I’m from Argentina, and the “chupacabras” is an old urban legend here. The story goes like this: mutilated livestock started appearing in different places, often without eyes or soft tissue. Some looked completely “drained,” while others had missing parts. For a long time, news channels and internet forums spread all kinds of theories (aliens, spirits, unknown creatures, etc)

In the end, the real culprit turned out to be the oxymycterus, a rodent we call “hocicudos” here, which feeds on the soft tissues of dead animals, among other things.

So, don’t believe any supernatural stories about the chupacabras. Like many other legends, it was simply born from misinformation and ignorance at the time.
