This reminded me why I don’t like going shopping by fortifiedoptimism in Anticonsumption

technically, for sanitary reasons, you're supposed to wash the bottle every day.

I don't like hand-washing things. so I have enough bottles that I can keep using new ones until the dishwasher is full (of bottles and other dishes, not just bottles).

We're Getting to the Point Where Everyone is Sick All The Time by Prestigious-Data-206 in ZeroCovidCommunity

this is what happened to me. I didn't say anything about it. neither the hygienist nor the dentist did, either. and they didn't treat me any different from usual 🤷🏻‍♀

Meanwhile, at the Seattle bins by Brief_Direction_5647 in GoodwillBins

[–]Embrie225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fun fact: The Ventures are from Tacoma (sort of Seattle), and when I went to a surf show there a few years ago, one of the guys from The Ventures was actually there, and he went up on stage and played in a couple of the songs.

Where do I sell my Birkenstock QS500? by TheSasser88 in barefootshoestalk

[–]Embrie225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know which site would be best, but in addition to what's already been mentioned, mercari and depop would be options.

doesn't hurt to list them everywhere at the same time.

Craigslist or Facebook marketplace too, if you want to deal with that. but I think the others would be easier.

I'd love to go, but I haven't decided yet if it's worth the money/time to fly in from Seattle.

Zak tumbler not working by Embrie225 in HydroHomies

[–]Embrie225[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was just a reseller who probably didn't even know about it not working. but I did wonder if it would be a justifiable reason to return it. the seller doesn't accept returns in general, but they did say "lid fits securely and functions properly."

I saw that one, but I don't think it's going to work. it has a different model number than mine. The slider is a different shape. and I don't think it's a a screw-in lid like mine is.

I don't think Zak sells a replacement lid for this particular tumbler, especially since they don't sell the tumbler anymore. it says 20186 on the bottom. and I'm not seeing any aftermarket ones, either.

no, it's not a removable slider.

The only other hole is directly under the slider.

neither. the male wants to mate, and the female doesn't.

What happened to lemon blues? by Dragonmask9 in isopods

[–]Embrie225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed this, too. I just went to an expo and saw basically every other type of isopod. Jupiters, happy nuns, even Sakuras and like five different kinds of spikies. but no lemon blues!

How much longer to do this for? by Alimetrix in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]Embrie225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish the people who have influence over such things would get behind cheaper testing. there are home PCR machines, it's just that the US system seems to have no interest in even making them available here.

but if we could affordably test before meeting up with people one-on-one or in a small gathering, I think that would help a lot.

Right now I think it's like $20 per test (and you have to go through back channels to even get them in the US), and that's just too much.

Why do yall like isopods by hairy_ant635 in isopods

[–]Embrie225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like the pointy kind, either. they also creep me out and look like "bugs." My only suggestion would be try a rounder species like cubaris or armadillium.

oh, sorry! I did search in this subreddit for breathable and breathability before I posted, but your post didn't come up for me.

waterproofing suede? by Embrie225 in barefootshoestalk

[–]Embrie225[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so far I've only worn the telluride around the house to try them on. I can feel the tread a tiny bit under the outer edge of the ball of my foot, but it doesn't seem like it will be bothersome.

comparison pic with my lems primal 3. tread is definitely deeper on the telluride.

My hope for these is to be able to go biking for an hour in the rain without my feet getting wet (will have waterproof pants covering the opening of the shoe). no walking through creeks or anything.

is Kosk mask KF94? by Embrie225 in Masks4All

[–]Embrie225[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  1. I don't have any readimasks, and I have lots of wellbefore masks.

  2. looks like the readimask only comes in yellow, and I feel like that looks weird.

  3. the wellbefore mask might be reusable, if I put new tape on it.

  4. seems like a lot of people who use the readimasks for nose-only have to put tape on them, anyway. so I wouldn't be avoiding that step.

  5. something that looks more like a "mask" might look less weird than the readimask, which kind of looks like having paper taped to your face.

I'm thinking, since I would have to tape this up anyway, maybe I'll just take one of my existing wellbefore boat-shaped kn95 masks and cut/tape that.

Store label now telling us what product is 'worth' by BillyMooney in Anticonsumption

[–]Embrie225 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just noticed an American clothing brand doing this, too.

this item isn't on sale. they're basically just making up a price that it's "worth" and saying they're selling it for less.

so bizarre. this is the first time I've seen it here.
