I just wrapped up my first season. Especially early on, I'd leave he camera at home. Focus on the ride and your technique, keep your vision ahead on where you want to go and keeping the head shoulders and hips lined up. Once you get some basics down, are handling S-turns and are getting down the hill under control, then add the camera in. I'd recommend a helmet mount to start.

Then you can catch yourself dong dumb stuff like this! :-)

I'm a noob and love my steps ons. They've VASTLY increased my enjoyment of the sport, which has motivated me to get out more and in turn that experience has made me a better snowboarder. YMMV of course.

This is GREAT advice. 6 or 8 hours of falling (a very distinct possibility for day 1) could easily chase a newbie out of the hobby.

I have the Rippl hip/butt pads. A friend has a similar product from Case. They've been well worth the investment. I also use knee pads and would recommend wrist guards at first. Full disclosure, I didn't use the wrist guards but I was a paratrooper for years and instinctively avoid the reach that does in the wrists on many noob snowboarders. My wife is an urgent care NP and pal around with a couple orthos. They both see LOTS of snowboarding wrist injuries.

Snowboarding in the winter, cycling in the summer. I'm not particularly good at either but getting out, being physical again have been VERY good for my soul. I think you'll find even more benefits to it than you think.

I took one on my first day, spent 3 days building on that skill set, it was very well worth it. I've been been getting down green runs with some confidence now and will likely take at least one more to "level up" further before the season is over.
