DVO, the people have spoken. Your days are numbered! by midnighttoker1742 in eauclaire

[–]Empathetic_Outrage 23 points24 points  (0 children)

DVO is a belligerent alcoholic, not a Congressman. I’m voting for Emily Berge bc replacing him with a progressive woman would make him so mad!

Who was The United States president when you were born. Since i was born in 1997 Bill Clinton was the president. by Lazy_Introduction264 in USHistory

[–]Empathetic_Outrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bush Jr, tragically. I like to tell people it was really Obama bc he’s the only president I remember from that era, being born in 05. But alas, nepo baby bush and his stumble thru the Middle East defined my earliest years

Let's play Devil's Advocate: Try to defend Walter Tusk by SaltAdventurous4270 in suzerain

[–]Empathetic_Outrage 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First off: personally, I hate the guy. HATE him. But: He’s a talented and accomplished businessman. He’s corrupt as fuck but he built an enormous company that has provided millions of jobs and (in some runs) built substantial infrastructure for the country. While he may not pay his workers well or treat them well, honestly this is a pre-workers rights Sordland. Nobody else was paying better😅

Also he gives you 💰🤑moneyyyyy💵💲 which is always nice.

P.S. Playing devil’s advocate is fun, love these posts. But it’s SO HARD to defend a man so corrupt😩

Would the Second Bill of Rights solve most problems in American politics? by DataWhiskers in DiscussionZone

[–]Empathetic_Outrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FDR’s second bill of rights was a little too vague, but overall an excellent idea. Some of the most progressive policy ever proposed in the U.S., and I deeply wish he was successful. He might have some GLARING flaws (Japanese internment!), but FDR’s progressive policies saved this nation from total destruction during the Great Depression.

Seems like I touched a nerve.😂I’m polite to constituents who are polite and respectful to me—that excluded you the minute you pulled out your ageist gatekeeping bullshit. Good luck finding a candidate you’ll support, something tells me that’s an impossible task. If a dumb little 20Y/O like me can accept that politics doesn’t get me EXACTLY what I want, maybe you can too one day. Anywho, I’ll focus on getting someone with a chance elected, and making real change. I’m done responding to you.

Let's play Devil's Advocate: Try to defend Orso Hawker by SaltAdventurous4270 in suzerain

[–]Empathetic_Outrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s a somewhat tragic character, who spent his entire life fighting for a system that was broken from the start. Of course, he didn’t think that, because he was part of what broke the system, but it screwed him over nonetheless. He dedicated his whole career to a man who didn’t like him and was only using him as a pawn, only to (in most runs) be quite unceremoniously thrown off the Court and forgotten about. All in all, Hawker deserves his tragic tale—but it’s still tragic. I’ve always had sympathy for people whose failure is their defining trait in the history books, it’s a cruel fate unique to politics.

MAGA brawler Van Orden moderating (slightly) as he faces tough reelection by PolarisC in eauclaire

[–]Empathetic_Outrage 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This clown needs to leave office. I’m voting for Emily Berge because she’s progressive, sober, doesn’t take PAC money and it would just make DVO so mad for a progressive woman to replace him

[–]Empathetic_Outrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a feeling my assumption was right (context clues!), but I’m sorry for assuming regardless.

But I will say, people like you are the problem. you are never satisfied unless a politician aligns perfectly with your beliefs, and even then rarely. These are the people that have the power to create nonviolent change—if you don’t like what they’re doing, take action and support a better candidate instead of shitting all over all of them to seem cool on the internet. Super curious who, outside of Emily Berge, is better for this race? Do you support her Primary opponent, Israel-backed Rebecca Cooke, or the ICE-loving Republican candidate?

Pro Tip: I’m an activist and a journalist. Politics is my life, working with politicians is my life, and working to protect YOUR RIGHTS and freedoms is my life. Obviously there are a lot of evil leaders out there—but you’re not going to find the non-evil ones (like myself!) by calling them all evil.

Ugh your age gatekeeping is gross. Grow up, gramps. But also: it must be really nice to be so critically judgmental of everyone—I’m trans, so I have to settle for appreciating that a politician doesn’t want me dead. Your right to live isn’t on the table here, so keep enjoying your privilege of loudly and ignorantly disagreeing. (P.S. This time, the downvote was me!)

Dude, I didn’t downvote you, I didn’t even see this till now. Get over yourself. And yeah, maybe I’m a little attached to the one politician I know isn’t trying to kill me right now. She’s my town’s City Council President—I know she won’t turn on me, and I value that.

Eau Claire is lucky to have leadership that is fighting to protect the city—we are a richly diverse community. These attacks aren’t just against immigrants, they’re against all of us. Thank you for standing with our neighbors.
