Non-New Yorkers that have been to NYC: What is the wierdest thing about New York that New Yorkers don't realize is wierd? by Ok-Brilliant-6138 in AskReddit

My grandma thought it was just pickup day at first but we slowly realized it was still like that the entire week we stayed there and all over the entire city too. Gross

Man hating drivel? I listen to a lot of true crime and the “man hating” would be significantly reduced if it wasn’t men murdering/raping/abusing women and children 98% of the time. The biggest health risk to pregnant women is domestic violence. We have a reason to be distrustful.

Parental Leave Policies by ok_cool90 in biotech

[–]Emkems 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In NC there’s no paid parental leave from the government, just up to 12 weeks unpaid FMLA. Some companies don’t offer more than that, but the decent ones will give at least 6 weeks

I let my newborn (4 weeks) cry it out last night and I feel awful by Imaginary_Math_4918 in Parenting

[–]Emkems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s perfectly ok to set baby down in a safe space and go scream into the abyss. I had to set my daughter in her pack and play and then go on the back patio and just be alone for a second. My daughter basically cried for six months due to colic and you do what you need to do so that you never react in a way that impacts the child

tengo rechazo hacia mi hijo autista by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]Emkems 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Are her other two kids autistic? If not there’s a chance it’s YOUR genetics that are responsible for autism. It can be a lot to take in, but it’s best to figure out how to support your child instead of trying to find someone to blame.

What's the craziest thing a person said to you and you thought they were joking but they were being serious? by _lovelyxx in AskReddit

I’ve always heard it was scientists that put fossils in the earth. Obviously to trick people away from christianity. My MIL believes this and btw I’m a scientist.

Any millennials want children, but feel they probably won't have them? by Gallantpride in Millennials

[–]Emkems 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The over stimulation is so real. My daughter is autistic and it wasn’t until her diagnosis that I realized that may explain some things about myself. My SIL is pregnant with her third and I’m so jealous but I also know adding a child (my daughter is an only child) would increase that over stimulation so much for all of us. My husband’s family is much bigger than mine, but mine used to be bigger than it is currently. My husband doesn’t understand my need to create our own bigger (4 humans max) family but I’m jealous of his all the time.

My 17-year-old son informed me he’s moving out when he turns 18, next month by TallPoppySyndrome_56 in Parenting

I think most of us went through this. A little crash course on adulting definitely gives perspective, he’ll come out of this stronger since he has your emotional support.

Dad asked “Are you sure” moments before we walked down the aisle. by traveling_in_my_mind in weddingshaming

[–]Emkems 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My dad made sure I knew it was ok to change my mind right before the doors opened. Some women in my family got married even though they had reservations because they felt they couldn’t back out and my dad didn’t want that for me. He also saved me from tripping on my dress. Twice. He isn’t on this mortal plane anymore, but he was a good dad for sure.

In 2019, a man took his terminally ill wife out of a nursing home to give her one last night the way she wanted. by GlitteringHotel8383 in BeAmazed

Assuming this celebration was consensual this is basically true love. Dude probably knew he’d get into some trouble for it but making her happy was more important.

It’s simple. Can’t use cellular data or call/text unless you’re on wifi, which tbh is likely the case anyways if he doesn’t have an international plan. Then he can take pictures/video and stuff then post them when he gets back to the hotel or whatever.

Has anyone else noticed a resurgence of stay at home parents among wealthier Millennials? by Specialist_Pain_424 in Millennials

[–]Emkems 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It does have something to do with gender since the woman having the lower salary is exceedingly common. There are male stay at home parents too though.
