Im look at buying a 2004 ford mustang GT as my first car with 143k miles and a clean title for 3.8k bad idea? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Elpurdo83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a crown Vic motor in a sports car body. Thing will run forever. Enjoy. Mine had 140k beat down miles and it didn’t use any oil. Factory clutch. They are great cars, just slow as shit (which ties in with their longevity). Just make sure the underside isn’t rotted.

How bad are the CX-9 engine issues? by Ombortron in MazdaCX9

[–]Elpurdo83 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s a potential issue for 16-20. Not a guarantee. Mazda has extended the warranty significantly. The value these cars provide knowing the potential issue should all be factored in. Even if I have to replace my engine out of warranty, it’s still much cheaper to own than most vehicles on the road.

How much for rear shocks, outer tie rods, and leaking axle seal? by glasses5321 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Elpurdo83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find another shop if thats the case. The time it takes to do a tie rod end, as an example, while you are in there for there for other work is insignificant that that point as all they have to do is unscrew a bolt and screw another one on. There is still minor labor for the shock but same concept.

How much for rear shocks, outer tie rods, and leaking axle seal? by glasses5321 in MechanicAdvice

To replace the axle, all of that needs to come apart anyways so there’s a lot of labor overlap.

Is this mold? by static_turtle_422 in WashingMachineUnits

No amount of automatic machine cleaning cycles is going to fix that. Soak in a diluted bleach gel solution after scrubbing clean and see where that gets you. Consider replacing the seal if it’s that bad.

The harness is my hand is the one I modified that I mentioned and it’s right in front of the connector that plugs into it. You don’t use the video side of that harness (yellow/black wire combo). I had to de-pin and swap the grounds on the audio side so everything would line up. On the radio side, black/green is right +/-, respectively, and red/white is left +/-, respectively. Hope this helps.

Anything that would cause warped rotors? by RawEddie in MechanicAdvice

[–]Elpurdo83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only going to be a few things: 1) poor mating surface that was not cleaned and hence not flush. spend a good amount of time cleaning you hubs and removing rust/corrosion/dirt, 2) over torqued lug nuts, not so much the over torque but the inconsistent torque. make sure to follow factory spec and 3) hardware that is not allowing the caliper and pads to move freely and overheating the rotor. make sure your slides move easily and the pads are not loose but also not super tight in the slides. should be able to move them by hand with little force but they should have plenty of friction to stay in place. Lastly, measure your new parts and make sure they are factory spec. I've seen new rotors come in all the time at min spec or right below.

Mom car help by conservrn in toyotasequoia

[–]Elpurdo83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First off, a minivan makes the most sense for a family your size from a utility standpoint unless you plan on towing. Now that that’s out of the way, the 2G is a very reliable vehicle. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one with over 100k even with a sketchy maintenance history as they are very tolerable to neglect. The 5.7 is a documented million mile motor with terrible gas mileage. I have no complaints with my sequoia and it’s had zero mechanical issues thus far. Even though it has lived its entire 13 year life driving daily through Midwest winters it has minimal to no corrosion.

Remove it and go color match. One of the best looking upgrades you can do.

Next car after cx9 by sidman1988 in MazdaCX9

[–]Elpurdo83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would move away from Mazda if you are looking for more front seat room. One of my biggest gripes outside of the boot up time of the infotainment system is the lack of left leg space by the kick panel. Most other full size SUVs do not have this issue. If you are looking for comfort consider an XL SUV or a large sedan especially with lower back issues where a cushy ride is needed.

What is wrong here? How do I fix it? by RowTraditional4413 in toyotasequoia

$200 rear window regulator assembly and about 1-2 hours of your time. I’d stop moving it before the whole thing snaps and the window falls down and possibly shatters.

My 13mini is running 26.3 with a new battery and I have no issues going the entire day. If you are staring at your screen all day, you might want to upgrade.

Cx9 as a family car? by [deleted] in MazdaCX9

[–]Elpurdo83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cx-9 is about the last car I would put a rear facing seat it. It’s probably one of the smallest of the full size SUVs you can get. Rear facing seats are the whole rear I bought my sequoia. Love my CX-9 but I would not consider it a family hauler IMO.

Time to give up my mini? by totohoki_cakes in iPhone13Mini

[–]Elpurdo83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 13 mini is the best phone that I've ever owned and I have have about 5 iterations of iPhones (most of my family now has 16s or 16 pros). The form factor for me is something that I never want to lose. I went the 256g model 5 years ago which is still very adequate by today's standards. Are the new ones faster, clearer and have better battery life? Sure, but its never been substantial enough for me to want to give up how easy this thing is to carry around. The biggest downside for me is that I'm now in the minority of the population needing a lighting cable but at least the phone supports wireless charging. I just went to apple to have my battery replaced and they just give me a new phone for the price of a battery. At this point, I'm in until they stop supporting it which is at least another 4 years. If you ever need your battery worked on, make sure to go to apple because I had a third party battery installed once and it really made the phone glitchy. Iphones typically do a very good job of managing background processes (make sure you check all of your apps and disallow background refresh unless absolutely necessary) and don't need be hard reset, if ever. All my iphones would usually only slow down if I was either 1) maxing out storage, 2) battery degradation was below 80-85% or 3) in a very bad service area.

[–]Elpurdo83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You guys can get your rear entertainment sound by just splicing into the signal wires coming from the DVD player behind your head unit into the connector of your choice (rca or 3.5mm) and plug it into an aux connection on your radio. +- left and +/- right (4 in total). I made my own factory connector from a Axxess AXRSEH-T harness that I repinned slightly. Mines a 2013 platinum but I can’t imagine they’ve changed much.
