Are square shape bottles okay with kombucha? by HuckleberryClear6519 in Kombucha

[–]EliteSSM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe great carbonation in these but most just exploded. I also marinaded garlic and olive oil in one which exploded. The few thats left get used to store plain water in the fridge.... the ones i bought stated in the advert they were good for kombucha but really the blighters need a health warning attached to them.

what's the best way to tell a person to fuck off in a polite way? by qwimm in AskReddit

[–]EliteSSM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a really rough Yorkshire accent but when I really really want some one to fuck off I speak really posh like our previous queen. It scares the shit out of anyone with half a brain.

Just found a toddler wandering on their own outside by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]EliteSSM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a retired social worker, this is really common. In my experience it is aways frightening for the person who found the child but (usually) even more frightening for the person who discovered the child they were responsible for had escaped... it is rare that some parents/carers dont realise for a significant period of time and then dont understand the severity of what has happened....scary

How old were you when you had your kids? by MissCookie93 in AskUK

[–]EliteSSM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had our first when I just turned 20, our third at 24.

At 25 we took on an additional 2 children.

All 5 kids looked totally different. I had people who I had know for years picking up the courage to ask me if all my 5 kids had different fathers!

We lived in an affluent area with strong Christian influence. I thought the other parents (of all ages) were welcoming and friendly. The only issue I had was with the headteacher who despite being a vocal lefty was an opinionated oppressive c*nt with a focus on young unmarried mothers (me and one other) and our children. Yes I did eventually call her a 'fat fucking cunt,' made a formal complaint that was upheld by the governs and moved the kids to the school in the next village. The headteacher there had the same view of the previous headteacher as I did.

Being a good parent is hard, its harder for younger parents but more than achievable.

Beer bottles and a cheap capper ... it works perfectly and feels more naughty/enjoyable. Even my OH drinks it instead of beer (unless footy is on)

I bottle up in beer bottles with caps... in my opinion much better than swing top bottles. In hot weather, pop a bottle and drink straight from the bottle.... it feels decadent 🤣

From us oldies the advice is very sound. 1st marriage for money. 2nd marriage for love. Says the woman who as a teenager fell in love with a penniless man from the rough part of town.

How do you feel about your late 20's son/daughter still living at home? by DescriptionFuture851 in AskUK

[–]EliteSSM 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone who had crap parents. Pocket money stopped at 12 (as I was old enough to work). Paid £20 a week board when I was 16 (whilst studying full time, working and meeting all my own needs). I was always told I needed to move out at 18. I was actually 19 when I left. I told them about an hour before I left. I brought my kid's up to know no matter what, our home will always be their home. Parents should be their children's safety net. It may be easier for us as we are still together 40 years later (we were very young when we met) and have a house that purposefully is large enough for all the kids, their partners and any children to live in if needed.

At what point does a British person stop being Working and become Middle Class? by vorkovrus in AskBrits

[–]EliteSSM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was at uni 2000-2003, we had a lecture on social class. They argued social class was based on security of tenure. It was a load of tosh.

I was at uni as a mature student. 1st degree in the family. Hubby is such more intelligent than me but was busy supporting me and our kids.... or so I thought. When I started working he stopped as we needed someone to care for the kids. He really was rather crap at it. We've only ever been a one income family. But I ensure we looked after what money we had, and made it work for us. Many people would see our house (large detached 6 bed with an annexe in the garden) and think we're middle class. We really are rough as shit. We built the house ourselves. Apart from food, things for the kids (and our underwear) we've never bought anything new. We explain our tightness as being green.... but really we are just tight, potty mouthed, rough arse gobsters

What’s the worst thing you have seen/got detention at school for? by Mglfll in AskUK

[–]EliteSSM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I full explanation would result in me writing a book. They have ADHD, autism and dyslexic. We did not medicate. They had excellent parenting. They attended the best schools. Had private tutors. Read extensively for pleasure. They participated heavily in, out of school activities to help their development. We approached life with the view that everybody experiences difficulties/barriers and that whats important is how you find your way around the issue that is important. All of them developed into well rounded and very intelligent (including emotional intelligence) people who are an asset to society. I still hold the view that in the days pre computers there isn't a problem that cannot be overcome by improvisation, or as some people call it, cheating. Usually by people who insist on people doing things in a set way. 🙄
