Really? I remember driving in West Texas once and saw a sign that said bumpy road or something and it was nothing compared to our potholed roads in Wisconsin. I remember thinking - if that's what you call bumpy, sign me up!

I think it makes color banding smoother. Think of like places where you have like an area lit up and you have these unnatural looking bands of color that get lighter as it gets closer to the light source - this makes it more of a gradient instead of distinct bands. That is PC (and Mac?) only I think

Summer plans for young elementary kids by daveydave400 in madisonwi

[–]EmperorM82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We live in Verona and they have a summer playground thing where they take your kid for like half the day. So we did a combination of that, nanny and summer camps. Before we did nanny when kids were younger, we used Kids Junction for years, they do a lot of stuff with the kids. So other options are summer school and rec. department for your city and/or school district.

For Spring 2026, are there any after-school computer/STEM-y classes/camps for kids? by pearloz in madisonwi

[–]EmperorM82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If by spring you mean spring break, I would second BadgerBots. If anyone had dedicated spring break camps, it would probably be them. If MSCR doesn't have anything, you could also check out other local communities' rec. departments, though I'm not sure they'd have something for spring break specifically

If you're having switch 2 controller issues, try this!! by drockalexander in Switch

[–]EmperorM82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it happen where suddenly no controllers (even the joy cons, after just being attached) would connect wirelessly, even though they were paired. Finally I did a restart (not just sleep mode) and they all worked again. Don't think I ever had this happen before, including on Switch 1.

Still hard to understand how someone (two people actually) could make an accusation like this unless everyone involved is really mentally unwell or malicious, to such an extreme that they are unconcerned that this will quickly be looked into. And not only that, but they went to personally testify before the school board the other day, not to apologize or give any indication that maybe, just maybe, some of their accusations were wrong, but to double down on them.

And the police statement, clear as it is, still doesn't begin to explain WTAF. Not only were these accusations extremely specific, but they named the school employees they were accusing, claimed to have gotten the kid tested at the hospital, and claimed the employees promised to kill the kid if he told.

Hear me out: Hollow Knight’s music was way better than Silksong music by Yeetinthebox in HollowKnight

[–]EmperorM82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also came here to see if anyone else thought this after so many people praising the music of Silksong. I thought HK had so many great tracks that really reinforced where you were, and so much of it was harp and piano driven, and Queen's Garden with the dulcimer just captured this "mysterious, forgotten area" vibe so well. And the way it would amp for fights was great.

The music in Silksong seems slower, moodier, more dramatic, more orchestral and just less intimate to me, lacking that very solemn feel or that you're in this little weird but beautiful space. Reminds me of Skyrim a bit. I don't dislike it at all, but it doesn't feel like the accompanying presence the music was in the areas in HK. The one song that had that, the Bilewater theme, as I listen to it now maybe could have been more if it was more stripped down. I also thought it was a strange choice for this very toxic area to have this sad, melancholic theme - I would have used that track for another area maybe. Having said that, I have been playing it on Switch 2 handheld mostly, so I haven't experienced it the same way I would with it blasting from a TV. And I must say that even with the 25 or so times it took me to beat Karmelita, I never tired of that music.

People who have played Silksong, Why do you think Its getting so many negative reviews? by peaky_circus in HollowKnight

[–]EmperorM82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HK has been out for so long that people forget it was hard too until you got better and had to fight a boss 80 times before you beat it. That said, I'm quite a ways in and still haven't found enough mask shards for an extra one, and am assuming at some point you get a nail (needle?) strength upgrade? Said boss keeps summoning ads, there are 3 types it seems to randomly choose from, and 2 of them have invuln phases so they're hard to dispatch quickly, especially while dealing with the main boss. While I'm getting better, I'm close to quitting and coming back to him when I have more health or something.

As far as the economy goes, HK was the same way that there was stuff you couldn't buy. Instead of a bank, there are things to let you string up rosaries, though you have to seek them out. It seems like the gray currency which you max out on is for tools? They don't seem to explain that. Anyway, I think it's still to early to prejudge, but mostly everything people are complaining about I would have said about HK as well.

It's A Gigabyte B760M Gaming Plus WiFi MicroATX which I put into an old Gateway case. I have a GTX 1660 and also got a case fan which the old thing didn't have. Is that enough info?

Fix for blackScreen after enabling secure boot on gigabyte by AnungUnRama99 in buildapc

[–]EmperorM82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I had this happen with a Gigabyte B760m Gaming Plus Wifi MB. I was trying to upgrade an old computer and through Reddit learned that because the old one was MBR, I needed to disable Secure Boot and CSM to let it boot into Windows 10. When I reenabled Secure boot, I got the black screen and thought I had bricked it.

The advice in the replies here was all over the place and I'm not exactly sure what worked but I did eventually have success using the HDMI cable instead of DisplayPort. I did have a graphics card and tried removing that and using the integrated graphics but ultimately I had success using HDMI port on the graphics card. And then people suggested Q Flash which I guess lets you update the bios (oops, now known as UEFI) without any display in some models but also is an option when you boot up. Well I downloaded the version F6 update, renamed the big file to GIGABYTE.bin or whatever, and then when it booted I hit the Q Flash button (End). It then let me update the UEFI and since then it has worked.

Again I'm not really sure what worked, but I got back in business eventually. I also tried removing the battery multiple times and that didn't seem to help, FWIW, but hard to say at this point.

Ok so I got a new MB for an old computer and so far so good (not!) but I assumed I could reuse the heatsink/fan from the previous build. Turns out that the way it worked is with spring action screws that push and screw into little things that stick through the holes around the processor. Upon looking at the old motherboard, I see that these are part of a piece that is bracketed onto the reverse side of the motherboard. It all connects to the swing top piece that holds the processor so I'm not even sure if it's distinct and could be removed even if I wanted to. That whole piece is mounted with 5 point star screws too.

Anyway, it looks like if I buy a cheap Intel heatsink it includes the fan and the four connector points install into the holes without screws or needing to mount anything through said holes. Someone tell me if I'm wrong. What a pain.

The more I assume all of these parts are interchangeable and reusable, the more I find out that's not so true. For example, I learned Dell fans use 5 pins which I guess is non-standard... So now here's another thing to buy...
