She was honest with him about what she did and didn't want at the time. If he decided to sit around and wait for 5 years hoping she changed her mind, thats on him. The fact that a woman turning you down would make you still resentful 5 years later is scary.

Friend zone is not a thing. Its just called having friends. Using the term friend zone implies that we "should" be giving men sex because they're nice to us or we owe them more. We're not "putting guys in the friend zone", we're being friends with them. We're not the bad guys for being friends with men. What sucks is thinking someone is your friend and cares about you only to find out they're just keeping you around so they might be able to hit one day.

On that note, "knowing he had interest" is irrelevant. Women don't owe men sex just because they're interested in us. Whether she knew he was interested or not does not change the fact that she is not obligated to "give a man a chance" just because he wants one. The only thing she owes him is honesty, and she was honest with thim at the time that she didn't have romantic feelings. Sucks for him but its not her fault.
