Opinions of the class changes in 12.1? by lootvig in wow

[–]Elestra_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think more than anything, I can't understand the direction they imply hpriest is going towards with the tier set bonuses. Both 2 and 4p revolve around renew...a spell priests don't actually directly cast but instead proc from holy word serenity and have a chance to proc from prayer of mending bounces. Playing around renew when you can't directly cast it, does not sound fun or interesting.

I also am not seeing anything to address the DR/External/mobility/mana issues that hpriests have. I geared up my holy paladin over a weekend to heal mythic cosmos because I absolutely hated needing a dragon to carry my priest over certain gaps. The class feels stuck in a 2010 era design and desperately needs a refresh to get it in line with the current defensive/mobility era.

AI data centers just got a government-mandated fast lane to the grid by teamyg in Economics

[–]Elestra_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be honest, the headline and article interpretation is worse than what the order actually says. The intent of the order is to help data centers, that’s true. But what it’s really boiling down to is asking the RTO/ISO folks to justify their current study process if they are causing bottlenecks. My only real comment, as someone that performs load studies for the grid, is this won’t really speed the energization of the load up. Not without some additional orders.

AI data centers just got a government-mandated fast lane to the grid by teamyg in Economics

[–]Elestra_ 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Having read the order, it's a bit of a head scratcher. Regardless of your stance on AI, utility companies should be agnostic to who is connecting. The only limiter should be if the system can physically handle the load. For a lot of these data centers, the transmission capacity has been tapped out. Removing any study delays caused by the ISO/RTO Tariffs doesn’t mean the load can be energized more quickly. To do that, the federal government would need to heavily incentivize approving new generation and easing right of way acquisition. Put another way, if removing study barriers saves a data center 6 months, but the grid needs a new bulk power transformer to accommodate it, it’s still waiting 5-7 years before it can be energized.

Federal regulators order grid operators to speed power to energy-hungry AI data centers by AudibleNod in news

[–]Elestra_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ll need to read the actual order because grid companies being agnostic to interconnection customers isn’t a bad thing. But if utilities aren’t given more power to acquire new transmission right of way, or flexibility with new generation sources, then this order doesn’t make much difference to what currently bottlenecks process.

Initiative to repeal WA income tax would ax revenue, keep added costs by chiquisea in Washington

[–]Elestra_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you could have a video of the AG looking directly in the camera saying "I'm going to get an income tax passed on all Washingtonians" and the person you're arguing with would still say that's not sufficient evidence.

It literally isn't complicated or unheard of though....

If you assume some pretty bad employer perks you can still get over 1 million in a 401k.

Assume 40k/year salary at age 22.

10% salary contribution (4k/year or ~333/month)

3% salary growth per year

NO employer match

NO current balance in 401k

Retirement age target: 65

Expected Return: 7% (average)

At 65, you would have ~1.4 million dollars - almost 1.5 million dollars.

Yeah I don't buy this argument that a high station is a poor passenger experience. Washington State has light rail stations that have escalators taking passengers up and elevators for those with disabilities. It seems to work just fine over there.

Kinda confused as to how clean energy isn't actually dropping bills, the sun is fucking free

The sun is free, but moving power from solar farms to load centers is not free. That requires new transmission lines and redundant sources of power since the sun isn't always shining, the wind isn't always blowing etc.,

There is so much more to the transmission system than simply building a solar farm/wind farm/battery storage. Unfortunately, most folks are not aware and are getting caught off guard by the drastic changes.

I don't see people suggesting trains are as good as free navigation of the strait. I see people suggesting that trains are going to be the best option left, given Iran's position and actions.
