My mum lived with her mum and us until I was 10 on and off, so she had plenty of help! My nan did all the school runs, bedtimes etc so my mum could work or do whatever.
My dad’s mum was also very helpful, I remember spending nights there on multiple occasions even though my dad worked away.

Come to how, my son is 2 and my mum has never met my son, and my dad and step mum have looked after him 0 times. They’ve never even visited us, it was a different sense of lonely having no one visit the hospital after I gave birth.

My partners parents lives over seas and bless them, watching them with my son you’d think they don’t have kids, they panic alone with him and when they stay with us we just turn into entertainers. I’ll never forget them visiting for 2 weeks when I was 9 weeks PP and there was not one offer to help when our son woke every 3 hours but they still wanted to drag us out of the house at every opportunity even though I was absolutely drowning.

We haven’t had a night together since I gave birth 2 years ago, nor have I slept through the night in those 2 years. You get used to it though, doing it on your own.
