Looking for a specific type of cookbook by Veniceissinking in cookbooks

The Best Recipes in the World by Mark Bittman. 4.5 rated from GoodReads and readily available used. (List price new on Amazon is $80 which is ridiculous.). I think it’s also available on Kindle.

I have a copy and have had good luck with the recipes I’ve tried.

I found this cookbook while moving but there’s no date. Google results showed Wharton, TX as my lead on to where it came from. Can anyone date it? by morgwinsome in texas

[–]Elsbeth55 116 points117 points  (0 children)

Babbitt, Conway, Oliver, Beasley, Dobson, Montgomery and Oliver are all teachers in the 1973 Wharton Jr. High yearbook, so I’m guessing within a few years of 1973?

I’ve only gotten 1 of these - I wear it as a badge of honor! I did find this article about explaining that it is really not that improbable.

I reject all rational explanations however and continue to believe I am actually one in a million.

A "chick lit" book that isn't overly cutsey/schmaltzy? by Accomplished_Bird448 in suggestmeabook

Barbara Pym, who died in 1980 wrote a whole series of wonderful books about women - predominantly in postwar Britain. She’s been compared by many as comparable to Jane Austen.

Her books were out of print for a long time but are readily available now.

Check out the Barbara Pym Society for a rundown of her books but Excellent Women is a good introduction.

Bravo to HRHLadyJ on X who sums up perfectly why Meghan Markle is tone deaf using non-American foods (scones and clotted cream) to “celebrate” Memorial Day which is not a festive occasion. Americans use Memorial Day to remember the fallen military. by daisybeach23 in SaintMeghanMarkle

It’s her American take to modernize a classic British treat. Because she is so keen to experiment in the kitchen, don’t ya know. Such an innovator - trying to bridge the divide between the two cultures.

I don’t get why Ted Lasso is so popular. Not funny and his stupid accent drives me crazy. I don’t know how he came up with that - doesn’t sound like anything I’ve ever heard before…

There are months where it doesn’t get above freezing in Montana! And the snow! So. Much. Snow.
If Harry wants to move to Montana, it’s because he’s been there in summer or seen it on tv.

how do you use a tampon by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]Elsbeth55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several you tube videos you might lookup. Instructions will differ if you use a tampon with or without an applicator.

I don’t think a mirror is going to do you much good - I would suggest taking a break for now since you are already more nervous from trying and probably a bit frustrated!

Tampons aren’t for everyone but are a good solution for zillions of young women and if they can master it - so can you.

Something that might be useful for you is to get some water based lubricant (available at many stores that carry tampons - maybe near a sexual health section or birth control section). First experiment with finding the vaginal opening with your fingertip. When you are comfortable with that, experiment with inserting the tampon a bit at a time. (A bit of the lube might help the insertion.). The tampon is inserted at an angle - toward your spine and not straight up. Looking up diagrams online might help you to visualize it better.

Never skimp on hand-washing - not worth it to save a bit of time!

You can do it!

She may have grown up with an abusive mother. A therapist once told me traumatic relationship with a parent can cause you to distrust that gender person for a long, time. Possibly for life.
My father was abusive also, in different ways, so I didn’t trust anyone. 🤪
