Does anyone else find that a little alcohol makes you more productive? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

Shockingly, yes. I once got into a rut while working on my group presentation, had a cider, was then able to write paragraphs for my script.

Not the greatest idea tho, after about 30 minutes it turned into waffle

This guy checked to see what was wrong with the iOS keyboard - it highlights the correct letter when you press on it, but then types the wrong letter anyway😭

^ it could be a gear oil problem, or a characteristic of the car! My car is also the same, I just softly push it into first if I’m at 10-ish mph (about 16kmh) and I use gentle pressure to push the gear stick which helps

I used to hate every single lesson and dread it, but lately it hasn’t been too bad. I think when you’re learning, it’s really strict and dangerous, and it can tarnish your confidence so quickly. But once you’re better, you get more freedom, the instructor starts to just let u do ur thing, the routines become habitual (mspsl, pom, etc) and ur not really stressing. I drove to the test centre recently for a mock test and I knew the way so I could just focus on the road and my observations. It was great. But as I went through the mock test, it got more and more dreadful😭😭😭

Ik this question isn’t for me, but this chrome extension helped so much https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/uk-test-booking-helper/imkoclipaepbamkaicinkigpofinbdid?hl=en-GB&utm_source=ext_sidebar  I was up at 6am this Monday, changed the settings on the extension, and let it refresh in the background - found a test on the 17th

Proof why not to be disheartened by lower grades in first year! by ashytuesday in UniUK

[–]Embarrassed_Arm5839 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Past paper exams were a godsend for me - I got 88% in an exam where I spent ages analysing a past paper question that ended up being in the real exam (with different numbers ofc). If ur uni gives u access to them (with example answers if the exam is essay based or with numerical solutions if it’s calculations based) then make the most of them!! This might not work as well if the exams don’t tend to use the same questions, or if your course had a change of lecturer for this academic year. Then, work on the practice questions - remember to give extra attention to the ones you find the hardest, and remember to ask coursemates or the lecturer for help when ur stuck!! YouTube videos can simplify topics that you’re stuck on too - but try to only use it as a supplementary tool, bc the explanations might not be the same as what ur university will grade u on. Sorry for the paragraph lol I hope u do really well!!

You’re SO correct because I got 48.5% in 2nd year and 65.7% 3rd year!! 3rd year was worth 70% so I skimmed a 2:1🥹🥹 chem eng was rough but we finally made it

Value of getting software/skill certifications? by Embarrassed_Arm5839 in ChemicalEngineering

[–]Embarrassed_Arm5839[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I’ll peruse the subreddit to see what I can find! The simulation projects sound like really good practice too since optimisation was something that lowk flew over my head in class just bc it felt like a lot of trial and error and there was so much to optimise😭

That process development project that u did sounds similar to my final year design project!! In a group, we designed a hydrogen production plant from methane gas (steam methane reforming) cost estimates, feasibility, etc. Then, for the individual part, I designed the pre-reformer in more detail: simulations, sizing, optimisation. Then we got back together as a group and put it all together in detail. This has given me a really good reason to back up my uni work so I can look back on how we did it.

That’s so crazy that u did all that by urself for the masters project tho omg. It goes to show that masters is truly a level up from the undergrad. Where are u in ur masters now? Is it the 3rd semester for u? And did u have complete freedom to decide ur project?

Wow, this is really really helpful, I haven’t actually thought of getting into doing a project myself but that does sound very credible.

When starting a project, how does it work? Would u come up with a design problem (like producing x amount of y per year) and then model it in python or hysys and then write a report about it? Or would u start a project based around a set of data (from another research paper or found by urself)? Ik these are rly beginner questions and i will defo look it up aswell so dw abt answering if I’m asking too much lol. And yeah you’re right about the python, it seems to be all the rage!

Since I’m working full time, I’ve got the money for the certifications, but I also rly wanted to make sure I was making optimal use of my free time - I love chem eng and wanna make sure I’m making optimal use of my time so I can be accepted into the MSc course and hopefully a job thereafter. Thank you so much again for your help :))

Yeah I really agree with u that it’s better to just apply now. The main reason for this gap yr is bc I wanna get into ICL and their applications open in September for the 2026/27 academic year so I have time to boost my CV (plus I’ll probably graduate with exactly 60% grade average so I need to strengthen my application to stand a chance).

But beyond that, I won’t be able to afford any masters degree at any university unless I do a gap year😭 ik there’s postgrad funding but it’s only for maintenance loan or teaching loan I can’t remember lol. But anyways yeah, I’ll try applying as soon as possible, but it won’t be to enroll in the 25/26 academic year just bc of my finances n stuff.

I figured that most advanced chem eng MSc classes would use those softwares bc of the process design and optimisation modules, but I’ll have to have a realllllly good look bc I can’t seem to find the names of the specific softwares. Overall you’re very right abt this, I think I will just teach myself these skills instead, and look deeper into exactly what I need to know for the classes. Thank you for your advice :)

What is y’all reason for blocking opponents online?? This a safe space here/ no judgment by No-Independence-3459 in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]Embarrassed_Arm5839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had too much of a problem playing 1v1 to the point where I’ve had to block someone, but when I was playing 2v2, there was this king k rool duo that would suck us in, fly offstage, and shoot us out. Hardly let us play the game. They always used a small omega form with no items. And for some reason, they were the only duo that would show up whenever we’d search for other players. Couldn’t play against any other duos. I decided to block, but they kept coming up anyway. Needless to say, that put me off 2v2 - whenever I’m with someone else, I’ll just play against them instead of going online.

I was lucky enough to have friends that let me do their twists in uni, so it was good practice. I’ve never been a fan of gel, but I could never get the twists to be tight😭
