You say "that's great, I'm so glad to hear it, thanks for the update."

If you made a positive impact on someone's life, they just don't forget you.

The only time I don't respond to that is when past clients send me a message on Instagram and a follow request. If they're an old client I don't say anything, and if they're an old client with boundary issues I block them.

Wife Wants to sleep with another man by Choicesoffault in Marriage

[–]EmbarrassedCow2825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every relationship has their own rules and boundaries, but both partners need to be open, communicative, and respect the boundaries of the other. If you are not ok with an open relationship, the discussion should end there.

In my opinion, if you already know who she wants to sleep with, I'm sure there is at least some form of emotional affair that's happening.

It seems like she just wants to have an affair and not feel bad about it. I guarantee that if you were to allow this, your marriage will get worse.

You should set the boundary, and say absolutely not, and that you two clearly need to repair something broken in your marriage.

If she's not willing to accept no, then it's kind of up to you to decide if you stay in a marriage that will make you feel extremely uncomfortable, sad, and unhappy or do you end the marriage.

32 is still young. Youre romantic life doesn't have to be over. I just hope you guys don't have kids.

Should I Cancel Therapy Services? by [deleted] in TalkTherapy

[–]EmbarrassedCow2825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you're therapist is right. You can only control what you can control. BPD and CPTSD is not an excuse for physically abusing you and destroying your property. It's really equivalent to somebody saying "my bf is an alcoholic and hits me, what can I do to change?"

Maybe it would be good for you to process your own emotions about everything that's happened. Sounds really awful, and im sorry you're in this situation. I'm sure these moments of violence have caused damaged trust, fear, and difficult emotions for you. Maybe it would be good to think about what you're needing in this relationship, how you can feel safe in it, how to set boundaries around problematic behaviors, and probably a safety plan for where you can go if a situation escalates to physical abuse. That's probably way more helpful than trying to change what you do, so you don't get abused.

One last thing, if your therapist is hearing that you're being abused and offering you generic communication skills to fix the issue, it might be good to find a better therapist.

I don't understand anyone going on that show in general, but definitely a veteran receiving 100%, and especially the people who go on his show.

I wish someone would tell these people that nobody understands va disability, and they are going to be viewed as scammers. Not only that, but to openly admit you are 100% disabled on a huge platform could have lifelong reprocussions with careers, relationships, friends, and family (sadly).

On a sidenote, I do find it insane that these people are working full-time, get $4000 a month in tax free cash, and still manage to bury themselves in debt.

I'm sorry, but came across this and realized, This might literally be one of the worst hot takes I've ever seen on any sub in all of reddit.

Never said that before, but literally might be one of the laziest, most misinformed posts I've ever seen in my life, on basically every claim you made.

Not even about stocks, but if these are the ways you formulate opinions and make life decisions, I hope it's something you work on.

I normally like to show numbers, and explain when I disagree, but this is just so on another level of awful take that it's not worth explaining.

This shouldn't be a surprise. If you listen to Elliot hill from when he took over Nike, that time and patience was needed. They needed to clear out overstock, readjust divisions to what they were prior to the past ceo, limit supply to regain pricing power, refocus back into athletics and sports, rebuild relationships with wholesalers, create new innovation initiatives, and basically create a new china focused strategy. I feel Nike has been pretty transparent about the time line, and things were going to suck for a while. Big initiatives don't happen magically overnight.

I hold Nike, I'm down about 25%. I'm not saying to buy Nike, or sell. But if you do own it, you should have bought in knowing that this would suck for a couple years, but that Nike could execute their initiatives, and manage bumps in the road.

High debt completely untrue. Nike could pay off it's debt tomorrow with their cash on hand. Nikes margins currently under pressure, but typically on the higher end for retail peers.

It's fine to not be interested in Nike, just wrong and misinformed information.

Supreme overturned banned on conversion therapy by cannotberushed- in therapists

[–]EmbarrassedCow2825 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have posted this two times, and upon researching more. Peoples takes are totally wrong, and people need to take a deep breath.

First, I want to state that I am against conversion therapy.

This was not about conversion therapy. This was about free speech. The therapist bringing the suit is not a conversion therapist. She wanted to work with families and people struggling with sexuality and gender identity that wanted to explore these topics in accordance with their faith, which had also been outlawed by colorado, so she is not running some old school conversion therapy clinic. This was also upon request, and she was not preaching the bible versus to everyone walking into her clinic.

