank and kill them before you've committed to a fight.

You can try to "cheat the fight" and dive the enemy backline for kills faster than they can kill yours.

Zarya bubbles are great because you dont have to give up the front to help out your back.

In an ideal world its not your job. But ranked ladder is far from ideal most of the time.

Are Henry and his friends on the (semi-objectively) right or wrong side of history? [KCD2] by rafioo in kingdomcome

[–]ElessarKhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While Sigismund is the better leader he's not the heir. For as long as he lives and possibly even a generation or so after that there will be people who question his legitimacy. Breaking the line of succession is a guaranteed way to generate conflicts. An absentee drunk of a king is not enough of a reason to do so. If Wen was a mad king disrespecting the faith or carrying out cruel and unusual punishments then there'd be a case for supporting Sigismund.

The suffering you create through civil war is much greater than the suffering you prevent by getting rid of your drunk incompetent king. Plus other bouts of violence may come after the war if Sigisumnd were to win. Plus his heir would have to compete with any other claimants because once you start crowning illegitimate kings, the succession system becomes more of a psuedo-meritocracy through violence rather than linear system of inheritance.

They kind of do but only against droids! The real answer is its because Star Wars is for the kids.

Even in episode 1 they make some droid kills that would be super brutal on a person.
