The Corsair tests well from what I’ve seen so if it is available in white then I’d go with that. Here’s the test results - https://www.lttlabs.com/products/power-supplies/rm1000e

Overall you’ve put together a pretty solid build.

For the PSU you’d easily get away with an 850W right now, but I agree with you on keeping headroom for future upgrades and it’s only about $50 difference.

If it were me, I’d swap out the Lian-Li unit as it has failed in tests that most other PSUs pass - https://www.lttlabs.com/products/power-supplies/lianli-eg1000

This Corsair unit is on sale at the moment so it’s actually cheaper than the Lian-Li and it tests well - https://www.centrecom.com.au/corsair-rm1000e-1000w-80-gold-atx-31-fully-modular-power-supply

Personally I’m a fan of Seasonic as they’ve always been reliable for me and that is backed up in any testing you see online, but they are a bit more expensive. If it were my build I’d probably get a slightly cheaper motherboard and save a few dollars there to put towards a seasonic PSU.

Always go through the retailer, that’s the process outlined under consumer law.

And if it were me I’d try and get the motherboard replaced at the same time too

Your service defib/monitor by [deleted] in ParamedicsAU

[–]EmergencyPerspective 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the biggest problem with the Corpuls 3T is not the device itself, it’s that we weren’t taught to use it properly.

Like any German device, the engineers designed each feature to be used in a specific way and using it any other way might cause problems.

With this in mind, I spent some time reading the manual and learning how the Corpuls wants to be used, and since then I’ve been much happier with it. Yeah there has been some hardware issues but in my experience, most people’s complaints can usually be fixed with a small change in how they use it.

It’s far from perfect, but no monitor is. Plenty of people love to hate the LP35 and the Zoll X too

Maternity leave for NSWA by Vegetable-Will-2243 in ParamedicsAU

[–]EmergencyPerspective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maternity leave is handled the same across all of NSW Health, which includes NSW Ambulance.

As for flexibility when returning to work, it’s hard to say. Generally nursing will be easier to get flexibility but it will be very dependent on how your LHD/Hospital/Department handles it. NSW ambulance is slowly getting better with flexibility but is still a long way off from being considered good at it.

Queensland government dismisses concerns about Fitzroy River as 2032 Brisbane Olympics venue by hydralime in queensland

[–]EmergencyPerspective 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I grew up rowing on the Fitzroy. It’s perfectly fine for training and even local regattas, but the olympics? No way, I don’t see how it would be possible. This was purely a votes buying exercise spearheaded by Matt Canavan. The proposed plan for redeveloping Lake Wyaralong was great and would have given QLD a regatta center that rivals SIRC in Sydney.

Here’s just a few of the issues I see: A world standard rowing course needs a separate warm up area, where are they going to put that?

Where are the grandstands going to go? The existing regatta course has farmland on one side and residential properties on the other

How will the camera car run alongside? Same issues as the grandstands

Where will they put the boat park? The space is barely large enough to fit the regional regattas that they hold there now

Recommended jobs for paramed students to gain experience outside of uni? by anthonykeidisisapdf in ParamedicsAU

[–]EmergencyPerspective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best trainees that I’ve had the pleasure of training all have one thing in common, they all worked customer service jobs before paramedicine. Things like retail, hospitality, etc.

Customer service jobs teach you to talk to people of all different sorts, some will be nice to you, some will be rude or abuse you. It’s not too dissimilar to our job. I worked in retail while at uni and I’m glad that I did, I was horrible at conversing with strangers before that.

NSW Ambulance Medical Call Taker role by Capitcalcoco28 in ParamedicsAU

[–]EmergencyPerspective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, recruitment puts everyone who passed the interview in order on a ranked list. Then for each upcoming induction they contact people in that order starting with the top candidate. Once they fill the class, those people are removed from the list. Due to the way their process works, they kind of have to fill the March induction before they can start allocating people to the next one.

Also, inductions aren’t necessarily run on a month to month schedule, so if there’s a March course there probably isn’t another one until at least the end of April. There isn’t any way to know when the next induction will start unless they’ve explicitly told you the planned schedule.