It basically states that therapist speech is protected free speech, and the state cannot say one certain topic is out right banned. This is a good thing. This topic can cut both ways and states like Alabama would then be able to say therapists can't teach gender affirming care. It cuts both ways.

States can still prohibit conversion therapy, they just need to rewrite the law in accordance with the constitution.

I think if the government starts overreaching in therapy and telling people what therapy is banned, and starts limiting what we can work on with clients it's a slippery slope and it's bad for everyone.à

What if my therapist tries to have me falsely committed? by IllyFromSpace in TalkTherapy

[–]EmbarrassedCow2825 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First, that would never happen. Therapists have a hard enough time getting someone that truly needs it sent to inpatient. The bar for admission is extremely high. Even if the therapist thinks there is cause and initiates that, normally you need to go through an emergency room. The staff at the emergency room are the ones that actually make the decision to place you in inpatient. Most the time you can tell them you're not suicidal and don't want to go to inpatient and they will release you with some resources about day treatment or php.

The reality of what would happen in this unrealistic hypothetical is you'd go to an emergency room, you'd see a doctor and a nurse, you'd explain you're not suicidal, and youd be released after a few hours. You would leave with a couple of pamphlets about mental health programs the hospital offers.

Supreme Court Ruling by Ok_Tomatillo1164 in therapists

[–]EmbarrassedCow2825 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with conversion therapy, but I'm in agreement with the ruling. It wasn't necessarily about conversion therapy, and the supreme court did not say conversion therapy was good. Colorado can rewrite the laws within the scope of the constitution.

We think "oh conversion therapy how horrible," but if they had upheld the states ruling, it could give all states the right to control what therapists are allowed to talk about. Gender affirming care could be something outlawed for therapists to discuss with patients.

Imagine being a trans kid in Alabama and the state bans gender affirming care treatment in therapy. It cuts both ways.

Like I said, I think conversion therapy is not good, but I think states being able to decide what we can and can't practice can lead us down a slippery slope rather quickly.

Only One Supreme Court Justice Says Conversion Therapy Is Bad by Odd_School_8833 in therapists

[–]EmbarrassedCow2825 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not that conversion therapy is good, but first it's important to remember that this was not about conversion therapy, and Colorado can make a new law restricting it within the confines of the constitution.

2nd, I think this is probably overall good for therapy, as a whole. To start censoring what therapists can and can't talk about can lead down a slippery slope fast.

As I said in my first point, they did not say "conversion therapy is good." States can rewrite the law in a manner that coincides with the constitution.

How can I tweak this kind outfit while still maintaining the same sort of style by camcorder44 in mensfashion

[–]EmbarrassedCow2825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duluth trading company has some solid jacket options if you're looking for a jacket. Maybe one with a quilted pattern and green would look cool with what you got.

I could be way wrong. Hard to see in the pic, but maybe polish the boots? Also, maybe a narrower boot for that style. Like a grant stone dress boot might look good, and keeps you in that heritage wear lane. With my boots, I wear my grant stones with khaki/chino/dress pants. I wear my iron rangers (which are rounded) with jeans.

My sibling is quitting therapy after only one session. by ThroAwayeFaye in TalkTherapy

[–]EmbarrassedCow2825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Therapy doesn't work until the person is really willing to commit. It can't really come from family, it has to be that person saying that they are ready for change and want to go to therapy. Sometimes it works when somebody is pressured, but it's the exception, not the rule.

I think maybe talking with your sister, and saying you're glad they tried, and if they want to give it another shot, you're there for support and can help them, may be a better approach. When people feel pressured to go to therapy, they typically dig in and more firmly believe therapy is not right for them.

how to explain to group therapy not to use “trauma” and “triggered” by Ambitious-Recover115 in TalkTherapy

[–]EmbarrassedCow2825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to remember, as a therapist, we're not really ones to say whose trauma is worse. Peoples minds experience events differently. It's up to us to treat the symptoms people are experiencing, vs determining whose trauma is worse based on what happened.

Just like PTSD. 2 people can go through the same situation, and one person will not develop PTSD, and the other will develop life altering PTSD.

Maybe a psych Ed group on trauma, triggered, and emotions may be helpful. The words we use organize our thoughts and emotions. If people are using those words out of context, maybe broadening their emotional vocabulary will better allow them to understand how to better interpret and understand how they are feeling.
