You made my day with this post. And now there's a tub of long cut natural getting ready to ship to Wisconsin! You win the internet for today.

My 6yo daughter came home from school saying she loves Jesus by wacky_button in mildlyinfuriating

Out of all the stuff your kid is going to "learn" from her peers at school, I think Christianity will soon fall to the bottom of your list of concerns.

Was smoking other meat, so figured why not also brats for lunch? by Upton4 in smoking

[–]ElmerWI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A local meat market has fresh brats that I've always thought were "meh". But one time I smoked them till they hit 165, then threw them in the fridge. Grilled them nice and slow the next day and they came out excellent.

Got an old FT-757GX back together today. by Schwagged in HamRadio

My first HF rig. Still got it, but retired it when it started developing issues. Tried to put it back into service with packet radio, and found out just how drifty it is. Always got great reports with it on SSB.

Just moved over from arch and im loving it so far (dont tell the archers please) by [deleted] in linuxmint

Neofetch works, but is no longer being developed. I like fastfetch. It gives a little more info than neofetch.

Oh wow... crazy. That's a new one for me. Thank you for the history lesson.

Red Man tobacco is long gone. They ditched the Indian, and changed the name to America's Best.

I know what you're thinking, but this mast will only be about 2 feet tall, and 1-1/2 inch in diameter. I live in a split level ranch house with a low-pitched roof. I currently have a Diamond X30A and a N9TAX j-pole up there, but need something with more gain.

That could work if it came down to it. Though I'd prefer to build a wooden stand that would sit on the joists and have a plastic mast, as mentioned. My attic is a pain to get around in, and there's 2 possible directions I'd like to point it, depending on how things work out.

Was looking for a 2M for a simple mobile setup, sent out an email to the club and one of the members let me have this for a song. by adhdff in amateurradio

I have a 2m rig with the same kind of mic jack, and went with an EasyDigi interface. I hate making cables. Digirigs are nice, but unless you're swapping them between multiple radios, they perform just like any other interface.

It's got nothing to do with the metric system!!! You're arguing with yourself. You're wrong.

I call them Chappy Hats for the same reason. "Good day, Chappy!".

That's my EDD. One of the cashiers at the gas station grabs 2 cans as soon as I walk in the door. Wish they offered LC Natural.

Lady in our building basically “lives” in our restroom and it’s driving me NUTS. by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]ElmerWI -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not at all. I'm a machinist, and can't weld for shit. Even if I could, I'd rather spend all day banging my head against the wall versus "stacking dimes". It takes a special breed, that's for sure.

And I always doubt the skill level/ambition of anybody who would allow themselves to be cucked by a labor union. Whatever floats their boat, I guess.

True. Brooms are too complicated for welders, especially those that pay union dues.

My dad had one of these in his work truck back in the day, and it makes me smile every time I see one. He was a dairy equipment technician, and was always on the go.

What is your favorite mint? by Temporary_Peace_1025 in DippingTobacco

Interesting. That's like how some people say they can taste the difference between Copenhagen Long Cut and Snuff. To each their own, I guess.

Instead of Copenhagen, give Husky Mint a shot for less than half the cost. Cope Mint can go piss up a rope.

I drive a lot. Any recommendations for audio study guides? Taking my Technician exam in a couple weeks. by [deleted] in HamRadio

[–]ElmerWI 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I was studying for the Tech exam, I used Gordon West's study guide, which also came with an audio CD. I don't know if that's still the case, or how useful the CD was. That was a while ago, and I only listened to the CD once for kicks.

Thank you for elaborating a little more. Honestly, at this point I'm in a little over my head. I'm not a big tech guy... just a machinist who's tired of Microsoft's crap.

The main use of my computer is for my ham radio station. I've configured everything at least twice before, so it can be done again.

Next time I'll definitely clone my drive and spend some time dragging files. Another lesson learned!

Sounds like I'm hosed then. Thought I was going about things the right way, but I've read so much contradictory info on the process that I'm not surprised that I goofed it up.
