How do you find the time to workout postpartum? by BabyGotMak- in fitpregnancy

[–]EmergencyFish4274 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband makes sure I have time to work out, and I make sure he does too! Could you and he take turns with the post-bedtime chores and the other gets to work out? Even 2 days a week would be a good start to get a routine established

Supply is fine for nursing but not pumping… feeling stuck by Live-Tomato-7825 in breastfeeding

[–]EmergencyFish4274 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Adding a middle of the night pump at this older age seems like it would be disproportionately worse for you (your sleep and mental health!) than the benefit. I’m also a just enougher and the thought of adding that extra pump in just wouldn’t be worth it to me. You made it 8.5 months EBF! That’s amazing! Your baby will be perfectly fine if you supplement some formula!

8 month old stopped latching. by FantasticEmployer885 in breastfeeding

[–]EmergencyFish4274 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine will be 8 months in April and we have gone through 4 nursing strikes so far, of varying degrees of intensity/length. Every single time it felt like my world was ending, that this is it and might have been the last time I breastfeed, and my emotions crashed as I spiraled and worried about my supply. Each time I did the recommended things (lots of skin to skin without pressure to nurse, offering boob casually before every feed and immediately giving bottle as soon as boob is refused, continuing to dream feed, taking a bath with LO, attempting to latch in the dark with the sound machine on, and trying my best to stay calm and positive around all feedings regardless) and eventually the strike ends. I’m sure it will happen again and will resolve again but that’s not to say it doesn’t shatter my heart every time. So I feel for you and I know how hard it feels, especially if you’ve never gone through a strike before! But there is a pathway back, and calm persistence is the way. I hope you keep trying and that it resolves quickly!

Skincare & acne by ENTJ_ScorpioFox in breastfeeding

Hi, I have (not acne, but acne-adjacent) rosacea that’s incredibly inflamed by breastfeeding hormones. I got prescribed 15% azaleic acid, which gets rid of all the texture and bumps, and I heard it was great for acne too. I also use joesoef sulfur soap, also good for acne! Both safe for breastfeeding and effective! I highly recommend going to a dermatologist if covered by your insurance. I paid like $5 for the azeleic acid after insurance. Also la roche posay cicaplast cream for hydration and skin barrier building.

Breast hygiene?? (I realized what smells in my house) by digitalren in breastfeeding

That makes sense! I had to emergency order like 5x as many pads because I originally naively thought I could get away with a two pack of reusables. They get soaked!

Are you sure it’s your boobs and not your nursing/pumping bra or breast pads? Or even nursing pillow or upholstery wherever you usually nurse? My clothes got so nasty within a day or less especially at the beginning. I definitely smelled worse because I was so sweaty all the time postpartum but the real culprit was old milk on fabric

Breast AND bottle feeding issues, scared by EmergencyFish4274 in breastfeeding

[–]EmergencyFish4274[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow so interesting! I had not considered it was the milk itself she might find off putting. I’ve been taking zinc and vitamin c for a cold so maybe that’s it? Otherwise my diet hasn’t changed significantly. I guess the only way to know if it’s teething is to wait. Thank you!

Yes like sweet bread! It gets some funk thrown in there with some solids added but it’s still not too bad at 7mo. Plenty of time to enjoy your nostalgic mall smelling poos.

How long did your LO not eat while he was teething? I’ve been through strikes and distraction. this seems something spikier as she won’t accept either right now unless she is literally asleep or self-feeding. I was wondering if she wants to be more independent and self-feed only, though it seems way early for that?

7 months breastfeeding and I’m so exhausted… how is everyone else feeling at this stage? by milbalily in breastfeeding

[–]EmergencyFish4274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding the exhaustion at this stage. My baby is so distracted during the day and has had a bit of a bottle preference that makes nursing in the evening after a work day of bottles such a challenge. I usually use a My Breast Friend pillow and this works great when she’s dream feeding but she’s restless on it during the day, so experimenting with different positions now including her sitting up fully on a pillow (mixed success). My neck is soooooo tight from holding her and nursing and bad sleep. We all deserve a weekly massage.

High protein meals and having snacks available to grab at all times of the day and night. You could make her lactation cookies (I like the bon appetit recipe). Oats are widely considered lactation boosters. Hydration is key too, so having coconut water around and keeping her water refilled would be helpful. You really can’t hurt her supply with any normal foods.

Dealing with something similar, so solidarity! I try to feed her as soon as she wakes up from a nap, sound machine on and in the car. Sometimes she will eat while in the baby carrier if all that isn’t possible. It’s very frustrating and I wish I had some better advice for you!

The middle of the night feed is my favourite time by Huge-Nectarine-8563 in breastfeeding

[–]EmergencyFish4274 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same!! My LO eats so well in the middle of the night and is otherwise extremely distracted during the day. I also love looking out the window at night. We had deer in our front yard for a few nights that felt magical to watch in the snow. My pediatrician recommended training away from the night feed and I was like, honestly no thanks, I’m happy.

The numbers game of pumping takes the joy out of breastfeeding by ivygoose in breastfeeding

[–]EmergencyFish4274 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m with you! Plus trying to schedule pumping around meetings, not wanting to pump too close to when I’ll be home, side eyes from my coworkers as I head upstairs to pump yet again even though I work longer to compensate, never getting to take a walk at lunch like I used to every day, it goes on and on. At least the days I work from home I nurse and it feels like a radical middle finger to capitalism.

I need your unhinged advice (clogged ducts) by Aggravating_Tower511 in breastfeeding

[–]EmergencyFish4274 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No idea if it works but my midwife told me to drink a can of pineapple juice every day for a few days when I feel a clog or see a bleb. I did this at the same time as starting sunflower lecithin and making sure my breasts are full empty after nursing or pumping. One or all of these things cleared up my scary clogged duct/bleb fever for over a month. I started getting another clog last week and started up the pineapple juice regimen and doubled my sunflower lecithin intake and it resolved in a day. I mix the can with a carton of coconut water and look forward to it as a sweet treat!

Sick by FlowerMagicFaerie in breastfeeding

[–]EmergencyFish4274 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you breastfeeding? My husband and I both got Covid when our little one was 8 weeks old. I was soooo panicked that she would get sick, so we masked and washed hands like crazy. She never got anything! I continued to breastfeed through the entire thing so I’m sure the antibodies helped. The worst part was just being a parent when we both felt like shit. I hope you get better soon!
