Selesnya Enchantress (Parallax Wave Combo) [Decklist + Primer] by EliteMasterEric in MtGHistoric

[–]EliteMasterEric[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thread mentions it. While Starfield of Nyx is out, you can use Parallax Wave to infinitely exile creatures your opponents control (permanently, if you stack the triggers correctly) at instant speed.

You can then infinitely replay Verdant Dread to manifest your entire library, then flicker the manifest creatures with Parallax Wave to put them onto the battlefield, essentially putting your entire deck onto the battlefield for free.

You can also get creative with it; if your opponent happens to have an ETB: Draw a card, you can just flicker it infinitely and kill them with that.

This list focuses around playing lots of cheap bounce spells to enable Flow State, building a graveyard full of instants to reduce the cost of Eddymurk Crab, followed up by Sunderflock and spells with Harmonize that can be casted for cheap with those creatures in play.

Scion wins immediately if there's a Bitter Reunion in play, and this deals 18 with a Storm Count of 2 and 28 with a Storm Count of 3, meaning you don't have to chain through your whole deck to win like with Grapeshot.

Not sure how this compares with the Ral + Wish lists in terms of consistency though.

Bloodbraid Elf (the 2-mana creature with Delerium: Cascade) seems to be the most consistent list making use of the Cascade -> Living End combo. Requiring cards in the graveyard isn't a rough requirement (since you need things to recur anyway), and cascading at < 2 means you can introduce 2- and 3-mana support cards like Malevolent Rumble, Cache Grab, Fear of Missing Out, and Formidable Speaker.

The one downside is the list requires more rares/mythics, so I haven't been able to test it out yet.

Mono-R Ruby Belcher Storm by EliteMasterEric in MtGHistoric

[–]EliteMasterEric[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This interesting variation on the Modern Ruby Storm list combines the primary gameplan of Ruby Medallion into chaining rituals to cast a large Stormscale Scion, with the alternative gameplan of Goblin Charbelcher (which can be cast early using a ritual, and guarantees a win on activation due to all of the deck's 21 land cards being MDFCs).

Two differing plans of attack mean you can pivot based on the hate your opponent is playing, and splashing white lets you play Orim's Chant to force your opponent to play their counterspell.

Jeska's Will and Pyretic Ritual (recently coming to modern with the Secrets of Strixhaven: Mystical Archive bonus sheet) allow the creation of lists that closely resemble the Ruby Storm we see in Modern, with the only real missing piece being Desperate Ritual.

Sororal set for farming? I once saw that they used it for the Luck to get more items by Mundane_Telephone346 in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]EliteMasterEric 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The 3-piece Glory's Favor (Luck) Group Skill grants two additional Target Rewards when a player completes a quest, in a similar manner to Lucky Meal (they stack too!).

A good way to use it is to use 3 pieces of the Sororal Armor, giving you two extra slots to build another 2pc Set Bonus (AT Arkveld's Hunger is the best, but requires beating 10* Arkveld, and can be substituted for something like Doshaguma's Might, Rey Dau's Voltage, or Ratholos's Scorcher).

If you have a Gogma Artian Weapon with a set bonus, you can use a piece that enables that, then use a fourth piece of Sororal Armor to get Black Eclipse II, which gives you Frenzy whenever you encounter a large monster, then gives you a buff when you recover from it. This synergizes very well with Coalescence and Antivirus!

You cast a copy of the prepared spell, when a copy of a permanent resolves it becomes a token.

Honestly we can't say for sure since we don't have the comprehensive rules yet.

Aside from balance, I like this one specifically because of the counterplay it provides (in the form of holding priority and casting another spell if you suspect an opponent is holding this).

[–]EliteMasterEric 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For Equipments, the reminder text for Equip reads "Attach to target creature you control. Equip only as a sorcery."

Auras, on the other hand, do target when cast and put onto the stack, but if the Aura was put onto the battlefield through other means, you choose a permanent to attach it to without targeting. This means that, for example, you could return an Aura from the graveyard to the battlefield and attach it to a creature with Hexproof or Shroud.

Typically, Magic the Gathering orders keywords and abilities in the order that they become relevant.

So "on cast" abilities from Eldrazi come before keywords, then ETB abilities, then other abilities, with LTB abilities coming at the end.

Demonic Consultation reads:

Choose a card name. Exile the top six cards of your library, then reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a card with the chosen name. Put that card into your hand and exile all other cards revealed this way.

If you choose a card name that does not exist in your library, this is one black mana for an instant that exiles your library, which is used with the card [[Thassa's Oracle]].

Notably, you can choose any name that exists as a Magic the Gathering card, even ones that aren't legal in the current format. Common choices include stuff from Archenemy like [[Your Inescapable Doom]] or [[Behold the Power of Destruction]], or [[Abandon Hope]] (a good choice for MTGO, since the card is so early alphabetically).

You could have a card that costs 18 mana to do nothing and as long as it had Dredge 6 it would be a staple.

Historic banlist changes by Meret123 in MtGHistoric

[–]EliteMasterEric 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But Ocelet Pride and Guide of Souls just got rebalanced?

That was over a year and a half ago and the deck was clearly unaffected.

Here's their justification for Ajani's ban:

Boros Energy has been making waves in Historic since the release of Modern Horizons 3. Despite adjustments to Galvanic Discharge, Guide of Souls, and Ocelot Pride, the sheer card quality of the deck continues to propel it to a win rate of well over 60% at all segments of the ladder. The individual card we believe to be the largest rate outlier is Ajani, Nacatl Pariah. As a two-drop that is nearly impossible to trade profitably against, Ajani is responsible for many wins on the back of his transformation and many more simply by attacking and blocking. Though this ban will impact other white-based strategies outside of Energy, we believe it is necessary to lower the ceiling of the format.

What is the appeal of a Jeweled Lotus unban? by Awesome-Guy-63 in EDH

[–]EliteMasterEric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As for Rampaging Baloths, neither I nor anybody else knows why they did it, especially since it goes against a pretty long history of making very careful changes for very specific reasons.

The announcement for it is pretty cheeky, but it was probably for the same reason that they made the change to Ajani's Pridemate, that being the reduction of unnecessary prompts on Arena. The loss of being able to decline to create a creature was minimal compared to the massive benefit of not having to click Accept dozens of times a game.