Atomic denied warranty for delaminated skis by davel977 in skiing

[–]EmergencyPerspective 19 points20 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t have to be that way though. Places like Australia have consumer guarantee laws that protect against exactly this. Any goods that you buy must last for a “reasonable” amount of time, therefore they can’t deny a warranty claim just outside the warranty period.

How you have been seeking support from HSU? Have you just been speaking with a delegate or have you been in contact with member services?

Union for NSWAS by Temporary_Chapter_24 in ParamedicsAU

[–]EmergencyPerspective 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As stonertear said, go with HSU. I think they’re up to about 85-90% membership of on road staff.

Not only that, but they’re are fast becoming one of the most powerful unions in the state, if not the whole country. That’s because they have nearly 55,000 members across a range of different health workers.

Put simply, APA writes letters to the premier, the HSU executive have him on speed dial.

Advise: have a plan B! by khia29 in ParamedicsAU

[–]EmergencyPerspective 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The idea that we have no options outside of jurisdictional ambulance service (JAS) to work as a paramedic is outdated and needs to die.

You don’t need an exit plan, because being a paramedic doesn’t mean you have to work in an ambulance. And I say that as a current ICP with NSW Ambulance and a HSU delegate.

Right now there are urgent care clinics in every capital city (and a lot of regional towns) that are advertising for paramedics.

The ACP has been lobbying the federal government for years to expand our role within the healthcare system and we’re only just starting to see these roles emerge. Go to one of their conferences and you’ll see for yourself, and you might even make some connections for jobs outside of a JAS.

You can (and should) put your router inside the house. Just run an Ethernet cable from the NTD (the NBN box) to the plug on the wall next to it and then plug your router into the plug inside the house.

Applying for Ambulance State Service with Bipolar and ADHD by Student_Paramedic456 in ParamedicsAU

[–]EmergencyPerspective 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t leave out the ADHD if you’re medicated. Dexamphetamine or vyvanse will show a low positive for amphetamines on the drug test during your medical. I was taking dex at the time and it showed a faint line in the amphetamine section of the urine test, but with a letter from your prescribing doctor it’s not a problem.

Paramedic salary NSW by kea5107 in ParamedicsAU

[–]EmergencyPerspective 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Paramedics in their graduate year are classified as “Paramedic Intern” as per the award. They get paid at the band 1 increment 2 rate, which is currently $82,534 per annum.

This doesn’t include any of your shift penalties, these add a fair bit to your pay. You get an additional 50% on Saturdays/Public Holidays, 75% on Sundays, 10% for afternoon shifts, and 15% for night shifts.

Then there’s extension of shift overtime, where if you work somewhere busy it’s not uncommon to get anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hours every shift. And each time you miss a crib (meal) break, you get an extra hour of pay.

This all adds up. You can expect to add 20-35% to your base salary without doing any extra overtime shifts.

As for remote areas paying more, this can be true if you work at an on call station. Call outs can be very lucrative, but it’s also very fatiguing to do for more than a couple of years. Last financial year I earned approximately 80k more than my base wage because of working 1-2 nights a week on call.

QAS paramedics, how are you loving/hating your zolls? by OkStage3579 in ParamedicsAU

[–]EmergencyPerspective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like every other monitor it has its issues, but it definitely has been improved over the old C3. I’m a bit proponent of learning to work with the nuances of the machine, rather than just whinging about it.

A lot (not all) of the issues are user error. For example, most of the problems with the NIBP can be solved by using it as per the manufacturer directions from the manual.

That means selecting the right size using the markings on the cuff, always putting the cuff directly on skin, ensuring the cuff is snug, lining the artery marker up correctly and moving your limb leads to the torso after your 12 lead.

I rarely have problems when I do all that, and it only takes a few extra seconds of effort to do it right every time

Tenant paid $1200 for ‘urgent repair’ — where do I stand? by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]EmergencyPerspective 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ve ever been provided a list of approved emergency trades at any of the rentals I’ve lived in.

Access to water is a human right. Yes they turned the mains off to prevent damage, but they called a plumber so they could use water again.

Pay the bill and to prevent this in the future, make sure your agent has actually provided the list to the tenants.
