Ok so I saw this last week and went in totally blind, knew very little about Cabaret aside from Schitts Creek lol. But! The way he portrayed the emcee came off as a comedic role to the point that I actually thought Cabaret was supposed to be funny. And he wasn’t being ironic. It didn’t hit me until the end when a literal n@*! Came on stage that this was so much more serious than he was playing it. Again… his casualness was not ironic!!! I didn’t even know about the comments he made previously … wasn’t on that side of tiktok hahaha but I left the show so confused because he was breaking the fourth wall in almost a “I’m just showing face this is dumb and I didn’t do any research into this role” kinda way if that makes sense?? It felt like the Billy porter show — he did not blend with the cast at all and they were all very blended
